Microsoft yesterday released a free major update for Windows 10 - the Anniversary Update. And today we can safely say that the Anniversary Update brings many new features and improvements to Windows 10, which means it deserves special attention and the update will undoubtedly be a plus in a convenient and more functional work with the device. Owners of "Ten" can already download it through the Center windows updates, detailed.
Now let's take a closer look at the list of improvements that await us in new version right now:
1) First of all, the modified Start menu, the changed Taskbar and the Action Center are striking. The Start menu now has a new template that makes it easier to access all installed applications and added a hidden block of additional links. Additional links to notifications have appeared on the taskbar, and the notifications themselves have become smaller and more convenient, the quick action buttons can now be arranged in any order or removed altogether.
2) The expanded Parameters panel. Now there are new icons in the parameters, in particular, there are new functions for activating the system. The arrangement of some tools has also changed in the menu.
3) There is a new opportunity to customize the appearance - a dark background for applications and system windows. The dark background can be adjusted in the "Personalization" - "Color" options.
4) Updated Windows Defender. The Defender is now active in offline, periodically scans your computer for threats and, in general, is even safer.
5) Update browser version Microsoft Edge... Edge now supports new technologies, extensions and web standards, works with web notifications and has learned to read touch gestures.
6) Tools for touch input windows data Ink. The update includes various applications that will support handwriting - Notes, Sketch, Album. These tools can also be used by developers of third-party programs. all APIs will be available.
7) Beta version of the new messenger Skype. In general, the new Skype has not changed much, except that it has become more convenient and simpler.
8) Updated Cortana. The voice assistant is now synchronized between PC and mobile device, works with the Notes application, supports new types of reminders and is available to work directly from the lock screen. Unfortunately, Cortana remains unavailable for Russia today.
9) A beta version of the Linux emulator subsystem. Now in Windows 10 you can run applications created for Linux. The update itself already includes the installation of the Bash on Ubuntu on Windows shell.
10) Improved Windows Store. The developers have updated the application interface and page templates, added a log of updates and installations "Recent actions". Also in the Store there are links to hubs of Xbox games, data about your friends who play them and a progress indicator.
The owners of smartphones with Windows 10 Mobile 1511 will also receive the new version of the OS. The update for the mobile version is not so large and will affect system applications, the lock screen, from which it will now be possible to control the playback of audio files and launch the camera. Also, minor changes will affect the Settings panel and the Action and Action Center. A major update for the mobile version is expected to arrive later and will be called Redstone 2.

I must say right away that even after a few days after the release of the update, you will not immediately see an offer to install the new product on your computer in the update center, this is done in stages, apparently so as not to load the network, as it was at the beginning of the release of dozens.
If in the update center you see that there are no updates, then below try to click on the link More details... So, you will go to the official Microsoft website and thereby download a special utility from there that will allow you to download and install the latest global update. If, when you run the utility, you receive a message that Windows already has the latest version, then it is so and you do not need to do anything.
The tool, by the way, is called the Media Creation Tool. You can immediately download it from this Microsoft site, and then use it.
After installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, you can clean up disk space, thereby adding a couple of dozen GB. This can be done through the Disk Cleanup utility. In general, read and understand everything.

Judging by the materials presented on the official resource of the developer corporation, a lot of changes have appeared in the system. However, this update was only initially called Redstone, and now the update is indicated exclusively by technical means in the form of version and build.
Update 1607 is currently available (build version 14393.10). We will now consider how to install Windows 10 Anniversary Update, especially since there are at least five simplest ways for this. Let us dwell separately on possible problems.
But what is new in the new build? The main aspects of the innovations were increasing the intelligence of the Cortana assistant, improving the interaction with devices based on Android and Windows Phone, Edge browser extension support, ubiquitous biometric site authentication, new unlock system with a companion device, Windows Ink enhancements for stylus ink, return to full Skype, Linux command line, updated schemas power supply, etc. But the very first thing that is immediately visible to the naked eye is a changed interface in black design, an extended Start menu and Notification Center. The following methods are suggested as a method for installing this update:

