Backup batteries for phones and tablets reviews. How to choose a portable battery (Power Bank) for your phone: main features and best models

Backup batteries for phones and tablets reviews. How to choose a portable battery (Power Bank) for your phone: main features and best models

18.11.2020

Modern mobile phones amaze with graphics and functionality, allow users to run 3D games and watch videos in HD resolution, but they have one significant flaw: they are quickly discharged. Of course, the user can carry as an addition to the main gadget a budget “dialer” from Philips, which will allow not to miss an important call, but this is inconvenient. It is much more efficient and rational to buy an external battery for a smartphone instead of a spare phone.

External batteries for smartphones and tablets are portable power supplies that are structurally similar to conventional batteries: the controller board combines up to 10 batteries in a reliable case.

Using such a charger is simple: you first need to recharge it from a 220 Volt outlet (you can also use USB, but it will take more time), then when the smartphone battery is depleted, connect the external battery and the gadget with a cable. The battery will begin transmitting energy. A fully charged portable battery usually lasts several charges from 0 to 100%.

There is a modification of a portable charger: a battery case, which also performs a protective function. Such covers are made for specific models, and therefore are more expensive.

External batteries: types of products

There are only three types of portable chargers known:

  • Lithium Ion. These are the products most often found on storefronts. The benefits of these chargers include safety and energy efficiency. There are also two drawbacks: firstly, they fail quite quickly (especially with constant use), and secondly, the purchase of such a device will cost a pretty penny.
  • Lithium polymer... These batteries are considered to be improved: they have adopted all the positive characteristics of lithium-ion chargers, while receiving a nice price. However, it is difficult to find them in salon stores: you have to order via the Internet, and the cost of delivery kills all the benefits.
  • Nickelcadmium... These are aliens from the "bygone era" - such batteries were used to charge the first phones and were popular due to their minimal cost. Now they are almost not produced: firstly, their harmfulness to health has been proven, and secondly, their impressive size does not allow them to be called portable.

The type of battery should be indicated on the packaging and on the price tag (less often). You must first decide which type is more suitable, and already on this decision, base the choice of an external battery for a smartphone.

How to choose the best power bank: basic criteria

It is worth paying attention to the 3 main parameters of portable batteries:

  • Total battery capacity... This parameter characterizes the lifespan of the battery from one charge and is measured in milliampere-hours (mAh). The rule applies: the capacity of the external battery must exceed the capacity of the battery of the gadget at least twice.
  • Current strength... This parameter is indicated on the factory charge. For smartphones, a current of 1A is usually suitable, for tablets - 2A. You can also charge smartphones from a 2-amp battery (charging will be even faster), however, tests confirm that gadgets fail with increased amperage. The best option is to choose a battery with two connectors of different strengths.
  • Size and weight... The larger the battery capacity, the more massive the device itself. The buyer should proceed from personal needs: if he buys a battery for periodic use in urban conditions, then 5000 mAh is enough, but if he intends to travel and wants to charge several gadgets at once, it is not worth taking less than 10 thousand mAh. It is important to remember: a device with a compact size cannot have an outstanding capacity. The offer of such a device is simply an attempt to mislead the buyer.

Top 3: rating of external batteries

According to the reviews, it is worth paying attention to the following models of portable chargers:

Conclusion

Choosing which external battery is better based on color, shape, or the presence of a monochrome display is silly: these are secondary criteria. You need to pay attention first of all to the current strength and capacity of the battery - an inattentive attitude to these parameters can lead to the fact that an expensive gadget will be out of order. The brand should also be evaluated: it is better to put aside the Chinese "know-names" and prefer the products of such well-known manufacturers as InterStep and Hiper.

A very popular powerbank that is in demand both in Russian retail and in Chinese online stores. This model is capable of delivering a maximum current of 2.4 A. This makes it possible to recommend the accessory for purchase to tablet owners. Even a 10-inch device can be recharged at least twice, since the capacity of this battery is 20,000 mAh.

The main distinguishing feature of the accessory is support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology. This will be appreciated by all owners of smartphones equipped with this technology. By the way, the battery itself charges in about four hours. With such a capacity, this can be considered a very commendable result.

Of course, the Chinese manufacturer did not forget to introduce support for all kinds of protection here. That is, the product is not afraid of short circuit, overheating or overload. It remains to add that it is proposed to charge the gadgets using two USB connectors.

Advantages

    High amperage;

    Large capacity;

    The battery charges quickly enough;

    Able to work with Qualcomm's fast charging technology;

    High reliability;

    The price does not exceed 2,000 rubles.

disadvantages

    The number of USB ports is quite small;

    Large dimensions and weight;

    Boring appearance.

This external battery got into our rating due to the combination of a high capacity, reaching here 24,000 mAh, and a relatively compact size. The accessory weighs 415 g, which can be considered its main disadvantage. But the manufacturer managed to place the battery inside a rather thin case, albeit with a large area. Such a power bank will definitely find a place in a backpack.

Unlike the example discussed above, there are already three connectors, and the outgoing current is capable of reaching 3 A (at least, this applies to one port). At the same time, micro-USB, Lightning and USB Type-C connectors are used to charge the external battery - that is, you don't have to keep a specific cable at hand, the cord for your smartphone will do, whatever it may be. And here, too, there is support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology, which allows many mid-budget and flagship devices to charge in the shortest possible time.

Otherwise, this is a typical powerbank, the high cost of which is due to the presence of a large number of connectors, huge capacity and decent amperage.

Advantages

    Large capacity;

    You can charge up to three devices at the same time;

    Supports Qualcomm fast charging technology;

    The battery is quite thin;

    High output current;

    Several different connectors for charging the powerbank itself.

disadvantages

    Decent weight;

    The cost reaches 4000 rubles.

A very curious product, the main task of which can be considered the surprise of the buyer. The fact is that this is the only powerbank in our rating that is capable of charging a smartphone wirelessly, if it supports such technology. If you use a wired connection, then the maximum buyer is waiting for a current of 2.1 A. Unfortunately, there is no support for any fast charging technology here. Also, someone may be upset with two USB connectors. But more of them are not required, since the capacity of this powerbank is low - it is only 10,000 mAh.

To recharge the external battery, you can use a cable with a micro-USB or USB Type-C connector (only the first option is included in the kit). There are two versions of the accessory on sale, with white and black body colors. Such a miracle costs about 2500 rubles.

