The computer freezes and freezes. Computer freezes

The computer freezes and freezes. Computer freezes

13.11.2022

There are situations when the computer freezes completely. The operating system does not respond to commands. There are difficulties when opening the task manager. Of course, data happens quite rarely. This is influenced by several factors, which will be discussed in the article.

Viruses

The most common reason why a computer freezes is the presence of viruses in the system. They usually know how to camouflage themselves well. Viruses pose an open threat to system security and also significantly load computer resources. This causes the device to freeze. To solve this problem, it is enough to install some kind of anti-virus program. If such a utility already exists, you need to update its databases to more current ones and run a full scan of your computer.

If this does not help, you should go to the “Task Manager” and check the processes for suspicious objects. You can also look into startup by entering the name of the utility “msconfig” in the “Run” window. If the system freezes immediately after startup, it is recommended to install a new software. In this situation, use any antivirus distribution that can create bootable USB flash drive or CD.

Overheat

Often the cause of a computer freezing is overheating. As you know, new device models are constantly being released, each of which is more sophisticated than the previous one. Of course, new models require more power, which leads to increased heat generation. For a certain period of time, the cooling system copes with its task quite well. Then its effectiveness decreases. Thus, the computer freezes completely.

As the radiators are used, dust gets clogged and interferes with air circulation. It settles on the cooler, slowing down the speed of the propeller. Not so long ago, such problems could lead to the device failing. Today this disaster can be avoided. Modern computers make it possible to exchange information with motherboard, which controls the temperature.

When its values reach a peak, the controller first tries to unscrew the cooler screw. If this does not help, the system slows down, which is facilitated by a decrease in voltage. Then the computer may freeze completely.

The cooling system should be periodically purged system unit using compressed air or a vacuum cleaner;
It is necessary to regularly check the operation of coolers, for which there are many special programs;
Thermal paste needs to be replaced periodically, as it tends to dry out;
The dust filters on the common fan need to be cleaned.

Often these problems lead to the computer freezing in games or various applications. In order to check how hot the computer components are, you should download any of the programs that are freely available on the Internet.

RAM problems

RAM is an important element of a computer. Its work is directly related to the performance of the device. The stability of RAM depends on whether it is compatible with the motherboard, BIOS, and other installed sticks. Even the slightest glitch can cause your computer to freeze. When there is a need to replace RAM, you should carefully study its characteristics, visit the website of its manufacturer and the motherboard manufacturer.

It is also recommended to familiarize yourself with the speeds that are supported, the results of testing, and compatibility with other devices. It is also advisable to check. To do this, go to “Start”, type in search bar"memory checker". As a result, all errors will be displayed on the screen if they were noticed. In this case RAM requires replacement.

Unstable HDD operation

A hard drive is a device on which absolutely any information is stored. This can be either user or system data. Thus, the operating system constantly accesses the hard drive. As a result, reading and writing data does not stop for a second. This means that system performance is related to the speed of the device.

Over time, “broken” clusters appear on it, as well as unreadable areas. They are the reasons for computer failure. Very often, the device freezes on the Internet, since during surfing the browser continuously records and deletes all kinds of small files.

Repairing a broken HDD

If the HDD is worn out, you need to check it special programs. They will be able to search for bad sectors and mark them as non-working. Thus, the operating system stops using “bads” and stops freezing. To start checking, you should run command line. To do this, enter the name of the utility in the “Run” window – “cmd”.

Here you will need to run the command “chkdsk [drive letter]: /f /r” for each partition. As you know, experienced users can easily determine the status of the HDD literally by the sound of its operation. When clicks or whistles appear, it becomes clear that the equipment is faulty. It is worth realizing that recovering data from damaged hard drive hard enough. If the computer freezes immediately after starting, there is a high probability that the media has worn out.

Incorrect BIOS setting

The cause of the device freezing may also be incorrect setting BIOS. Of course, in this case it is better to seek help from professionals. It seems that there is no point in trying to correct the situation for the average user. However, calling a specialist is not always possible. It is worth noting that even a beginner can perform such an operation if he approaches the issue with full responsibility. You need to carefully study all the information about your own computer.

It is especially worth familiarizing yourself with the characteristics of the motherboard. As a rule, this data can be easily found on the manufacturer's official website. You should find out which parameters are of particular importance, as well as what they are responsible for. While working with the program, you do not need to change many parameters at the same time. It is recommended to first change a few values, reboot, and then check the operation of the computer.

