I really like the tablet, I bought myself about a week ago. I was choosing between the new iPad and Tab. I chose Samsung, because it supports flash, a lot of video formats (including avi), bluetooth is normally organized here, unlike Aypada: Yes, and the camera is also good. Movies are convenient to watch (well, this is most likely on all tablets with such a diagonal and resolution). Yes, I almost forgot, you can still insert a USB flash drive into the tablet, but not in the Aypad (this, of course, not everyone needs, but for me it is desirable). + You can put a SIM card (well, that's understandable, I bought a model with 3g). good, juicy colors, especially when you watch movies in high quality. The sound is good, loud, pleases the presence of a video editor, photo editor, the presence of an equalizer. It's also cool that there is a function to select the speed of music playback. Well, there is still

Quite smart, movies without brakes, including TV via ALL Share via WiFi - LAN. I haven't tried Full HD and I'm not going to, there is a PC, LAN and an external HDD for this.

I haven't found any flaws yet, I hope there won't be any. :) Although, there is one drawback, but this is not a drawback of the device, but a lack of equipment - too short a usb cable, when I connect it to a computer, I have to put the tablet on the computer table, that is, it takes up space and interferes with working with a mouse and keyboard. the disadvantage pales against the background of the merits.

It often freezes, you can't play heavy toys on it, sometimes it crashes. The camera is not good, but this is normal for a tablet.

If we talk about the shortcomings, then most likely they are associated with the system, and not with the tablet, that is, the problems of Android. Therefore, it is not appropriate to write about them here.
The only drawback, in my opinion, is the absence of a full-fledged USB port and an unsuccessfully located universal port (below). For instance; it is very inconvenient to use the tablet while it is charging or with a USB adapter connected to it, which, by the way, is purchased separately.

Barely noticeable slowdowns with prolonged use

About a year ago, Samsung unveiled its "answer to the iPad 2" with new models in the Galaxy line. Unlike Apple's tablet, the first "tabs" were offered with two different screen sizes - 8.9 and 10.1 inches. In addition, modifications with 7 and 7.7 inches diagonals appeared a little later. The models were equipped with different amounts of memory. A year later, it's time to update the line. New items are offered in only two screen sizes - with diagonals 10.1 or 7 inches. They differ from their predecessors in a lower price, a fixed amount of internal memory (16 GB for all versions) and support for flash memory cards up to 32 GB. In addition, there are changes in the appearance of tablets and innovations in functionality.

There is no doubt about the prospects of Android OS in comparison with iOS as a more "open" platform, but will Samsung already be able to compete on equal terms with Apple in the struggle for the "tablet" segment of the market? We mentioned a couple of advantages of the new "tabs". We will try to walk through the rest of the strengths and weaknesses of the tablets in our review.

Appearance

The appearance of the new generation models has undergone minor changes, but they are still present. Speakers appeared on the front surface. They are located on the sides of the screen at the top of the case. The back of the device is made of gray matte plastic (the previous model had glossy plastic on the back).

Comparing the dimensions, you can see that the new model has become a little thicker and gained 23 grams in weight, apparently due to the speakers. However, it remains 34 grams lighter than the new iPad 3.

The build quality raises no objections. Potential buyers of the device, who feared that for the sake of reducing the price, the manufacturer uses lower-quality materials for the case or will bring build quality for the sake of cheapness, we will calm down. The model is perfectly assembled from the same materials as its predecessor.

Above the screen on the right is a camera and a light sensor. There is also a camera on the back. The power button, volume control, memory card slot, headphone audio output and SIM card slot are located on the top end. On the bottom one will find a microphone and a connector for connecting a charging cable.

Screen

The new model received virtually the same display as its predecessor. Samsung has not pleased with anything new and revolutionary. The resolution of the screen with a diagonal of 10.1 inches is 1280x800 pixels, the PLS-LCD technology is used, which is one of the varieties of IPS-matrix. Sensor type - traditional, capacitive. There is support for 10 simultaneous gestures. The screen is covered with Gorilla Glass - it will be difficult to scratch it, and it pleases.

The viewing angles are quite decent, and only at maximum tilt does the image acquire some purple tint. The brightness is adjusted not only automatically using a light sensor, but also manually. It is impossible to say unequivocally that "Tab" is brighter or dimmer than the new iPad. The displays of competing tablets are quite comparable in terms of brightness.