Advantages

    Two color options for the case;

    Wireless charging supported;

    High amperage;

    Relatively small size;

    Good means of protection;

    The cost cannot be called prohibitive.

disadvantages

    Only two connectors for charging gadgets;

    The capacity cannot be called very large.

This external battery comes in standard sizes and shapes. The product got into our rating mainly due to the abundance of color options - in stores you can find this model in blue, yellow, pink, white, and these are only the most popular versions. Also, a 215-gram device can boast of a high outgoing current, reaching 2.4 A. This allows you to relatively quickly charge almost any gadget.

It must be admitted that this model was not created for tablets. The fact is that the capacity of the external battery does not exceed 10,050 mAh. This is barely enough to charge a 10-inch tablet. Nevertheless, smartphone owners will definitely like the accessory. The only drawback of selling for 2000 rubles. external battery can be considered the presence of only one USB port.

Advantages

    Lots of color options;

    High amperage;

    Several built-in protections;

    Robust construction with metal body;

    The weight cannot be called very large;

    Affordable price tag.

disadvantages

    Only one charging connector;

    Charging speed is far from record;

    Not very large capacity.

A very popular model created for those who regularly need a small amount of energy. The capacity of this battery is 7500 mAh. This is enough to charge a standard smartphone a couple of times. But even more often, an accessory from HIPER is used to charge an action camera. At the same time, it is allowed to charge two gadgets here, while the maximum current on one of the connectors reaches quite decent 2.1 A. I am glad that the manufacturer took care of installing all kinds of protection means - the accessory is not afraid of overload and short circuits.

This external battery has become very popular in due time due to several nice additions. Firstly, there is a flashlight, albeit a simple one. Secondly, the set comes with a lot of adapters, including those designed for old mobile phones. Third, the battery can act as a card reader, providing a microSD slot. Finally, one cannot fail to note the high-quality metal construction.

Advantages

    Adequate size and weight;

    High amperage;

    Two connectors are used to charge gadgets;

    The set includes adapters for different phones and smartphones;

    The simplest card reader is built in;

    There is a flashlight;

    High build quality;

    The cost is less than 1000 rubles.

disadvantages

    Low capacity;

    The battery charging time reaches 3.75 hours.

Best external batteries for laptops

One of the most affordable options among external batteries, including for charging laptops. The accessory is sold for 3290 rubles, supplied with a lot of adapters for popular and not very popular laptop sockets. Of course, there are also adapters for smartphones in the kit. Perhaps such a kit is the main reason for this model to be included in our rating.

It should be understood that with a capacity of 18,000 mAh, it was difficult to increase the current strength to more than 2.1 A. Therefore, the buyer should not rely on very fast laptop charging. But the external battery itself can be charged very quickly, since the input current can reach 3 A. To charge compact gadgets, two USB connectors are used here, there is support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology. As befits such a device, a large number of protection measures have been introduced into it, including those against short circuit and overheating.

Advantages

    High capacity;

    The set includes a car adapter;

    There are many round connector adapters available;

    Implemented support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0;

    Reliable construction.

disadvantages

  • Weight reaches 420 g.

For some time now, DELL has also produced its own accessories. Its portable battery with a capacity of 18,000 mAh is primarily intended for charging laptops. And not necessarily produced by DELL - in the kit you can find adapters for different sockets. In total, two USB ports and one universal connector are intended for charging gadgets, and the maximum product is capable of delivering a voltage of 19.5 V at a current of 2.3 A.

The weight of the accessory reaches 417 g, and this is with a plastic case! As for the cost, it cannot be called particularly humane - in Russia, they ask for a little less than 7,000 rubles for a battery that got into our rating.

Advantages

    High-quality assembly;

    High amperage;

    Can charge laptop and battery at the same time;

    The dimensions cannot be called very large;

    Simple and clear charge indicator;

    Battery charging time is no more than three hours.

disadvantages

    Very high cost;

    The capacity is not too large.

One of the most capacious external batteries in our rating. He is also the most difficult. However, with a capacity of 28,000 mAh, the product cannot weigh less than 830 g. The dimensions of the accessory suggest that it is better to carry it in a laptop bag. Also, the battery can be stored at home in case the electricity suddenly turns off. There is not only a universal connector, but also two USB ports. With the help of the latter, you can charge a smartphone, push-button telephone and other portable gadgets. A maximum current of 2.1 A is supplied to these connectors. As for the universal socket, a current of 3.2 A is output to it, which is most important in the case of laptops.

There are ten laptop adapters included in the kit. There is no doubt that the manufacturer has not forgotten about any type of nest. The accessory also comes with two charging cables for Apple MacBook - with the first and second types of MagSafe. The box also contains its own power adapter capable of delivering high voltage current to speed up the charging time of the external battery. Without it, charging such a capacious product would have lasted, it seems, several days.

Advantages

    Rare battery for charging MacBook;

    High amperage;

    High-quality assembly;

    Very high capacity;

    A large number of adapters included;

    Supplied with mains adapter.

disadvantages

    There is no overload protection;

    The cost reaches 8000 rubles.

    Large dimensions and weight;

Another external battery with a capacity of 18,000 mAh in our rating. He also has not only a pair of USB sockets, but also a universal connector that serves to connect a laptop. The kit contains a set of adapters designed for a variety of laptop models. As expected, a current of 3.2 A is supplied to the universal connector. As for the USB ports, they output current of 2.1 and 1 A, which is ideal for charging modern smartphones and tablets.

Otherwise, this is a typical portable battery. It comes in strictly silver color and has a metal body. There are also some remedies here.

Advantages

    High amperage;

    There is a set of adapters for laptops;

    High-quality assembly;

    Can charge two devices at the same time;

    Adequate size and weight.

disadvantages

    May become noticeably warm;

    When charging the laptop, it may emit a squeak;

    The cost reaches a decent 6,200 rubles.

The best external batteries with a waterproof case

One of the most inexpensive portable batteries among those that are absolutely not afraid of rain and fog. The product is equipped with a rubberized case, thanks to which it is also not afraid of falls on a hard surface. The increased dimensions and weight are here compensated by the presence of a solar battery. However, you cannot count on it even if you are in Brazil. The fact is that the solar battery generates a current with a very weak force - the battery is simply not able to fully charge from it.