They are simple enough. But for now, let's focus on stationary systems, not taking into account the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update. How to update to a new modification of the system for mobile devices will be discussed separately. And now - a few solutions regarding computers and laptops.
Windows 10 Anniversary Update: How to Update and What to Consider Before Installing?
As for the methods of updating themselves, presented above, they all imply only the use of different means in achieving identical goals. As already clear, user data is not affected, and only system components are subject to change (update).
As it turns out, sometimes the situation with updates gets out of control. Problems can begin both during the installation of the update, and at later stages, after its complete installation. If the user has any specialized programs, it is better to solve the installation issue with technical specialists, because today there are a lot of cases when user applications stop working (returning to its original state will be quite problematic). But more on that later.
How to update to Anniversary Update automatically?
So let's start with the simplest. Based on what was announced by Microsoft representatives, absolutely all users of the tenth version of the system on computers or mobile devices in due time will receive a special notification that update 1607 is available to them at the moment.
This is somewhat reminiscent of the situation with the Technical Preview modification, when a registered user submitted an application and waited for his turn. If you have time to wait, you don't have to rush. Anyway, sooner or later such a message will appear. The main condition for the installation is the availability of uninterrupted communication and access to the Internet. If the user agrees to the installation, the whole process will take place completely automatically.
Using "Update Center"
But there is also a category of users who do not want to wait. For them, in its simplest form, the question of how to forcibly update to the Anniversary Update can be resolved by using the usual manual search for updates in the Update Center.
To do this, go to the section itself and use the appropriate button. Upon completion of the check, a link to the installation of build 1607 may appear in the results. If the update is found, a short message will appear on the screen, after which the package will be downloaded, prepared for the update and installed after confirming the system reboot (there may be several reboots).

However, you should not really count on this. How do I get the Windows 10 Anniversary Update if the search fails? As easy as pie. To begin with, you can use the well-known Media Creation Tool utility, which was originally used to force the installation of the Technical Preview version.

So, we need to install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. How to update using this utility? Yes, exactly the same as the initial assembly was installed.
We launch the utility with administrator rights, after which we agree with the license and choose to upgrade the computer (in this case to Windows 10 Pro) while saving user data. This is followed by a standard process during which the system can be rebooted several times.

If the user does not like the above method, or, even worse, errors and crashes occur, you can try to apply a small Windows 10 Upgrade utility, which is downloaded from the official Microsoft website by clicking the update button and downloading the Windows10Upgrade9252.exe executable file to your computer.
How do I upgrade to Windows 10 Anniversary Update using it? There is nothing complicated either. It works in the same way as the previous program. We launch the "executable" file on behalf of the administrator, wait for the results of the system compatibility check, follow the instructions of the installer and wait for the installation process to complete.
Updating with an ISO image
There is another technique that allows you to quite simply solve the issue of installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. How do I upgrade? Yes, just use a ready-made system image that you need to create in the Media Creation Tool application, specifying the appropriate item at the installation stage.
When the image is created, double-click on it in the usual "Explorer", and after creating the virtual drive, use the standard setup file Setup.exe. This is followed by the standard scheme described above. You can download a ready-made image from the Internet (if you want, even from an official resource).
How to update your mobile system
Finally, consider mobile version Windows 10 Anniversary Update. How do I update to this modification on a mobile device?
Unfortunately, in this case, the choice of funds in comparison with stationary systems is extremely limited. It is best to use a manual search for available updates here.
It can be produced directly on a mobile device. First, you should enter the parameters section, where the update and security menu is selected, after which the phone update item is used, and then the search button for available updates is pressed.
Immediately you should pay attention to one more side of the installation of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update package. Therefore, it is better to install the 1607 update into the system not with the minimum working configuration, but at least with the recommended, and even better - with the configuration above. But even all this does not guarantee that the computer will work normally, because after installing this update, a complete system freeze is often observed. Until now, no one can really explain what this is connected with.
Is it worth doing this?
Finally, one cannot ignore the problems of functioning of user applications that were installed in the old modification. Today, user reviews say that some of them simply stop working, the executable files of the programs are renamed spontaneously, the system does not recognize the programs and their launch files, considering that they are not intended for this modification. Therefore, you need to have one hundred percent confidence that the new assembly is extremely necessary for the user and will not damage the installed software. By the way, a similar situation was observed with the primary technical version, however, then it concerned more free antivirus and all sorts of optimizers.
Instead of an afterword
In general, as can be seen from the above, the problem of updating to a new anniversary modification of the system is not too difficult. What to use as a means of updating, everyone decides for himself. However, if you approach the update from the point of view of maximum security and an accelerated procedure, it is best to turn to the help of special utilities, especially since these are official programs that certainly will not harm the system. And, of course, you should pay special attention to the hardware installed on the computer, because, unfortunately, there is no guarantee that the new modification will work on it as expected.
Well, in a situation with mobile devices the choice is small. The only consolation is that the available update on mobile devices during manual search is determined much more often than on stationary computers or laptops. But there are also pitfalls here. First, on the official website, you need to see a list of devices that will support the work of the new modification without any questions. If there is no user gadget in the list, you will have to install the update at your own risk. Again, there is no guarantee that the system will work. And in the case of installing custom firmware, it generally cannot be for all security reasons. So think a hundred times before doing this kind of thing.
And one moment. It should be understood that updating the graphical interface and supposedly improving some of the system's capabilities ultimately leads to the fact that system resources will be used to a greater extent (user settings for some components may not be saved). You will have to re-configure the system for yourself, disabling all unnecessary. So judge, do you need the capabilities offered by the new modification? The same Cortana assistant is not available at all in the post-Soviet space. So what's the point of installing its new functions if the system does not have this component initially?