Speed

If the screen of the tablet has remained practically the same, then Samsung has made changes to the "stuffing" of the tablet. The company replaced the previous NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor with the Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 chipset, which is equipped with such devices as the Amazon Kindle Fire, Blackberry Playbook, LG Prada 3.0. There is also a PowerVR SGX540 graphics chip and 1 GB random access memory - almost all modern powerful toys will go with a bang. Compared to the Galaxy Tab 7.7, which stands alone, in terms of performance, the second "tabs" look a little worse, but in a number of indicators they surpass the previous model on NVIDIA Tegra 2, in particular, due to the use of the ARM-Cortex A9 core with a SIMD command processing unit, allowing to increase the speed of the dual-channel LPDDR2 memory controller (as opposed to the single-channel used on NVIDIA Tegra 2).

Battery

The tablet uses a 7000mAh lithium polymer battery. According to the manufacturer's assurances, the device will hold a charge for 2000 hours in standby mode. In working mode, it turned out that the tablet "suffices" for 7 hours of operation at maximum display brightness and the included 3G module. In the mode of periodic use of 3G or Wi-Fi, average screen brightness, watching one movie and a couple of hours of listening to music, the tablet worked for 8 hours. That is, roughly speaking, the battery allows you to actively use the device for one day. Not a bad result, although not outstanding.

The tablet computer is charged only from the mains, which is understandable. Charging with a small current from a computer would take a whole day, while from an outlet the device fully charges in 3.5 hours.

The tablet has a power saving mode that allows you to change the settings for the processor and display to reduce power consumption. But as it turned out after a week of testing, using the mode does not give any tangible results, and practically does not increase the operating time on one charge.

Mobile internet and data transmission

Unlike the first "tab", the new device allows making calls, as they say, "out of the box". That is, it does not require the installation of any additional software. You can have a conversation with or without a wireless headset.

The device operates in 2G networks (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 standards), as well as 3G using HSDPA + technology (data transfer rate up to 21 Mbps) and HSUPA (up to 5.76 Mbps).

There is support for Bluetooth 3.0 with support for the extended A2DP profile for transmitting stereo sound, for example, to wireless headphones. And of course, you can also access the Internet via Wi-Fi from your tablet or "distribute" the Internet using this wireless module as a Wi-Fi Hotspot access point.

We will also mention the presence of a proprietary USB 2.0 connector. It is used only for transferring files from a computer or for charging from the mains. To connect a USB flash drive, mouse or keyboard, you need to use a special adapter, which you will have to buy separately.

Cameras

The device has two cameras. The front one has a resolution of 0.3 megapixels for video calls and the main one on the back is 3.2 megapixels. It doesn't have autofocus or flash. On the previous device, the front camera was equipped with a resolution of 2 megapixels, and the main one had an autofocus function and LED-backlight.

And although in comparison with its predecessor, the characteristics of the cameras look worse, the rear camera has proven itself well in operation. In good lighting conditions, there is practically no noise in the photo, the automatic white balance works decently. Clarity and color reproduction for a resolution of 2048x1536 (maximum camera resolution) are satisfactory.

The camera interface is intuitive. At the top of the screen on the right is the photo / video switch, as well as activating the shutter and going to the gallery. On the left - front / external camera switch, shooting mode selection, timer, brightness (from -2 to +2), settings. The location of all these icons can be changed.

Videos can be shot in 720p (1280x720) resolution at 30 frames per second.

Interface

The tablet runs on Android Ice cream Sandwich 4.0.3 platform. Differences from the interface from previous version Software, Honeycomb 3.2, which was installed on the first "tab", it is possible to distinguish widgets, the size of which the user can change at his discretion (stretch to size), a more "transparent" design of wallpaper and working words (dark colors were replaced with easier to read light colors) and an increased number of all kinds of S-services (Samsung branded applications).

The tablet has a lot of both useful widgets and not so much. For inexperienced users, let's say that widgets are interfaces through which information is delivered to the device from any network resource (weather forecast, news feed, email client), and which displays any brief information (news headlines or notifications about new letters).

There are many preinstalled Samsung software. These are numerous S-services: branded application store (Samsung Apps), game hub (Game Hub), pre-installed games. They are unlikely to be of interest to most users, because all of them have much more convenient and popular counterparts. In general, the installation of such programs looks like an obvious marketing move for the promotion of services - there will be little real benefit to the user.

There is also a preinstalled third-party software: Yandex services and a number of useful programs, such as the Polaris Office application, an application for paying for online services Ubank, as well as a simple video editor and photo editor.

As we have already said, unlike the first "tab", the current model allows you to make calls. Of course, few people will put a 10-inch tablet to their ear, but with the help of a headset, the device may well act as a replacement for a phone, and in some cases will make it possible to get by with only one device, especially since the user-friendly interface of the application allows the user, among other things, to send SMS ... It is possible to use both voice and handwriting input.