The manufacturer indicates on the box a capacity of 20,000 mAh. However, in reality, this parameter does not exceed 16,000 mAh. The accessory also has a pair of USB ports, which are supplied with a current of 1 and 2.4 A. Adapters for micro-USB and Lightning are supplied with the product. A nice bonus is the carabiner with which the 377-gram accessory can be fastened to the belt.

Advantages

    There is a waterproof and shockproof case;

    The kit includes a carbine;

    There is a clear charge indicator;

    The cost does not exceed 3300 rubles.

disadvantages

    The manufacturer is lying about the capacity;

    The solar battery almost does not work.

Another portable battery with a solar battery and a rubberized case. On one of the corners of the device, you can easily see a loop - it serves to attach to the belt with a carabiner. Another nice addition is a flashlight, which is quite capable of being useful anywhere in nature. Unlike the model discussed above, this battery is still capable of charging a gadget from the energy of the sun. But, again, there is no need to rely on high amperage, the device with a capacious battery is so unlikely to be charged even for a whole day.

Advantages

    Both USB connectors are high amperage;

    There is a loop for a carabiner;

    The solar battery is working properly; There is a flashlight;

    Price - about 2500 rubles.

disadvantages

    Low capacity;

    The battery itself takes a long time to charge;

    Strange operation of the charge indicator;

    A large percentage of defective products.

Perhaps the most original external battery in our rating. The product has a round shape, and in its upper part there is a carrying handle. At the same time, the accessory turned out to be very compact, which is not at all surprising with a capacity of 5800 mAh. On one of the sides of the Ritmix RPB-5800LT there is a display on which it is shown what exactly the battery is doing right now - receiving or giving off energy. Also, a flashlight should please the buyer. Someone has to make a choice in favor of this accessory and due to the availability of three color options - batteries with red, green and black cases are on sale.

As befits a travel battery, the Ritmix RPB-5800LT boasts a waterproof case. Unfortunately, this is where its main advantages end. However, one can be glad at least that the list of shortcomings is essentially limited only by low capacity. You cannot even blame the creators for one USB connector - with such a capacity, it makes no sense to charge two gadgets at the same time.

Advantages

    The current strength is 2.1 A;

    Small size and weight;

    Unique shape;

    Three colors to choose from;

    There is a waterproof case;

    There is a flashlight;

    You can buy it for only 1300 rubles.

disadvantages

    The battery itself charges very slowly;

    Low capacity.

Best solar powered external batteries

Everyone should be aware that a miniature solar cell can only supply electricity to a calculator. If you need to charge a portable battery, you will need a large enough solar panel. And this is exactly what the product called Goal Zero Guide 10 Plus Solar Kit has. Already by its name it is clear that the solar battery is supplied separately. It looks like a very large case. It needs to be spread somewhere in the meadow, after which it will begin to process solar energy, charging a portable battery or a gadget connected to it.

By the way, the device itself is also very unusual here. It uses four nickel-cupronickel batteries. At any time, you can insert them, for example, into a remote control for a quadcopter. This solution also has a drawback - at most, such batteries can give out only 1 A, it is this current that goes to both USB connectors installed here. By the way, the total capacity of external batteries reaches 9200 mAh, which can be called a quite acceptable parameter. And there is also a built-in flashlight - in nature it is rarely superfluous.

Advantages

    Complete with NOMAD 7 solar panel;

    There are two USB connectors;

    Built-in flashlight;

    Not the lowest capacity for such a small device.

disadvantages

    A mini-USB connector is used for charging;

    Not everyone will want to mess with Ni-MH batteries;

    The weight of the whole set reaches 641 g;

    The price is an impressive 8,000 rubles.

This is an external battery in its usual form. That is, the solar panel is here on one side of the accessory. The product got into our rating due to its cost, which does not exceed 3000 rubles. For this money, the buyer will receive a 5000 mAh battery, which is enough for one-time charging of the smartphone. Charging it from the sun is a bit tricky unless you're somewhere in Africa. But it is quite possible to at least partially replenish the charge during a halt.

Despite the frankly low capacity, the product produces a current of 2 A. It also boasts a large number of adapters - you can send electricity via Apple 30 pin, Lightning, micro-USB and even mini-USB connectors. The only thing missing is the version with USB Type-C - such an adapter seems to have to be purchased separately. Which, however, is not a problem.

Advantages

    There is a solar panel;

    Optimal price tag;

    A large number of adapters;

    Compact size and light weight;

    High amperage.

disadvantages

    The solar panel has low power;

    Low capacity;

    There is no waterproof case.

This external battery from G-Power got into our rating due to its rather large capacity - this parameter here is 12,000 mAh. The solar panel is located on one of the side ends of the device. Of course, its area does not allow hoping for a decent current strength, but it is still capable of partially restoring the battery charge.

Like most external batteries existing today, the accessory has a charge indicator. The product also includes a plastic case. Alas, it does not possess any moisture-proof properties, so it is better not to get into the rain with such a power bank. Two USB connectors are used to charge gadgets. One of them delivers a current of 1 A, while the other - 2 A.

This is where all the features of the accessory end. He is not capable of surprising anything else. Perhaps this is one of the cheapest external batteries with a solar panel - its cost in Russia does not exceed 1,500 rubles.

Advantages

    There is a solar battery;

    High amperage available;

    Reasonable price tag;

    High enough capacity;

    You can charge two gadgets at the same time.

disadvantages

    The solar panel does not work well;

    There are questions about the reliability of the design.

The best external high-capacity batteries

If your portable power bank has a very high capacity, you won't be able to take it with you on the plane. However, these accessories can be very useful in the face of regular power outages. For example, in such places the Rombica NEO PRO 440C, which has a capacity of 44,000 mAh, literally saves. This is a huge parameter, which is enough for a week of constant use of the flagship smartphone! But, of course, much more often this accessory will be used in tandem with a laptop. In total, the kit contains 28 adapters for a variety of devices, including laptops. There are even MagSafe 1 and MagSafe 2 cables, which will be useful for MacBook owners.

This is one of the few power banks that is capable of delivering a current of 3 A via USB. If we talk about a universal connector, then it does give out a current of 4 A. Also, the user can switch modes in which not only the current strength, but also the voltage changes ... Also, it should be noted that there is support for the USB Porwer Delivery Rev.2 standard - this function works when the gadget is connected to the USB Type-C connector, which is supplemented here with a pair of traditional USB ports. The manufacturer did not forget about the introduction of Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology, without which the battery itself would charge forever.

