Preparing to install and reinstall Windows

For ease of understanding, I will highlight the following stages of preparing a computer for installing / reinstalling Windows:

Make copies of all necessary files / folders stored on the computer.

You need to perform the actions of this stage if you have any necessary files, folders on your hard drive on your computer (in old Windows, in other words). In this case, I highly recommend saving all this somewhere, for example, to an external USB hard drive or to some online storage, and only when everything that you need is definitely saved, you can proceed to reinstall Windows! This procedure is necessary due to the fact that during installation Windows is better just format the local disk on which it will be installed (or even all disks), which entails deleting all data from it.

You will not need this stage of preparation for the installation or reinstallation of Windows and you can proceed immediately if:

Keep in mind that you can only save all your files and document folders! Transfer any programs that are already installed on your system to the new one installed Windows will not work, except for programs that worked for you without installation (the so-called portable versions).

After you have copied everything you need from hard disk computer, you can proceed to the next step.

If you just need to reinstall Windows 8, 8.1 or Windows 10, then we stop at this stage.

This stage will be needed by those who just need to reinstall the existing one on windows computer 8, 8.1 or Windows 10. All of these systems support full reinstallation right from their interface and there is no need to reinstall from a disk or flash drive.

The possibility of such a simple reinstallation is found in the system parameters "Update and recovery":

In this case, you do NOT need to follow the next steps, just read it and you can run the reinstallation.

This stage is not suitable for you and you need to go if:

1. If necessary, write the operating system to a disk or USB flash drive.

   If you bought an operating system, then you don't have to record anything, since Windows will already be in your hands on a disk or flash drive, and in this case, go.

   If you don't have Windows on a disk or flash drive, then you will need to write the required version of Windows (or several at once) to a disk or flash drive.

   However, not always and not everyone succeeds in writing Windows to a USB flash drive for various reasons. In this case, you can use the old proven method - write Windows to disk, for example, according to this instruction:

   Start Windows Setup!

   This is the final step in preparing your computer for installing or reinstalling Windows. If you already have a disk or flash drive with Windows on hand, then it's time to start the installation.

   Attention!
   The installation / reinstallation of Windows cannot be interrupted, otherwise it will not boot later due to an error and will have to be reinstalled, wasting another half an hour of time. Therefore, if you have a laptop, I recommend connecting the battery right away, but if you have a regular stationary computer, then just do not interrupt the installation process yourself. Also, do not pull on power cords or connect or disconnect various devices from the computer.

   Now we need to boot the computer from the disk or flash drive where Windows is located in order to start the installation process.

   Since by default the computer always boots from the hard disk (i.e. Windows is always loaded because it is installed on the computer's hard disk), we will have to choose another device to boot the computer, namely the disk or flash drive where Windows is recorded.

   In order to configure the boot of a computer from a disk or flash drive, you often have to go into the BIOS - this is a separate subsystem that contains the settings for the computer's hardware and which performs testing, and is also responsible for the order and sequence of computer boot.

   Do not be alarmed, because I have already prepared a separate instruction for booting a computer from a disk or flash drive that you can.

   After reading this manual, you should be able to start the computer from your disk or flash drive, which contains Windows.

   After you boot from a disk or flash drive, the message "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD ..." should appear on a black screen in white letters in the upper left corner:

   This inscription means that you need to press any key on the keyboard to boot from disk (it will be the same when booting from a USB flash drive). You need to quickly press any key, for example, Enter, otherwise after 3 seconds the inscription will disappear and you will have to restart the computer and boot from the disk / flash drive again.

Sooner or later in the life of every PC user, there comes a time when you have to reinstall Windows. There can be many reasons for this, for example, an outdated system, viruses that an antivirus cannot defeat, a large number of system errors that are easiest to eliminate by reinstalling the OS.

Today we will walk you through step by step how to reinstall the Windows operating system and avoid data loss.

Preparing to reinstall Windows

Windows 7 will be used as an example in this article. Basically, you can install other versions, both old and new, using the same scheme. Before proceeding to reinstall Windows, you need to take a few preparatory steps. To begin with, you must clearly understand that your actions endanger the safety of your data, so if you are not sure of your actions, it is worth asking for help from another person for these purposes.

First of all, copy important information to a USB flash drive, hard drive or any other medium. It can be photographs, music, documents - in general, everything that is very dear to you. Be sure to check the files in the folders Documents, Downloads, on Desktop... If your hard drive is divided into two partitions, or your system has two disks, make sure that all important information is saved on the D: drive. installing WIndows you need to pay attention to the size of the disk on which the system is installed, so as not to accidentally erase the second disk.

Preparing bootable media

After that, you need to prepare a bootable USB flash drive or disk. Do not complete this step if you have a system disk or other media. Personally, I use the shareware UltraISO program, with an intuitive interface, to create bootable USB drives for various purposes.

It is also important to determine which version you want to use and if you will have problems activating the license. Windows not only differs in the year of release, but also in the bitness of its operating system. It is good if you have a disc with a system from the manufacturer, otherwise you will have to decide in advance on the version of the operating system. If you have installed rAM 4GB and higher, it makes sense to use a 64-bit system.

Reboot to BIOS

Next, you need to restart your computer and enter the BIOS. To do this, you should use both the DEL, F2 buttons, and others provided by the manufacturer of your laptop. In it you need to select a boot device. This can be a floppy drive, a USB device, depending on where the system image is located. If on a flash drive, then select USB (the flash drive must be inserted), save the settings and restart the computer.

System installation process

Your computer will boot up and run the system setup program. Everything is relatively simple here. Follow the instructions of the installer. The installation process is divided into several stages, after each completion a checkmark will appear opposite.

Please note that during installation you will be offered a menu for selecting a disk for installing the operating system. You can either delete all existing partitions or format only the C partition without deleting the information from the D partition:

When the first step is completed, the computer will restart. At this point, you need to start the BIOS again and install a bootable hard disk or remove the media with the image. Save the settings again and restart the computer. The installation will continue.

Upon completion of all steps, you will receive a clean, brand new system. All that remains is to perform the basic setup of the system. Please note that everything previously installed programs will be deleted irrevocably, and if you do not take care of saving important data, there is a risk of losing it forever.

If you have installed a pirated version, then it is quite possible that it will already contain basic drivers and a minimum set of necessary (and even harmful) programs. If not, you will have to look for it all yourself. It is best to download drivers from the official Microsoft sites, as well as from the sites of the manufacturers of your PC components.