In the continuation of the review, we will separately go through the functions that will be most demanded by the user, and their corresponding applications.

Reading of books

For reading books, newspapers and magazines, it was already discovered installed application “Books and Press.” The integrated reading program is based on the popular FBReader application.

A set of free books is available that can be downloaded in one click, and in addition, you can purchase works in EPUB, PDF, etc. formats, paying for purchases from the account of the mobile Internet SIM card that you use in your tablet, or by SMS messages.

In the "Newspapers" subsection, you can get 7 free issues of the most popular Russian publications as a gift, and then, if you wish, subscribe to them for a fee.

Naturally, other programs can be used to read e-books. A great option among many popular applications is the beloved by many users Cool Reader, which can be downloaded for free from Google play... The advantages of the application are a user-friendly interface and support for all the most common e-book formats.

Games

Thanks to the excellent performance, there is no problem to enjoy video games. All toys (including AngryBirds, beloved by Russian deputies) work stably. The tablet's entertainment function is enhanced by a dedicated Game Hub app.

Samsung calls it the "Game Portal". In Game Hub, you can connect to popular games with social networksas well as play 3D HD video games.

Internet browser

The tablet, as usual, has its own browser, which, in comparison with the previous version of the device, has not undergone almost any changes. But he's not bad anyway. The set of settings has slightly expanded (items such as "Save for offline reading", for example, have appeared).

The browser is fast, tabbed, and scales web pages great. There is a function of displaying the sites you frequently visit (they are visible when you create a new tab).

post office

Mail client looks and works the same as in the previous version of the tablet. It is very convenient to attach photos from a camera or screenshots saved in the gallery to letters.

You can configure the client to work with any personal address, not just with a Google account. There is a separate app for Gmail.

Youtube

The tablet has a convenient application for quick access to the Youtube video service. Trending videos are sorted by topic on the left side of the screen. There is a convenient video search.

Video

A basic video player with support for a decent number of formats is installed. Supported codecs MPEG4, H.263, H.264, VC-1, DivX, WMV7, WMV8, WMV9, VP and video formats 3GP, ASF, AVI, MP4, WMV, FLV, MKV, WebM.

According to user reviews, not all formats are played without problems (there is video, but no sound, video slows down), but the standard player plays movies in AVI, MP4, FLV and 3GP perfectly. Therefore, if you watch videos in the most popular extensions, you can easily get by with a basic player. Picky users can choose an alternative to the preinstalled player, since there are a great many of them.

Films are selected with the ability to preview the video, by lists or by folders (by default, the "Video" folder view is set).

Music

The standard music player also pleases. Various playback modes, sorting and selection of music tracks are offered.

Navigation

The device has a GPS navigator. Installed several applications "Addresses", "Maps", "Locator", "Navigator", which work with GPS.

Keyboard
The keyboard is used in many applications, the layout is comfortable and has hardly changed in comparison with the previous version of the device.

A long press on each of the symbol keys calls up the complete symbol catalog. There is a separate button with a smiley face, which can also be held down to call up a full set of smileys.

Settings

The settings are almost the same as in the iPad. And this is a plus, since Apple's design looks like the most convenient option for such a section. The only difference from the previous version of Galaxy Tab is that the settings are divided into subsections "Network", "Device", "Personal" and "System". Previously, they were displayed as a simple long list. Our view, with subsections, has become visually more convenient.

Its streamlined and intuitive interface makes it easy to switch between apps of interest to the whole family. Innovative, easy-to-use features include enhanced gallery and spell checker. It's even easier to launch the pre-installed Google mobile services, including YouTube, Search, and Google Maps.

Performance and ease of use. Nobody likes to wait, but a powerful 1GHz dual-core processor will save you from this need: the tablet will meet the expectations of even the most active users who need fast work with multimedia content, including high-speed loading, high-quality playback, as well as fast web access. pages. Samsung GALAXY Tab 2 10.1 is not only thin and lightweight: its robust body is surprisingly durable and practical in everyday use. Your entire growing family of multimedia library can easily fit on a MicroSD card - the built-in slot supports cards up to 32GB.

And in this review we will look at the younger model of this family - Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), which has a 7-inch display, but the differences between the two tablets do not end there. So, first things first.

The Galaxy Tab 2 is very similar to its predecessor, the P1000 in the Galaxy Tab line. But it is worth noting that the thickness has decreased, now it is only 10.5 mm, and the surface has turned from a smooth gloss into a matte gray plastic. The height and width of the device are 193.7x122.4 mm, and the weight is only 344 grams. Despite the relative lightness of the device, it is very convenient to hold it in the hand.