If you think about it, this is the most advanced powerbank in our ranking. But you won't be able to carry such an accessory in your pocket - it is huge, and its weight reaches 1150 g! Another obvious drawback is the cost of 9,000 rubles.

Advantages

    Huge capacity;

    There is support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0;

    The set includes a network adapter;

    Charging of laptops is possible;

    There is support for MacBook;

    The package includes a huge number of adapters;

    Support for different charging standards.

disadvantages

    Scary price tag;

    Huge size and weight.

The capacity of this external battery has been increased to 30,000 mAh. In this case, the accessory is sold for only 2000-2500 rubles. What is the reason for such an affordable price tag? To be honest, it is very difficult to answer this question. The device comes in two colors. At its end you can find as many as four USB connectors, which is even an excessive amount. The maximum current is 2.1 A, which is also quite good. And only the plastic case raises some questions - we can say that in the hands there is a feeling of cheapness.

Advantages

    There are four USB ports;

    High amperage;

    The battery itself charges quickly enough;

    Small size and adequate weight;

    Optimal price tag.

disadvantages

  • The real capacity is much lower than the declared one.

Best Power Banks for iPhone

Above in our rating, I already talked about an analogue of this external battery, which differs only in a smaller capacity. But it's not a sin to repeat, even if in many ways this instance is similar to its younger brother. It just turned out to be a little larger, and its capacity was increased to 12,500 mAh. This product comes with a set of adapters, including Lightning for iPhone. By the way, the capacity available here is enough for three or four full recharges of the "apple" smartphone, which can be considered a very good result.

You can charge two gadgets with this battery at once - this is exactly the number of USB connectors installed here. One of the jacks produces a current of 2.1 A, while the second is designed to charge less demanding devices - for example, smart watches, push-button mobile phones or cycling computers. Like its less capacious brother, the HIPER MP12500 received a card reader and a flashlight, which will probably come in handy someday. The weight of the accessory with a metal case is 312 g. Perhaps, this is the only significant drawback - now some manufacturers have learned to make batteries with such a capacity less heavy. This instance costs only about 1300 rubles.

Advantages

    A large number of adapters included;

    Optimal capacity;

    Low cost;

    Reliable metal case;

    One of the connectors has a high amperage;

    There are bonuses in the form of a flashlight and a card reader.

disadvantages

    Large weight;

    The battery itself takes a long time to charge.

Another portable battery with adapters for Lightning and Apple 30 pin. The capacity of this product has been increased to 20 800 mAh. This allows you to use your smartphone for almost a whole week, charging it only from this accessory. Of course, you can also charge some other gadgets. Moreover, it is possible to recharge three devices at the same time. But the current of 2.1 A is given by only one connector, the other two are limited to one ampere. As for charging the battery itself, the maximum product is capable of accepting a current of 1.5 A. This is not God knows what indicator, so the process is expected to be quite long - it takes about 15 hours.

The manufacturer decided to please the buyer with several bonuses. Firstly, the battery can act as a flashlight. Secondly, in the box you can find a case that helps to carry the accessory without damaging its plastic case. In a word, it turns out to be a very good choice for those 1,700 rubles that are asked for it.

Advantages

    High capacity, almost the same as stated;

    The dimensions cannot be called gigantic;

    Affordable cost;

    There is a flashlight;

    The kit contains all the most necessary adapters;

    Supplied with a case;

    There are three USB sockets;

    One of the connectors has a high amperage.

disadvantages

  • Long charging of the battery itself.

The only external battery in our rating with a nice drawing on the case. There are three variants in total, one of which comes in black with the addition of a snarling bear.

Basically, the manufacturer relied on the drawing. In terms of technical characteristics, the powerbank does not really stand out among its competitors. The capacity of the product is only 5000 mAh. This suggests that the battery is only for one-time charging of the smartphone. But the accessory has a very compact size, and its weight is only 117 g. Adapters for micro-USB and Lightning are supplied with the product. As for the USB connectors, there are two of them here. The maximum outgoing current is 2 A, which allows you to charge your smartphone in a fairly short time. And the powerbank itself charges very quickly.

Advantages

    There is short circuit protection;

    High amperage;

    Can charge two devices at the same time;

    Small size and weight;

    The case of the accessory is decorated with a stylish pattern;

    The cost does not exceed 1000 rubles.

disadvantages

  • Low capacity.

Conclusion

This is an almost complete list of the best external batteries available on the Russian electronics market. Any of the considered devices should leave only positive impressions after their use. Now you just have to decide on the purpose of the accessory, as well as the amount you would be ready to part with.

Attention! This rating is subjective and does not constitute advertising and does not serve as a purchase guide. Before buying, you need to consult with a specialist.

The main problem with modern phones and tablets is low battery capacity. Most smartphones have a hard time making it into the evening or sit down at the most inopportune moment. Big screens, powerful 4G and 5G apps all drain your battery and drain your phone at the most inopportune moment. Is there a real opportunity to extend its service life and not get into an unpleasant situation? The solution is simple - userecharging it when needed at the workplace, in the car or on the subway. In this article we will talk about how to choose the right portable charger for your phone and how to use it correctly.

You've probably come across a situation when your phone runs out of charge at the most inopportune moment. It's good if this happens at home or in the office, where it can be recharged. But if you went on a trip and use your smartphone as a navigator, if you urgently need to take an important call or check your mail, and it takes several hours to get to the nearest outlet, then only a portable charger or a spare battery will help you, which will have to be charged separately or carried with you ...

Classic Power Bank for charging

Working with a spare battery is not always convenient - the phone will have to be disassembled, replaced, turned off. In some models, the battery is not removable at all, so this trick will not work. Portable charging is preferable for this.

Most chargers are rechargeable batteries that charge from the USB connector and transfer the charge through a cable to the phone. There are also various exotic chargers from a solar battery or a fire, but they are mainly of interest to tourists. In our article, we will focus on the so-called Power Bank, which are colloquially called external batteries. Consider what types areportable batteries for charging the phone, how they differ and which device can be chosen for reinsurance.

Portable phone batteries are very popular in the market right now.

What is Power Bank

Power Bank, in fact, is a universal battery suitable for charging any device via USB or mini-USB connector. It is an array made up of several small batteries connected together and packed in a beautiful case. The battery capacity depends on the number of cells, in popular models it varies from 5 mAh to 15 mAh.