Next, you should continue editing. It is worth mentioning separately the item that exists in every BIOS - “Load Fail-Safe Defaults”. Thanks to it, you can bring all parameters to optimal. On the official website of the motherboard developer, it is suggested to download and install a new version of the BIOS into your computer. You should not refuse this procedure. As a rule, updates correct critical errors and improve stability. Possibly after installation new version the computer will stop freezing. Before performing this procedure, you must study the instructions.

Windows Services

The operating system is filled with a large number of services that work almost without interruption. They can be enabled by default or added at runtime. The system is able to function normally without many of them. When one of the services does not respond or takes up a lot of CPU time, the computer may freeze. In order to see which of them exist in the system and which are active, you need to open the administration window. You need to go to the Start menu, click Control Panel, then click Administrative Tools. After this, you should double-click on the “Services” shortcut.

To obtain comprehensive information about a specific service, you need to double-click on its name. First you should pay attention to those that differ automatic start. The download option can be seen in the “Startup Type” column. There is a single editing rule. It lies in the fact that if the description is not clear, it is not recommended to disable the component. It is better to find out the details of his work on the Internet. You should try to check the stability of the system after the next manipulation.

Using Task Manager to Solve Problems

You can easily view the list of running processes in the task manager window. You must press the key combination “CTRL+ALT+DEL” on your keyboard. If you are sure that a certain program is useless but takes up a lot of CPU time, you can terminate it. To do this, you need to press “DEL” on the keyboard or call context menu.

In addition, from here you can make a transition to get to the utility storage location. This is very useful when the user does not understand exactly what he is interrupting. It is worth noting that checking processes is not necessarily the best solution, but this process often helps if the computer freezes.

Some programs are capable of loading the processor completely, and in the most active phases of their work. But a frozen program will not stop using the maximum number of resources. The utility that works without failures will enter passive mode after a certain time. You should also not complete the process called “System inactivity”.

When a computer freezes, it is sometimes quite difficult to find the cause. For permission this kind Trouble may take quite a long time.

After the first such incident, you need to be wary and constantly monitor. It may be possible to establish some connection between some events and the “glitch”. Especially if the PC does not respond to anything.

Causes

There are a very large number of reasons why a PC periodically freezes. Often this is where the whole difficulty of finding the cause of a given event lies. Since there are many options why your home PC stopped working normally.

The most common malfunctions associated with this kind of trouble include:

Problem of the 21st century – viruses

Despite constantly updated anti-virus databases, as well as powerful firewalls, various types of malicious programs very often penetrate a PC equipped with an operating system. Windows system.

Because hackers and just hooligans are designing new Trojans and viruses every day. The presence of such applications in the operating system quite often leads to freezes and glitches.

CPU overheating

It often happens that the processor warms up to an abnormally high temperature. In this case, the PC usually reboots on its own - this is a kind of protection against overheating, it is configured in the BIOS. But it often happens that for some reason it is disabled and does not work. It is in this case that the PC freezes.

BIOS Settings

BIOS is a simple configuration tool, but you need to work with it extremely carefully. Entering incorrect parameters can lead to unpleasant consequences: equipment breakdown, “glitches” and a variety of other troubles.

That is why, if it is necessary to make any changes to it, it is advisable to first consult with a specialist. There is a high probability of PC failure.

Incompatibility of the controller with the type of hard drive

Many users assemble their computer themselves. And this is not always good. Since it is necessary to have certain knowledge about some components. Some of them may simply be incompatible with each other, and therefore there is a high probability of various types of problems occurring. Because of this, the car may simply “freeze.”

Windows Services

Operating system services greatly influence the process of PC operation. It is always necessary to carefully monitor which of them are currently active. Disabling any vital ones will result in the OS crashing. You should not take any rash actions with services running by default. This will lead to negative consequences.

Presence of uncontrolled processes

Often, all kinds of programs installed on the operating system launch various processes. Moreover, they begin to conduct some kind of independent activity and its products sometimes affect their work extremely negatively. This often happens during installation. Kaspersky antivirus or other similar applications. You need to monitor them as closely as possible.

Disk fragmentation

Hard drives that store large files that are subsequently deleted or copied or moved are usually highly fragmented. This leads to a significant drop in the machine’s performance, as well as constant freezing. Dealing with this phenomenon is quite simple; you only need to periodically diagnose the HDD.