On the front side there is a touchscreen display, and on the back there is a camera "eye".

The assembly is done at the proper level - there are no backlashes and creaks during operation.

Performance, operating system and applications

IN Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), like the 10.1-inch model, is equipped with a 2-core TI OMAP 4430 processor, which has clock frequency 1 GHz. RAM is provided with 1 GB, and built-in flash memory - 8, 16 or 32 GB, depending on the modification. This parameter can be increased, since there is a special slot for memory cards with a maximum capacity of 32 GB. Taken together, these parameters give a sufficiently high performance that can satisfy almost any, the most demanding user.

The tablet is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system with an integrated TouchWiz shell.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) has a standard set of applications: audio and video players, browser, e-mail client.

Of the communication capabilities, the gadget supports the operation of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth3.0, GPS modules, and, depending on the modification, may or may not have a 3G module.

Screen

The tablet is equipped with a 7-inch PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels. This makes the device worse than the Galaxy Tab 2 with a 10.1-inch display, where the resolution is 1280x800 pixels.

The viewing angles of the gadget are excellent, fading in the sun is not very strong. It should be noted that the image on the display is quite bright and of high quality.

The screen has a protective Gorilla Glass coating.

Camera

The Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) has a 3.1-megapixel camera that allows you to shoot at a maximum resolution of 2948x1536 pixels, with an autofocus function. Video recording can be carried out in Full HD format at 30 frames / second.

There is a front-facing 0.3 megapixel camera for video telephony.

Battery

The LI-Ion battery in the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), in contrast to the older 10.1-inch model, has a capacity of only 4000 mAh, so the device will last for a maximum of 5-7 hours with average intensive work.

Price

The cost of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) was not officially announced, but it became known that the price in European countries will be about 500 euros for a model with support for 3G networks and 400 euros without support for 3G networks.

As of May 25, 2012, the cost of the new item became known. The price for modifying the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) with memory will be 9,990 rubles (with Wi-Fi support) and 13,990 rubles (with Wi-Fi + 3G support).

Tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) video review:

Last year's Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 was a pretty successful model, selling well compared to other Android tablets. In fact, he had one significant drawback - the high price. It is not surprising that at the end of 2011 the device could no longer compete with much cheaper and at the same time quite high-quality new products (for example, the Amazon Kindle Fire).

In the winter of 2012, the Korean manufacturer announced the next generation Galaxy Tab. At first glance, we see only a slightly modified Galaxy Tab 10.1 sample of 2011, but sold at a lower price. Whether the advantages of the novelty are limited only by the democratic price in comparison with its predecessor, let's see in this review.

Samsung has released two Galaxy Tab 2 tablets - with 7 ″ and 10.1 ″ displays. Each of them is available in modifications only with the Wi-Fi module, as well as with Wi-Fi and 3G. We tested Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with only one wireless module.

Appearance

If it were not for a pair of long speakers on the front panel, the new product could easily be confused with its predecessor. Other differences are noticeable if you look a little more closely. These include, for example, lateral "Influxes" made of gray plastic, the absence of a flash next to the main camera, a slightly changed design of the lid - the insert in the upper part is now not so pronounced and the photo module eye is located under it, and not on the insert itself, as was the case with the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The tablet is still completely plastic, but the texture of the material has changed. If earlier it was not a very practical gloss, now the coating is matte, much more resistant to the appearance of prints. because of "Metal" shade it may seem that the cover is made of metal, but in fact it is plastic - you just need to take the device in your hands to understand this.

All hardware control buttons are concentrated on the top (if you hold the tablet in landscape orientation) end. There is a power button and a double volume rocker. The latter, by the way, is made in the form of a one-piece button, so it is not always convenient to decrease or increase the volume of the sound - to be sure you have to press the very edge (left or right) of the keys. To the right is a microSD card slot hidden behind a plastic flap and a 3.5 mm audio jack. The 3G version also has a SIM slot on the top.
Below is a microphone and a wide proprietary connector. We can also mention the camera for video calls, located above the screen. That's all, the design of the tablet is laconic, as, indeed, most other Android-brothers.

In terms of dimensions, the novelty is almost a complete copy of the first Galaxy Tab 10.1. The successor is perhaps "Got fat" per millimeter (up to 9.7 mm) and is heavier by less than 20 grams (583 g). When using a tablet, these changes are not felt, and the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is still comfortable to work with due to its thinness and acceptable weight.