The case of the Power Bank can be plastic or aluminum, it has 1-2 outputs, charge indicators, a power button and other additional options. For example, some models have a built-in LED that allows you to use the Bank as a flashlight. But the main task of the device is to charge phones, smartphones, tablets and other devices.

More about capacity

If you chooseportable charger for mobile phone, then be sure to pay attention to the number of "swings" (mAh) or milliampere-hours. It is in them that the capacity is indicated and how much your smartphone is charged depends on this indicator.

Attention:the larger the capacity of the Power Bank, the greater its weight and dimensions. You don't need to buy overly powerful devices for your smartphone if you only need to recharge your phone occasionally - it will be an unreasonable waste of money, and it will be inconvenient to carry a huge and heavy device.

Inside the Power Bank there are modern lithium-polymer or lithium-ion batteries, the main advantage of which is the minimum self-discharge current and high specific energy intensity. They can withstand up to 500-600 charge / discharge cycles, after which they slowly begin to degrade. On average, when the phone is charged 2-3 times a week, they last for 5-6 years, which is quite a decent period for modern batteries.

Solar charging will be useful for tourists and travelers

Now let's figure out how to choose the right container. At the moment, there are devices on sale with a capacity from 2 to 20mAh. Find out how much battery capacity is on your phone. Add 20% to this and you get the desired capacity.

Example:your smartphone has a 2200mAh battery. To fully charge, you need to use a Power Bank with a capacity of 2200 + 2200 * 0.2 \u003d 2640. That is, theoretically, a bank with a capacity of Mach 2.5 is enough for a full charge, but it is better to play it safe and take 3.

Tablets have larger batteries, so devices with a capacity of 7-15 mach are suitable for them.

Calculating the number of charging cycles

Consider one subtletyportable chargers for phones, which must be known without fail and taken into account before choosing. Many people believe that if the battery capacity is 3mAh, then by purchasing a charger for 15 it will be possible to charge the phone 5 times. But this is a deep misconception. If you choose a bank that can charge the battery several times, then carefully read the following information.

  1. Batteries have self-discharge. If you charge the 15 flywheel device at 100%, then after two days its capacity will be 14, after another 2 days - 11, etc. Different devices have different degrees of self-discharge, but it is present everywhere.
  2. Power Bank is not 100% efficient. So, the battery has an output voltage of 3.7-3.5 volts (depending on the state of charge), while USB requires 5 volts. Therefore, a step-up transformer is included in the bank's circuit, which also eats up part of the capacity. Remarkably, in the phone, these 5 volts are converted to 3.7 volts again, and the loss occurs again.

On average, the bank is able to give 70-80% of its real capacity when charging. And if in the city these losses are insignificant (by “feeding” the phone from Power Bank, you can get to a full charge), then for travelers it can become a problem. Therefore, be sure to purchase devices with a margin of 20 or even 30 percent to get the desired values.

Example:if the capacity of your battery in the smartphone is 2200mAh and you plan to charge it from the bank at least 5 times, then 2200 * 5 \u003d 11000 + 11000 * 0.3 \u003d 14300. The Mach 15,000 capacity will be enough to charge the device the required number of times until the batteries inside begin to degrade.

How to choose the right one

Now you know,how to correctly calculate capacity and stock. Let us analyze which device is right for your phone.

The key advice is to decide in what format and when you need to recharge. If you use a phone for work and in 99% of cases out of 100 it is enough for the whole day, and you charge it every night, then a small 1mAh key fob that can be carried on keys is enough for you. It will not overload your pocket or get in the way, and this capacity is enough to charge the phone by 30-40 percent and calmly get to the classic charging.

Standard charger resembles a pack of cigarettes

Considering smallyou should focus on the batteries built into the cases. These are quite interesting devices, the main advantage of which is their compact size. You just purchase a convenient protective case for your phone and along with it you get an additional 2-3 thousand mAh battery that can fully charge your smartphone if necessary.

Charge currents

Native phone chargers have such a parameter as charging current. It can vary from 0.5 to 1.5 Amperes (sometimes even 2 A). The higher the current, the faster the battery will charge. For pocket chargers, this parameter is lower than for wired chargers, and usually amounts to 0.2-1 A. When choosing a device, remember that the higher the charging current, the sooner the device will charge. Do not buy inexpensive devices with minimal performance - very often they provide only maintenance of the battery charge, while not really charging the phone (during operation, the smartphone consumes as much or even more than a weak Power Bank gives it). Buy devices with a power over 0.5 A, and preferably 1 A, then your phone will be charged in 3 hours instead of 5.

Li-Ion devices

The most common types of charging are those powered by 18650 lithium-ion batteries. They are similar to conventional AA batteries, but are larger. The output voltage is 3.7 volts, the standard capacity is 2500 mAh, and the weight is 45 grams. Li-Ion batteries can withstand up to 600 charges without degradation, and by 1000 charge cycles they lose 20% of their capacity. The main advantage of the cells on lithium-ion devices is a long service life, low self-discharge current, low weight and no memory effect.

Of the minuses, one can single out the violation of the tightness of the batteries, which manifests itself when the device overheats - do not leave it on the battery, in the sun under the glass of a car, in other places with high temperatures. Overheating during charging on modern high-quality devices does not occur - special protection is installed in the unit.

Attention:today on the market there are a lot of counterfeits from unscrupulous manufacturers promising 30,000-50,000 mAh in inexpensive devices. Buy only branded Power Banks in trusted locations.

Li-ion batteries inside charging

Note the approximate dependence of the capacity on the mass - 5,000 swings weighs at least 100 grams. Therefore, a 50,000 device will weigh a kilogram, not 300 grams, as promised in various online stores. However, such a system for determining the real capacity is not a panacea - the Chinese have learned to put weighting agents in the case in order to convince buyers of the reality of the characteristics. You can check the capacity using a multimeter or calculations.

Li-Polymer devices

Lithium polymer batteries are considered to be more advanced devices than lithium ion batteries. The electrolyte in them is a special polymer with gel lithium. They are rectangular plastic bags with two leads. The package contains electrolyte and working elements. The case of the Power Bank reliably protects an unstable battery from damage. The key advantages are low weight, high energy density per unit volume, and no memory effect. Of the minuses - a complex circuit that protects the battery from overheating, providing a specialized charging mode for current. Also, the battery should not be deeply discharged, since it may not turn on (it will be necessary to apply voltage directly to the contacts, bypassing the circuit in order to revive it).