Problems with OP

Random access memory (RAM) is one of the most important components personal computer. If any malfunctions associated with it occur, there is a high probability of freezing. This may be a consequence of incompatibility between the motherboard and the OP itself; this often happens. It also happens that the bar is simply not inserted tightly enough into the slot.

Small volume of drive C

Sometimes a lot of information is stored on a harddisk: users sometimes fill their HDD to capacity. But you should remember that normal PC operation is possible only if there is about 10% free space. Because otherwise, the data processing process may slow down or even stop altogether, and the machine will freeze.

Software glitch

The market for various programs is currently oversaturated with the most different applications. They often contain various errors that lead to software failures. This is one of the most common causes of all kinds of PC hangs.

Scanning the system with an antivirus

Very often, the cause of glitches on a PC is viruses. But it is no less rare that malfunctions occur precisely because of antiviruses. Many such utilities are quite complex software packages. This is what can cause the operating system to malfunction. Scanning often results in freezing.

Programs in Autorun

IN operating system Windows has a special partition that contains applications and utilities that run in automatic mode. Sometimes programs located there cause errors in the operation of the PC. You should carefully monitor the items present there.

A few recommendations on what to do to prevent your computer from freezing

The question is often asked: what should you do to keep your PC in good condition? You just need to follow some of the recommendations outlined below.

Restart your computer

Very often the problem can be fixed quite simply - you just need to restart your car. Moreover, this operation helps in most cases if there are no serious problems with the hardware.

You can use this method if:

Disable unnecessary programs

Often you can deal with the problem by simply turning off some unnecessary applications. This can be done through the Windows Task Manager.

This requires:

Afterwards it is advisable to perform a restart.

Check for viruses

Very often, for some reason, many users do not use antiviruses. Having these applications in most cases resolves problems with Restart.

The most functional and powerful today are the following software systems:

Moreover, the use of many antiviruses is free. Their operation and installation require a minimum amount of resources. Removing various types of malicious codes, viruses, and Trojans not only gets rid of glitches, but also speeds up its operation.

Clean off dust

Often the machine begins to freeze if the heating temperature of individual parts of it components reaches critical values. This phenomenon especially often occurs with the central processor.

In most cases, resolving this kind of situation is quite simple - you just need to clean the insides of dust. It happens that overheating occurs due to dried thermal paste - just replace it.

Faulty device

All sorts of problems also occur due to hardware failure. Most often this concerns the following main components:

  • hard drive;
  • random access memory;
  • motherboard.

Power supplies, video cards and other components fail a little less often.

Defragment your disk

Highly fragmented areas negatively impact PC performance. This is why it is necessary to periodically perform the defragmentation process.

To do this, you can use both utilities from third-party manufacturers and standard program– it is launched as follows:

Obsolete components

It is very important to upgrade your car in a timely manner. Because operating systems are becoming more and more demanding every day.

If you have problems, you should pay special attention to the following parameters of your PC:

  • RAM size;
  • CPU frequency;
  • hard drive speed;
  • video card performance.

It is advisable to update the car at least once a year. It is necessary to eliminate its weak points - this is the key to stable functioning.

Incompatibility of programs and drivers

Often, all sorts of “brakes” arise due to the banal incompatibility of various utilities and drivers. Coping with this kind of trouble is quite problematic.

The only way out is to constantly monitor newly installed system elements and remove unwanted ones.

Clean the system

Another opportunity to deal with system freezes can be cleaning using specialized utilities.

The most popular today are the following:

Reinstall the OS

Sometimes even complete cleaning, disk defragmentation, as well as other similar “curing” operations do not prevent the occurrence of “glitches”. Checking the hardware also does not give any results. In this case, the only optimal way out is a new installation of the operating system. It might also be worth changing the version.

In order not to deal with the consequences of various kinds of problems, you should simply follow certain procedures to prevent them.

A user monitoring the state of his computer must:

Following all the above tips makes it possible to get rid of many problems associated with your PC. This will greatly simplify your life and work. simple user. What should you do if your computer continues to freeze? In such a situation, it is best to contact a specialist.

The key to normal operation of a home computer is its timely maintenance and periodic cleaning: both hardware (from dust) and software (from viruses and errors).

Why does my computer freeze? There are many reasons that cause this problem. Any equipment can fail, which can cause temporary or permanent freezes. The software part cannot be excluded - it can also greatly reduce system performance until the computer freezes completely. That's why this problem requires detailed analysis. Let's try to figure out why the computer freezes and what to do about it.