The assembly of the model could be called flawless, if not for one "but"... The fact is that the device that got to the tests in the upper left corner slightly moved away from the case safety glass display. Surely this is a problem of a particular instance; commercial samples of Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 should not have such a defect. Otherwise, there are no complaints about the tablet: the buttons are pressed moderately tightly, the microSD port cover sits tightly, the non-removable cover does not play.

Display

The novelty is equipped with a 10.1 ″ display with a resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels. The previous generation tablet screen had exactly the same characteristics. The manufacturer specified that the matrix is \u200b\u200bmanufactured using PLS (Plane-to-Line Switching) technology. In fact, this is a less expensive alternative to IPS, so its main advantages are high viewing angles and good, natural color reproduction. They say the PLS has a lower contrast ratio, but in practice you can't say that the screen lacks contrast.

Overall, the display experience is roughly the same as that of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The still strangely working automatic backlight has even been inherited: when the corresponding option is activated, the brightness is objectively not enough. So it's best to set the backlight level to maximum - then the information is well read both indoors and in the sun.

It makes no sense to dwell on the camera in detail, but it is worth saying a few words about it. For some reason, Samsung decided to install a very modest 3-megapixel photo module in the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and without autofocus and flash. The camera of last year's model also did not differ in special quality, but at least it had autofocus and a flash. Apparently, the developer was guided by the consideration that there will be very few people willing to take pictures using a tablet.

Interface, functionality

The main difference between the new item and its predecessor is a new version operating system from Google. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 runs Android 4.0.3, while "Old man" was content with Honeycomb.

It makes no sense to dwell on the Ice Cream Sandwich interface in detail, we examined its main elements in aSUS review Eee Pad Transformer Prime. You can only note the convenient screenshot button located in the lower left corner next to the virtual keys "Back home" and "Multitasking"... If you click on it, the system will take a screenshot and open it for editing in the photo editor. At the bottom of each of the desktops is a panel with icons of applications for quick launch... The number and set of programs can be changed, and the panel can be hidden by clicking on the arrow.

As part of the proprietary TouchWiz interface, Samsung offers a set of wallpapers. Note that setting an animated image as a background negatively affects the speed of the UI - the shell starts to slow down noticeably, which is practically not observed with ordinary wallpaper.

Traditionally for mobile devices The Korean manufacturer has several branded and third-party widgets and applications in the tablet. One of the most useful (especially considering the large screen) is the Polaris Office program. With proper skill, it is quite possible to type texts in it - even if not as fast as on a computer with a full-fledged keyboard, but if necessary, the application can come in handy. For example, the news was written using Polaris Office without much difficulty.

Also interesting are the built-in photo editor, S Memo notes and S Planner notes - useful and multifunctional for devices of this kind.

Performance and battery

The novelty is built on a TI OMAP4430 dual-core processor, clocked at 1 GHz. IN Arsenal the tablet also houses a PowerVR SGX 540 graphics accelerator and 1 GB of RAM. Testing passed samsung model Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with 16GB storage.

Last year's Galaxy Tab was also based on a dual-core chip, but back then it was Nvidia Tegra 2. Did the hardware change affect performance a lot? Judging by the results in benchmarks, the performance of the new product remained at the level of its predecessor: in some tests the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is slightly faster, in others it is a couple of points behind.

In any case, the tablet's performance is sufficient for everyday tasks. Videos in Full HD resolution, modern 3D games - all this device successfully "Digests"... Noticeable slowdowns appear only when installing the above-mentioned animated wallpaper. However, even without them, the interface can sometimes "Think" for a split second.

The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is equipped with a 7000 mAh battery. The same battery was used in the first Galaxy Tab 10.1. Maybe changing the hardware platform somehow affected the power consumption of the tablet? With continuous playback of a video in Full HD resolution, with maximum screen brightness and Wi-Fi turned off, one charge lasted for almost six and a half hours. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 demonstrated approximately the same result.

Thus, in terms of performance and battery life between "Old" and new tablets - absolute parity, even despite the different chips.

Conclusion

The closer you get to know the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, the more often the saying comes to mind that everything new is well forgotten old. The tablet of the 2011 sample can hardly be called old, but over the year the situation on the market for such devices has changed markedly. Samsung has had to adjust to the new rules of the game, and the updated Galaxy Tab is a product that plays by those rules.

In fact, the considered model differs little from its predecessor: the same specifications (the change of the hardware platform did not affect the performance and capabilities of the device in any way), identical battery life. Unless the novelty got a worse camera, but this was to some extent compensated by the installation of good speakers - loud and clear sound can be heard from them.

The main and in fact the only advantage of the tablet is its relatively low price. The first Galaxy Tab 10.1 cost about $ 1000 at the start, while the second generation is sold for almost half the price.