Attention:buy only certified lithium-polymer devices, as counterfeits often fail. They are prone to fire, emitting enormous amounts of heat and gas, which is extremely harmful to health.

It is from these batteries that fires start and phones burn out. If a short circuit occurs while charging, the device could cause a serious fire.

Polymer battery without case

conclusions

If you want to be always in touch or your phone plays an important role in your life, then a portable charger should definitely be present in your pocket. The main thing is to decide on its capacity and weight. For travelers who spend a week without an outlet, powerful batteries for 15-30 thousand swings are suitable, for office workers small 1-3 thousandth batteries. We recommend that you purchase original chargers so as not to be disappointed in them - today there are a lot of fakes on the market. A quality item will not be cheap. The average price of the original bank is $ 30-40.

If you have a phone and a tablet, you can purchase a device with two outputs - it can charge them at the same time. There are many options on the market - research them before making your final choice.

A modern smartphone can run out of power at the most inopportune moment when you do not have access to an outlet. And even during a hike, difficulties will arise guaranteed - even the best models of smartphones cannot operate on a single charge for more than three days, while an outing into nature with a tent can drag on for a whole week. Fortunately, this problem can be solved quite simply - just buy an external battery. In this article we will talk about a device such as an external battery for a phone, how to choose.

Which company to choose an external battery?

Naturally, this niche of computer technology has its own production leaders, and this is what brands are most often preferred by users.

How to choose an external battery?

When choosing an external battery, you should think about how you will use it:

  1. If you are going on a hike for many days, then you should look for a copy with a large supply of capacity. If you want to guarantee yourself the evening functioning of your smartphone, then an accessory with a capacity of no more than 5000 mAh will suit you perfectly.
  2. You should also be interested in the number of connectors present. In particular, larger models can have a round universal connector. As a rule, the current output to it is more than 3 A - this makes it possible to charge the laptop.
  3. In addition, dimensions should also worry. The technologies are gradually improving, due to which modern batteries with the same capacity become smaller in size.
  4. As for the flashlight and solar battery, as a rule, they are rarely used, so you should not be too guided by them when choosing a suitable device.
  5. To choose an external battery for your smartphone , which will meet all the desired parameters, first you need to decide exactly how you are going to use it and for which gadgets. After weighing all the advantages and disadvantages, you can choose an accessory that will come to the rescue at any time.

Portable external batteries for powering mobile devices, which ten years ago were still a curiosity, are now very popular. But the need to use them is different for all people. It can be said with certainty that the more “mobile” a person's lifestyle is, the more he needs this adaptation.

And if for those who rest on weekends by the river, this is just a desirable attribute, then for hikers it is already a must-have item: being left without navigation, light and communication in a deep forest is not the best prospect. An additional battery will also be useful for frequent travels due to production needs, as well as for long trips or flights (but in the latter case, you need to make sure that they are not banned from carriage in carry-on luggage, the rules may change at any time).

There is a good English-language term in the world for their designation (power bank), but no such short Russian was invented for them. Most often, the name "external battery" is used, but there are also longer ones: "universal external battery", "portable external battery", "portable charger". And in everyday life they are often called simply "power banks" ("power banks"). So they will be called in our review (for brevity).

Today we will conduct a mass test of eight devices with medium and high power reserves (with a capacity of 5000 mAh and more).

They are all different manufacturers (Chinese, of course). And although the circuitry and technical solutions are largely standardized here, the devices still turned out to be different. And what unites them is that they are all officially supplied to the Russian Federation. And this is a good sign: importers do not want problems with sales and claims from "retail", so they test product samples before purchasing a batch.

And so that the test results are perceived correctly, I will begin the review by setting out several almost obvious postulates that are valid for all external batteries without exception:

  1. All "power banks" contain a battery charge controller and an output voltage converter (since the output voltage is not equal to the voltage of the battery (s) used there, and it must be raised or lowered). The need for conversion (in a typical case - to a voltage of 5 V) is the main source of loss of efficiency (losses on key transistors, on rectifier diodes, on the resistance of coil elements, etc.).
  2. The nominal capacity of the battery installed in it is indicated as the capacity of "power banks", and not supplied to the load (which is always less, since the efficiency of the converter cannot be one hundred percent).
  3. The nominal capacity of the battery inside the "powerbank" may not coincide with the actual one - like all radio elements, the batteries have a nominal tolerance. Usually no one indicates the tolerance value, but it can be taken for about +/- 10% (this also depends on the manufacturer's conscientiousness).

These postulates lead to the conclusion that it would be naive to hope for a full charge of the phone, for example, with a 4000 mAh battery, using a portable battery with a capacity of the same 4000 mAh. This can happen in absolutely fantastic cases, when the capacity of the battery installed in the "powerbank" due to the technological spread was significantly higher than the nominal value. And there is no "cheat" in this: this is physics!

A few words about determining the efficiency of devices in the "fast charging" mode (when the output voltage rises above 5 V) and the difference from the calculation in the "normal mode". In normal mode (supply voltage 5 V), the smartphone battery in most cases is charged with exactly the current that comes from the outside (with small losses in the controller). But in the "fast charging" mode, the incoming power is converted to the current and voltage of charging the smartphone battery, which is optimal for this without harming the battery. That is, the incoming power is used almost to the maximum.

In this regard, the efficiency for the normal mode was calculated as the ratio of the given capacity of the "power bank" to its face value. If the manufacturer overestimates the capacity in the parameters, then he will ruin his own reputation by reducing the efficiency. And for the "fast charging" mode, the efficiency was determined by the transferred energy in Watt-hours (the transferred capacity was multiplied by the voltage at the output of the "powerbank" in this mode).

The energy of the device under test was also determined from the rating of the "powerbank", and the value of 3.7 V was taken as the battery voltage.

Specifications and test program

Below are two tables with the characteristics of the tested models. The first shows the parameters of conventional "power banks" (with a capacity of 5,000 - 6,600 mAh), and the second - with an increased capacity (from 10,000 mAh).

Most of the presented devices are based on modern lithium-polymer batteries with a "flat" design and high energy density. An exception is the Anker and ADATA models; judging by the shape of the case, they use standard cylindrical batteries. Lithium-polymer batteries are a modern modification of lithium-ion batteries, in which the characteristics are improved: in addition to increasing the energy density, the number of charge-discharge cycles is increased and the self-discharge value is reduced.