Viruses and Trojans

Viruses and Trojans not only pose a threat to data security, but also heavily load the computer, which may well lead to a complete system stop - freezing. If the system does not have an antivirus with an updated database, then it is impossible to guarantee its cleanliness.

In this case, you will need to install an antivirus program and perform a full system scan. Often in advanced cases it is possible to detect several thousand malware, including Trojans and infected files. After removing them, then curing them, or sending them to quarantine (usually antiviruses offer a choice), the computer literally comes to life.

Startup programs

If the user has installed many programs in startup, then the antivirus will not be able to help, because these programs may not be viruses. However, they also put a lot of stress on the system. Most users have Skype, uTorrent, some instant messengers, etc. in their startup, etc. If the torrent client is in startup, and the computer is constantly connected to the Internet, then you should not be surprised by freezes. This program is designed to distribute previously downloaded files. That is, users can download a movie from your computer that, for example, you downloaded via torrent a week ago. Of course, the constant distribution of files can lead to system freezes due to excessive load on the processor and HDD.

First of all, you need to look at what programs are loaded with the operating system. In the settings there is definitely an option to disable booting with Windows. It must be used. Of course, there is a small chance that this will help solve the problem, but in combination with virus removal, this method can be effective.

So, viruses, startup programs and even a dirty registry can be the reasons why the computer freezes. And if everything is very neglected, then in some cases it is appropriate to simply reinstall the operating system rather than try to “cure” it. This will make it easier and more efficient.

Of course, a problem with the operating system is not the only reason why your computer may freeze. Sometimes this happens due to a hardware failure.

Banal incompatibility of programs

It happens that the system works stably, but when you launch some program, the computer freezes and does not respond. Why is this happening? The reason may be due to program incompatibility. If it was originally created for another operating system, for example, for Windows XP, then when running it on Windows 10, a failure may occur, which manifests itself in the form of a system freeze. Nothing wrong with that. You just need to restart your computer and remove this program.

CPU overheating

Processors process a huge amount of information, and at the same time a large amount of heat is generated. That is why a radiator is installed on it, and then a cooler, which removes heat from it. Some chips are so powerful that conventional fans cannot cope, and then water cooling is implemented.

An ineffective cooling system is the reason why your computer freezes, but it can also cause the system to work intermittently or have weak system brakes.

However, modern motherboards monitor the processor temperature (reports about this are always available in the BIOS). Here's why your Windows computer freezes due to overheating:

  1. A lot of dust has accumulated on the processor heatsink, which is why the efficiency of heat dissipation is greatly reduced.
  2. The cooler stopped spinning altogether. This may be caused by an open circuit in the voltage supply.
  3. The bearing has worn out, causing the fan to rotate unevenly, causing air flow to be disrupted. This is extremely rare, and a strange and uncharacteristic noise will definitely come from the system unit.

Note that the processor itself is quite serviceable, the only problem is with its cooling. First of all, you need to clean the radiator from dust. To do this, you need to very carefully clean out the dust between the radiator fins with a brush. In some cases, you can use a vacuum cleaner. If all else fails, then you can try replacing the thermal paste, which is responsible for the efficiency of heat transfer from the processor to the heatsink. It cannot be ruled out that this could be the problem.

If there is no more dust, new thermal paste has been installed, the cooler is spinning normally, but the PC still freezes, then the problem most likely does not lie with the processor. Let's further understand why a Windows computer freezes.

RAM

If the system uses several sticks of RAM and at least one of them turns out to be non-working, the computer will constantly freeze. In this case, after rebooting the PC will work for some time, but soon it will start to slow down again. Sometimes the computer freezes when turned on. Why is this happening? Yes, everything is banally simple: some memory cells may not work, and when the system tries to use them, it fails, and then the computer freezes.

It is very easy to identify the problem if several brackets are installed on the motherboard at once. It is enough to take out one of them and watch the computer work. If all is well for two to three hours, then the problem was clearly with the stick of RAM you removed. If the freezing does not stop, then you can try to get the second bar and put the first one back.

By the way, if the problem is in the RAM, then after the system freezes, users can often see the so-called blue screen of death for several seconds. During this time, you can have time to see lines on the screen that may end with the words physical memory. If this is the case, then with a 90% probability the problem lies in one of the strips (or in two at once). They may overheat, suffer physical damage, or simply not fit tightly onto the motherboard.

What to do in this case?

The simplest thing is to take out both RAM sticks, wipe their contacts with alcohol (degrease them) and insert them back. If there was a weak contact, this will solve the problem. If not, then the freezes will continue (most likely). Alternatively, you can test the RAM for errors. There are special free programs Memtest or Memtest86. After quick installation and startup, they check the RAM strips, and if errors are detected, they show the corresponding messages in the form of red lines. You can see what they look like in the example below.

Such errors indicate defects in the RAM modules. If they exist, they are not even repaired. The devices are simply thrown into the trash and new ones are installed. However, if they are under warranty, the seller is obliged to replace them free of charge.

RAM overheating

Sometimes users do not understand why the computer freezes during the game, although everything works stably outside the game. A problem with RAM in this case may also occur. If it is cheap memory, then it may overheat during operation (with extensive data exchange with the processor) due to the low temperature range. Therefore, freezes are possible. Checking whether the chips are overheating is quite simple. During the game, you need to open the cover of the system unit and simply touch the bar with your finger. If it turns out to be too hot, then this clearly indicates overheating. It can be warm, but it shouldn't be hot. Some RAM manufacturers equip sticks with special aluminum plates - heatsinks that absorb heat from memory modules and then dissipate it. But even with them, the memory can overheat. In this case, you need to buy a new powerful cooler for the system unit, which will bring fresh air inside and exhaust hot air.

Video card

Why does my computer freeze while playing? Another cause of this problem is the video card. The same problems can occur with it as with the processor or RAM. The most common malfunction is a cooler failure. Note that the video card itself can operate without a cooler at all in normal mode at low loads. That is, when watching a movie in normal HD quality GPU It doesn't load much and doesn't heat up. It also doesn’t get particularly hot when surfing the Internet, but as soon as you start a game, a large amount of data is assigned to the video card for processing, and therefore the GPU starts to heat up. And if the fan does not rotate at this moment, then freezes and even a complete stop of the computer are possible.

It's quite easy to check. You need to remove the cover of the system unit and see if the video card cooler rotates. If it stands still, it means that the problem lies with it. However, it is advisable to check the fan rotation after starting the game, since some controllers activate coolers only when the temperature of the chip reaches a certain value. This is one of the reasons why the computer often freezes.

It is unlikely that you will be able to repair the video card yourself. There is hope that one of the contacts on the connector is simply dirty. You can take out the video card, wipe its contacts with alcohol and insert it back. In rare cases this helps. If not, then the PC will have to be given to service center. Let them figure out why the computer constantly freezes.

HDD

The hard drive is one of the weakest components in the system because it contains moving parts. Hard drive failures can be different: software, hardware, electronic, logical.

The reasons why the computer freezes and does not respond may be simple physical damage to the hard drive and its aging. The following “symptoms” indicate this:

  1. Low disk access speed.
  2. A large number of bad sectors (you can find this out using the Scandisk diagnostic program).
  3. Problems loading the operating system.
  4. Sudden appearance" blue screen of death".
  5. Strange sounds coming from the hard drive.

Sometimes it is quite difficult to identify problems with the operation of this component, since the signs may be subtle. However, experienced technicians can even recognize unwanted changes in the drive’s operation by sound.

If there are a large number of damaged blocks (usually on old hard drives there are many of them), the recording process will take a long time, since the system will need a lot of time to search for working (undamaged) areas. A "Delayed Write Error" may also appear on computers running the Windows operating system. In case of such malfunctions or strange sounds coming from the HDD drive, you need to install the Scandisk program and analyze the hard drive for possible failures. If bad sectors are detected on the disk, it is advisable to do backup copy important data and save it on a memory card. Of course, you can continue to use such a disk, but you shouldn’t be surprised why your Windows 10 computer freezes. The presence of bad sectors is the final stage of the “death” of the disk. You can already look for a new hard drive, since the old one doesn’t have long left.

Driver problem

Another common reason why a computer freezes during operation is drivers. Most often this problem occurs when launching games, but it sometimes occurs when the system is running. A driver is a program that allows the operating system to access a component. If it does not work correctly, then errors in the operation of any device are quite possible, which will lead to freezing or even shutting down the computer.

Most often, the video card driver crashes. Nothing wrong with that. Simply remove the old one and install the new driver, after which the system will be restored. It’s not just that video card developers consistently release new versions of software that improve the performance of components and eliminate the occurrence of various errors, including freezes.