The "Price" column contains the recommended retail prices and average prices based on the Russian retail data. In reality, for different retail outlets, there is a very wide range of prices (greed does not know borders), so this data is an extremely approximate guideline; do not misunderstand me.

The discharge of "power banks" to the load was tested in two modes: at the maximum permissible output current and at a current of 1 A (this is how much a "typical" smartphone consumes when charging). For models with support for "fast charging", we tested the mode with the maximum permissible current when the output voltage was set to 12 V. In addition, we tested the operation at low load (50 mA), which, ideally, should not be perceived as a complete disconnection of the load; and, accordingly, the automatic shutdown of the device should not work.

In all tested portable batteries, short circuit protection worked successfully, not a single device was burned. Other "automatic" functions also worked successfully: turning on when the load is connected, turning off when the load is disconnected.

To charge the "power banks", a charger with an output voltage of 5 V and a given current of up to 3 A was used, which was supposed to meet the needs of any of the heroes of the review. For the "purity of the experiment", the shortest of the cables was used when charging - 18 cm (for the HIPER EP6600, an exception had to be made, more details below).

To control the electrical parameters, we used a USB tester and a QC2.0 / QC3.0 “fast charging” emulation board connected in series:

The emulation board was used only to test the “fast charging” mode; when testing the standard mode (5 V), it was excluded from the circuit. Also, a check was carried out in "combat work" - real charging a smartphone with a weak autonomy (and therefore the situation with its feeding from the "power bank" is very vital).

The difference between real powering smartphones and laboratory tests with a fixed load current is in two factors. First, the charging current of real devices is not constant (as a rule, it is higher than the average current at the beginning of charging and lower at the end). Secondly, during charging, the device works and therefore energy consumption continues simultaneously with charging.

As a test smartphone, I chose my personal Sony. I always use it "outdoors" because it provides excellent navigation quality, acceptable photo quality, is hermetically sealed from water and is resistant to minor impacts. But his battery is modest - only 1,910 mAh, which is why in real life, when going out into nature, I definitely take a “powerbank” with me. The number of charges from the tested devices was checked. The result will be expressed as the sum of the percentage of charging the smartphone.

And, finally, the last point of the program - checking the charging of mobile devices "on the aisle", when the latter is connected to the "powerbank", and the latter is connected to the charger. If the mode is successful, both should be charged - both the external battery and the mobile device powered by it. This situation is not vital, but it is interesting.

Review Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 5000 NDY-02-AM

First, I will briefly list again

Capacity 5000 mAh
Output current 2.1 A
Weight 156 g
Dimensions 125.0 x 69.0 x 9.9 mm

Xiaomi Mi NDY-02-AM is the only one of the “small” portable batteries with a metal (aluminum) case presented in the review:

This model is made in a flat case with rounded sides and flat ends. In general, the look is austere but elegant. Note the rough surface, which will make the scratches that inevitably occur during use less noticeable.

On one of the ends there is information about the device, however, printed in a hard-to-read light gray font (in addition to the date of manufacture):

The other end contains the entire "control panel":

Everything is here: a control button, a charge level indicator of four white LEDs, a microUSB port for charging and a full-size USB port for connecting a charging device.

The battery level indicator does not work as usual. When charging the "power bank" it constantly glows as a "thermometer" of this process (everything is usual here). But when discharging to a charged device, the indicator behaves differently: it "blinks" at a large interval, and the number of blinking LEDs shows the level of residual charge.

The only button can be used mainly to control its own charge: pressing it "animates" the indicator. It is not necessary to use it to turn on the device in a "combat" application: thanks to automatic switching on when the load is connected, everything works by itself. And on shutdown it does not work at all. To do this, disconnect the load or wait until it is fully charged.

It should be noted that if the button does not turn off, then this is not a drawback of the device. Historically, in power banks, this button works to control the charge and turn it on (and many models do not have it at all). Therefore, the ability to turn off the device is the exception, not the rule. All other test subjects will also be affected.

Xiaomi Powerbank is one of the few participants in our test competition that supports charging "on the go". Simply put, it can be connected to a power source (for charging) and at the same time connected to a charged device (for example, a phone). This will charge both devices.

conclusions

Xiaomi has turned out, as always, a "classic of the genre". The device is not loaded with any excesses and does not try to portray something "fancy", but it works properly in all parameters and in a way familiar to the user. Also, many will like the nice metal body.

The only "but" is that our Chinese comrades have learned to counterfeit not only Apple and Samsung products, but also their own Xiaomi (because it is very popular). Therefore, when buying in questionable places, there is a chance to run into a battery "similar to Xiaomi".

Review Nobby Comfort NBC-PB-06-01

Main technical characteristics:

Capacity 6,000 mAh
Output current 2.1 A
Weight 155 g
Dimensions 131.0 x 71.0 x 14.5 mm

This "powerbank" came to us in a completely "Russified" package:

As a complete set, the box contains a microUSB cable and operating instructions:

The instruction in this case is a purely formal document (it just should be). Nothing interesting, except for the obvious things, is described in it.

The cable is rather short, 30 cm. But it is made this way not because the manufacturer feels sorry for the wires, but because the short cable has less resistance and, accordingly, less losses. This remark also applies to all other tested devices.

The Nobby model received a dark blue plastic case with a pleasant soft-touch surface:

The main feature that distinguishes it from the rest of our review is the presence of a digital battery charge indicator (visible in the upper right corner of the photo). This will allow the user to better navigate the current state of the external battery.

Outwardly, it seems that the "powerbank" is inserted into a blue case and can be pulled out from there. But alas, this is not the case. What looks like a blue case is an integral part of the case and nothing can be pulled out of it. You can also find some similarity in the shape of the device with a lighter, only very large.

The powerbank case is distinguished by the rounding of all corners and edges, in addition to the end on which the “control panel” is located (it is flat):

The "control panel" is extremely simple: a microUSB connector for charging, a full-size USB for discharging and a control button, which, as in the previous case, is not required at all (but can be useful for monitoring the device's status). The latter works only to turn on and control the battery charge.

Of the features, it should be noted that when charging the "powerbank" itself, it charged up to 95% at a normal speed (in about four hours), and the last 5% gained slowly (it took him another hour and a half). And if time is limited, waiting for a full charge is not necessary, 95% is also not bad.