Problems with the power supply

The power supply is also an important device - it supplies voltage to the components. If you use a cheap one Chinese block, then you shouldn’t wonder why the computer freezes. The components in the system are very demanding of constant and low voltage (usually 12 or 24 V). And if the power supply overheats, for example (this often happens with cheap Chinese models), then its operation may become unstable. As a result, the voltage supplied to the components (processor, motherboard, video card, hard drive) may decrease or increase, which will cause the device to freeze or even break down. Often, cheap power supplies literally “burn” video cards, and computer freezes are only symptoms of the imminent “death” of the video chip. But he is not the only one who can suffer. The processor, motherboard, and hard drive also receive power directly from the unit, and they are also at risk.

Motherboard

This component is the connecting part for all other hardware devices. There are also capacitors (they can swell), radiators (they can become covered with dust and dissipate heat poorly) and tracks that can simply melt as a result of a heavy load or improper voltage supply.

It is almost impossible to immediately determine why the computer freezes at startup. Perhaps the reason lies precisely in the motherboard. What can be done in this case? At a minimum, you can inspect it for the presence of swollen or melted capacitors, look for burnt areas or a characteristic odor. If a visual inspection does not produce any results, then the computer will have to be taken to a service center. They will be able to accurately determine the breakdown.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, in most cases it is impossible to independently determine why a Windows 7 computer freezes, since there can be many reasons. If the problem is in the software, then it can be solved quite simply. The most radical solution is to reinstall the operating system, which will take on average 2-3 hours including installation necessary drivers, programs, creating copies of important files, etc. However, to reinstall, you must have an installation of the operating system and be able to configure it yourself.

As for the hardware, in most cases it will not be possible to repair it yourself. There are two options: either take the components or the PC itself to a service center, or replace it yourself.

Unfortunately, practice shows that if the computer often freezes, then the problem most likely lies in the hardware, which is associated with the breakdown or malfunction of a device. In rare cases, the cause of “brakes” is actually software or program incompatibility.

The computer freezes due to overheating

Sometimes we are faced with a situation when normal, quiet work at the computer suddenly stops, and the computer begins to freeze periodically. For less experienced users, this can cause quite a bit of panic: “We need to call somewhere, call someone for help! What if I completely broke it?!!” Professionals have the usual “annoyance about wasted time”: “Damn! We need to check for viruses, rearrange drivers or system.”

When your computer started freezing- there are many reasons why this happens: infection and damage system files a virus (impairments remain even after treatment), unstable operation of the driver of one of the components, unstable operation of some auxiliary program, violation of the logical or physical integrity of the disks, incompatibility of some programs with each other, simply a physical malfunction of the hardware, for example, memory chips, video cards and so on.

If computer freezes completely, radical actions may be required, for example, reinstalling the operating system, carrying out diagnostics in a workshop, etc. But first you can try to make do with a little bloodshed - since common reason computer freezes- this is a banal overheating of internal components.

Pay attention to when your computer freezes to see if overheating may be the cause. Let's say the room has become hotter than usual (summer has arrived or the heating radiators have been turned on, next to the computer); you are running a resource-intensive application, such as a “cool” video game; you run many programs at the same time, and without leaving them, try, for example, to watch a video; you convert movies on your computer; you have many tabs open in your Internet browser (in Opera, Firefox, etc.), and you are also simultaneously typing a document in Microsoft Word or Excel (especially in latest versions Microsoft Office). Or maybe your computer works after turning it on for a while, and then hangs tightly, no matter what exactly you are doing.

If any of the situations are similar to yours, then the reason that the computer began to freeze may be overheating. What can you do to solve the problem yourself?

Try cleaning your computer from dust inside the case. Sometimes “stuff” accumulates there that you will simply be horrified. This may resemble the contents of a vacuum cleaner's dust bag after a deep cleaning. But pay attention to some details.

Before cleaning your computer, you must Be sure to unplug the power cords. Just pull it out, and not just turn off the computer. Don’t forget, further, to unscrew a couple of bolts from the back to remove one or both side walls of the case. If you are a representative of the fairer sex, ask the man in your house, or, in extreme cases, an alcoholic neighbor, about this. Joke.

Do not wipe the internal parts of the computer with any damp cloth, wet rag or the like. No water, moisture, liquids or anything else. You can remove large debris or accumulations of dust with your hands; you can remove dust from the cracks of the radiator (which sits on the processor and video card) with an old toothbrush. Proceed with caution; do not even slightly mechanically bend protruding components.

After removing large “pieces” of dust and debris, you need to blow off the computer with a stream of air. You can use a vacuum cleaner or a pump from an air mattress, a compressor to inflate a rubber boat, etc. Again, please note: the air must blow out, and not be absorbed inside!. If your vacuum cleaner does not have an air blowing mode, it is better not to use it.