Measurement results of technical parameters:

Device model Nobby Comfort NBC-PB-06-01
Rated capacity 6,000 mAh
Accepted charge 6,061 mAh
Charging duration 4 hours 01 minutes (up to 95%)
Average charging current 1.51 A
4 422 mAh; 73.7%
4.55V
The given capacity is 5 V / 1 A; Efficiency 4517 mAh; 75.3%
Voltage in 5 V / 1 A mode 4.66V
Number of smartphone charges 1 910 mAh 220%
Supports "light load" 50 mA there is
On-the-go charging support there is

conclusions

The device, like the previous Xiaomi battery, completely and without problems fulfills its functions, including work with low load and charging "on the go".

Of the advantages, two additional features should be noted. The first and foremost is a digital charge indication. This is not only pleasant, but also useful, as it gives the consumer more accurate information than a standard "thermometer" of four LEDs. The second positive feature is the case based on soft-touch plastic. Many users like this material and it competes successfully with metal cases.

There are no obvious drawbacks, but those features that we usually call "may not suit" include a long set of the last 5% of the charge. Basically, most lithium-powered devices slow down charging at the end, but here the slowdown is stronger than usual.

HIPER EP6600 Review

Main technical characteristics:

Capacity 6 600 mAh
Output current 2.1 A (5 V)
Weight 140 g
Dimensions 141.0 x 71.0 x 8.0 mm

There is nothing special in the technical characteristics, but in the external design there is:

This "powerbank" is enclosed in a glossy plastic case in the shape of an ordinary smartphone, but the drawing of the front side puzzled me: I could not immediately identify what kind of pattern it was.

The answer came after turning it on:

Before us is the silhouette of a black cat. When the device is turned on (in any way - for charging or discharging), cat's eyes glow and inform the owner that the device is "in use".

In this case, the eyes also "blink". The blinking stops when the device is fully charged in charging mode. And the level of the current battery charge is also displayed by them. The larger it is, the more the eyes are "open" (there are four levels of "opening").

This powerbank model is available in several designs, but cat eyes are present in all versions. In contrast to the front side, there is nothing interesting on the back side, except for the technical parameters:

A simple external battery control panel is on the upper edge:

There are a control button (optional, as in previous cases), a full-size USB connector (for connecting a charged device) and a microUSB connector for charging the "powerbank" itself. The control button works fully - on, off and charge control.

Control of technical parameters gave the following results:

Device model HIPER EP6600
Rated capacity 6 600 mAh
Accepted charge 6 476 mAh
Charging duration 5 hours 42 minutes
Average charging current 1.14 A
The given charge is 5 V / 2.1 A; Efficiency 4 329 mAh; 65.6%
Voltage in 5 V / 2.1 A mode 4.76V
The given capacity is 5 V / 1 A; Efficiency 4441 mAh; 67.3%
Voltage in 5 V / 1 A mode 4.90V
Number of smartphone charges 1 910 mAh 216%
Supports "light load" 50 mA there is
On-the-go charging support No

This model does not support on-the-fly charging: when connected to a power source, the connected mobile device stops charging.

The initial attempt to charge the powerbank with a short cable (18 cm) had to be interrupted, since the charging current at the beginning of the process was 2.64 A. This value exceeded the charge current declared for the device of 2 A. The problem was solved by connecting a longer cable (1 m), which introduced additional losses into the circuit, and the current at the beginning of the charge dropped to 1.26 A.

In reality, this problem may not be encountered by all users, since its manifestation will depend on the charger used.

conclusions

Despite the "toy" look, the HIPER model is quite capable of giving the necessary amount of charge to the phone. The relatively low value of the efficiency is compensated by the slightly increased value of the battery capacity in comparison with other participants in our "competition".

The pluses include an interesting design with "cat's eyes". This design is unusual and eye-catching. And the disadvantages are the excess of the charge current when using a "short" cable, which can have a bad effect on the battery life cycle. The problem is easily solved, but the manufacturer does not warn about it.

Canyon CNS-TPBP5DG Review

Main technical characteristics:

Capacity 5000 mAh
Output current 2.0 A (5 V)
Weight 128 g
Dimensions 138.2 x 69.2 x 9.4 mm

Most sites for this "powerbank" for some reason indicate the dimensions and weight in the package. Therefore, here are our own measurements.

The body of the device is plastic, with a matte surface, while the top and bottom sides are different colors. The upper side is lighter:

And the lower side, respectively, is darker:

The controls and connectors of the device are spaced along different side faces.

On one of the wide side faces there is a control button (also not very necessary) and a charge indicator:

The control button, even if it is not really needed (thanks to the automatic on-off switch), works fully functional: both on and off.

And on the opposite side there is a microUSB connector for charging a "powerbank":

There are three more connectors at the end: two full-size USB outputs for charging connected devices and a Lightning connector for charging a power bank:

Thus, the Canyon model received two inputs and two outputs. Moreover, the inputs for charging it are different: microUSB and Lightning, which will allow charging with any of these types of cables.

At the same time, it is advisable for the user to pay attention to the fact that connecting two powerful devices for charging simultaneously can exceed the maximum permissible output current of the "powerbank" and cause a decrease in voltage at its outputs (or triggering of protection).

Control of technical parameters gave the following results:

Device model Canyon CNS-TPBP5DG
Rated capacity 5000 mAh
Accepted charge 5 111 mAh
Charging duration 4 hours 55 minutes
Average charging current 1.04 A
The given charge is 5 V / 2 A 3,532 mAh; 70.6%
Voltage in 5 V / 2 A mode 4.73V
The given capacity is 5 V / 1 A 3 784 mAh; 75.7%
Voltage in 5 V / 1 A mode 4.93
Number of smartphone charges 1 910 mAh 191%
Supports "light load" 50 mA there is
On-the-go charging support No

This external battery does not support charging devices "on the go". When it connects itself to charging, the output power is cut off.

conclusions

This model is equipped with two charging inputs (this can be noted as a plus) and two outputs for discharging to the load. The last fact we can write down as "pluses" only conditionally - the simultaneous connection of two powerful devices (for example, smartphones with capacious batteries), the "powerbank" may not approve, the output current is not so high for this. It is better to recharge such gadgets one by one.

Of the conditional "minuses" we can note the most simple plastic case (which had a positive impact on the price of the device).