Take the computer with the covers removed to the open air or balcony, and direct the air stream inside the case. Direct the jet at all parts of the computer, but do not touch the nozzle from which the air flows directly to the parts. Keep him at some distance. Pay attention to the computer's power supply, and thoroughly blow it out.

When dust stops blowing out of the computer, the process is complete. There is a good chance that your computer will stop freezing.

Cleaning a notebook is much more difficult; I strongly do not recommend opening the notebook case yourself. You can use a gentle jet to blow through accessible holes, for example, a fan hole. But, I repeat, without fanaticism, and precisely with a not very strong stream of air. You might be surprised to see what a cloud of dust comes out of your little friend.

If cleaning the computer did not help, or it did help, but the computer sometimes continues to freeze, keep track of the number of running programs. You may simply be overloading your computer. Or identify the program that freezes most often when launched.

For example, my computer would sometimes freeze when running certain programs, such as a movie conversion program. I converted movies to watch them on mobile phone. The conversion took a long time, so I wanted to do something else on the computer during this time. But as soon as I started working intensively in 1C, simultaneously with the conversion running, my computer froze.

The following helped me here. My laptop has a dual-core processor, and I assigned the conversion program to use only one core. This practically did not reduce the conversion speed, but the computer stopped freezing. And for other resource-intensive programs in which the computer froze, I began to do the same. And everything started working fine.

To assign the use of one core to a program, you need to run this program, then enter the task manager, go to the list of processes (on the [Processes] tab), find the process desired programs(or in the first tab [Applications], right-click on the mouse and select “Go to processes..."), and call the context menu by right-clicking on the process. In the context menu, select the "Set correspondence..." item, and in the window that appears, uncheck all cores (CPU0, CPU1, etc.) - leave a checkmark for only one core, for example, "CPU1"

In this case, the system will allow the resource-intensive program to load the processor only partially, and it will stop overheating. In fact, the mechanism of what is happening is more complicated, but I try to describe it in simple language. The fact remains that it really helps if the computer started freezing.

It must be remembered that the correspondence is set and is valid only while the program is running. It's not memorable. And when next launch it needs to be installed again. A little inconvenient, but alas... :)

PS. If you do call your alcoholic neighbor to help you blow your computer, don’t forget that stores close at 11 p.m.

Deadly, Windows 7 stops responding to any commands, it’s even impossible to open the task manager? Such problems appear quite rarely. It must be said that a computer is a rather complex system, and its performance depends on a huge number of factors. The article will discuss the main ones. After reading, you will learn to deal with most of the problems that lead to “freezes” on your own.

Viruses

The first answer to the question of why the computer freezes is the simplest and most common. It is quite possible that uninvited guests have settled on your computer and are well camouflaged. Typically, viruses not only threaten the security of the system, but also significantly load computer resources. Sometimes this load leads to

Everyone knows how to deal with such a scourge. It is enough to simply install any antivirus program, update its databases to the latest ones and run a complete one. It didn’t help - call and check the processes to see if there are any suspicious ones. It would also be a good idea to look into startup by entering the name of the utility “msconfig” in the “Run” window.

However, if the computer freezes tightly after turning on, it will not be possible to install new software, much less check the PC. In this case, use any antivirus distribution that can create a bootable USB flash drive or CD.

Overheat

Releasing every new model devices, manufacturers are trying to make it more sophisticated than the previous one. And this requires more power. The latter, in turn. increases heat generation. For some time, the standard cooling system copes with its job, but after a while its effectiveness decreases - as a result, the computer freezes completely. What to do if such a disaster happens?

Dust, which cannot be removed, clogs into radiators and interferes with air circulation. As dust settles on the cooler, it slows down the rotation speed of the propeller. Previously, such problems led to device failure. Today, fortunately, computers have become smarter; there will be no endless or video card. Modern devices have the ability to communicate with the motherboard, entrusting it with temperature control responsibilities. As soon as the values reach a critical point, the controller first tries to unscrew the cooler screw, but if this does not help, the system slows down the device, reducing the voltage. Soon the computer freezes completely.

To prevent such troubles from happening, remember a few simple rules:

Very often, because of this problem, the computer freezes in games or other graphics applications. To check how hot your computer components are, you can download a program. Fortunately, there are a huge number of similar ones on the Internet.

RAM problems

RAM is the most important element of a computer, which has a very large impact on its performance. Normal operation of RAM depends on compatibility with the motherboard, BIOS, and other installed memory sticks. A minor glitch, the smallest manufacturing defect - and the computer freezes tightly when turned on, not wanting to work even at low performance.

If you are going to increase or change the RAM, fully study its characteristics, go to the website of its manufacturer and the motherboard manufacturer in advance, study what speeds are supported, what tests have been carried out and whether it is recommended to use the devices together.

If the computer freezes before changing the configuration, you can check whether the RAM is faulty, using Windows 7. Just click on the “Start” button and type “memory checker” in the search box. During the procedure, the program will display all errors if any were found. There is only one recommendation: if there are errors, change the memory.

HDD instability

A hard drive is a device on which absolutely all data (both user and system) is stored. Accordingly, Windows accesses it all the time, reading and writing does not stop for a minute. This means that system performance directly depends on the speed of this component. Over time, “broken” clusters and unreadable areas may appear on it, which will lead to system failures. Often, because of this problem, the computer freezes on the Internet, because while surfing the browser constantly records and deletes many small files.

Repairing a broken HDD

If the HDD is worn out, you need to check it with special software tools that will find all damaged sectors and mark them as non-working. The OS will stop using “bads” and stop freezing. To check, launch the command line by entering the name of the program in the “Run” window - “cmd”. In it, run the command “chkdsk [drive letter]: /f /r” for each partition.

Experienced users can determine the status of the HDD by the sound of its operation. If it starts clicking or whistling, the equipment is most likely faulty and needs to be replaced. Be careful, often, if a hard drive begins to “crumble”, it will soon fail, and it is very difficult to recover data from such a device. Also, if the computer freezes after turning on, there is a high probability of wear on the hard drive.

Incorrect BIOS setting

If the computer freezes after turning on, very often the reason for this behavior of the system is incorrect BIOS settings. Someone may think that an ordinary user should not even try to fix something, but should contact a professional. But still the computer freezes tightly - what to do if there is no way to call a specialist?

If you approach BIOS configuration with care, even a beginner can handle this procedure. Explore full information about your computer, and especially about the motherboard. Usually such data is easily found on the manufacturer’s official website. Find out which parameters are most important and what they are responsible for. When working with the utility BIOS settings Never change many parameters at once. First change a few, reboot, check the computer. Only then continue editing. A special mention should be made of the item that is in every BIOS - “Load Fail-Safe Defaults”. It brings all parameters to optimal - in the opinion of the developer.

Sometimes you can download and install a new BIOS version on the motherboard manufacturer's website. Never refuse such a procedure. Updates often fix critical bugs and improve stability. It is likely that after installing the new version, the freezes will disappear. The main thing is to read the instructions in advance.

Windows Services

The operating system runs a large number of services all the time, either enabled by default or added during operation. The system can work fine without most of them. If some service does not respond or takes up too much processor time, the computer freezes.

To see which of them are in the system and which are running, open the administration window ("Start" - "Control Panel" - "Administrative Tools") and double-click the "Services" shortcut. To get comprehensive information about a particular service, double-click on its name.

First of all, pay attention to those that start automatically. The loading method is indicated in the “Startup type” column. There is only one editing rule - if you do not understand the description, do not disable the component, but find out more about its operation from the Internet. Try to check the stability of the system after each individual manipulation.

Processes and programs

Each program starts its own process (sometimes even more than one), if it enters an endless loop or malfunctions, and the computer does not always freeze completely; Windows 7 still tries to independently cut off oxygen to non-responsive components. It is very easy to identify a frozen element - it usually takes up the lion's share of RAM and almost all the processor time.

Solving the problem using the task manager

You can view the list of running processes in the task manager window. Press the combination “CTRL+ALT+DEL” on your keyboard. If you are sure that some program does not carry a payload, but at the same time takes 90-100% of the processor time, feel free to terminate it (by pressing “DEL” on the keyboard or by calling the context menu). You can also go to the location where the program is stored from here. This will be useful if you do not understand exactly what you are interrupting.

Checking processes is not always the best solution, but this procedure can often help if the computer periodically freezes. Remember that some programs can load the processor one hundred percent during the most active phases of their work. However, a frozen utility will not stop using maximum resources, and one that performs its functions without failures will again go into passive mode after some time. Also, do not try to end the process called System Idleness. It is used to poll other programs and system resources, and the variable in it does not display the processor load, but just the remaining free power.
