During this year I have written several articles on the topic of unlocking and flashing 3G modems to work under different telecom operators - at first I wrote about HUAWEI E160G , then about and ZTE MF180... It so happened that there were no more modems in my hands; there was no accurate, verified information about this or that method of unlocking a particular modem, the topic with modems has calmed down a bit.

Recently, just the other day, one of the commentators on the article about unlocking the modem HUAWEI E1550(you can look at the overview of the modem, for example, at mobile-review.com).

Earlier I did not talk about unlocking this modem, although I have such a modem from Megaphone, I was lying around unlocked.

To Ivan, for joy, I promised to tell how to unlock this modem, and yesterday I started to unlock it. After some passes with your hands and a minimum of using a tambourine, the modem was successfully unlocked! Now I am sharing this information with you, dear readers.

Previous modems, I set the goal of simply unlocking, without frills, only for working with Internet traffic, although as you know perfectly well, you can send and receive SMS and MMS via 3G modems, make and receive both regular and video calls, in general, this is a full-fledged communication, comparable to communication via mobile phone(in terms of technology).

Therefore on HUAWEI E173 I, at the beginning of the search, considered it necessary to find Connection manager(in English - dashboard), which supports internet, sms, mms, voice calls and video calls.

By the way - I found such firmware. But!!! Not only that it turned out - if the telecom operator MTS-Khabarovsk supports video calls, then the telecom operator Megafon-Khabarovsk does not, so it has not yet found ANY firmware on the HUAWEI E173, guaranteed with SMS-MMS, voice calls, Russian and Russian telecom operators.

As a result, at first I decided to spit on video calls, and focus on all of the above functions, except for video calls, and then, after unsuccessful tests for sending MMS, I scored on them too :)

As a result of tests and selections, one firmware was selected, which was actually installed.

Features of the selected Connection Manager(dashboard) : Russian interface, support for 4 Russian operators (MTS, Megafon, Beeline and TELE2) + the ability to manually add OWN OPERATOR profiles, the ability to make a voice call and receive a voice call (verified personally!) and the theoretical possibility of sending MMS (why do I use the word "theoretical?" - because not a single MMS can be sent from the 3G-modem, nor received from the phone to the 3G-modem.

Dig into the firmware settings - maybe you will be more fortunate and be able to find a solution to how to make MMS work ... Although whether this function is needed in a 3G modem is a big question ...).

As usual, I want to note that the unlocking information HUAWEI E173 I dug up quite a lot, but unfortunately, specific information, an order of actions, from a series "Screw nut A onto bolt B and tighten gently until it stops"(that is - step by step instructions how to unlock this modem) - I could not find such information. Some pieces, scraps of thoughts and a sea of links, in which "the devil will break his leg"!

So, especially for you - how to flash HUAWEI E173(using the example of the OPSOS Megaphone Far East). I am writing in as much detail as possible the procedure for unlocking and flashing, all windows are numbered in the sequence in which I saw and did them.

I must say right away that the unlocking operation is dangerous for the modem! There is a chance that the modem will stop working. You unlock at your own peril and risk, the author is not responsible for your actions. In general, the principle of unblocking HUAWEI E173 no different from HUAWEI E1550 and other HUAWEI brand modems, except for the files used to unlock, however, despite this, I had to tinker to unlock my modem.

At first, when I tried to flash the firmware of the modem (firmware), I saw a "fig"

This error was cured simply - I pulled out the modem, inserted it again and installed the Connection Manager (dashboard) from it.

In general, the procedure for installing a 3G modem is nothing unique, but you never know!- here it is in successive pictures:

Advice: If you did not install the built-in, "native" connection manager Megafon (or MTS, or Beeline) - then I VERY recommend you install it !!! If you don’t, then you will get an error that the modem was not found or you do not have administrator rights (which is what happened to me)!

This is explained by the fact that the native connection manager (dashboard) puts drivers for the modem into the system, with which the firmware can communicate with the modem and reflash it.

Then I successfully reflashed the Connection Manager (dashboard) to the one I needed, but to my great regret, when I inserted a SIM card from MTS, the modem wrote that it can only work with Megafon SIM cards.

This is what I struggled with longer. In the end, I found 2 treatments for this muck, here they are:

Option 1 - Connection Manager firmware (dashboard) from helpower.narod.ru. Just put the firmware from it and voila, when you first install the Connection Manager (dashboard), when you insert a non-native SIM card, a proud window flies out, see below:

We treat this by running the unlocker program(a program that generates a response NSK code according to your IMEI. In some places on the Internet they also ask for money for these codes, in what way!), I found 2 different ones, in general, who will like which one))) Here they are, unlockers in action:

1) Huawei_Modem_Unlocker

Option 2 - unlocker + NSK code. This is also a fairly effective solution, I think. The procedure is simple.

a) Checking with the utility Huawei_Modem_Unlocker_v1.1_by_Micro-BOX_TEAM - is the modem unlocked?

b) If unlocked - OK. If not unlocked, then with a utility Huawei_Modem_Unlocker or Huawei_Modem_Unlocker_S920_VodaShit according to the one indicated on the modem under the top cover, we generate the NSK code, then go back to Huawei_Modem_Unlocker_v1.1_by_Micro-BOX_TEAM, enter the NSK code in an empty field (there is only one, you will not miss it!) and press the button UNLOCK.

v) All is ready, modem successfully unlocked .

Steps to unlock HUAWEI E173 modem(tested on a Megafon modem, as I did personally):

1) Download necessary software and guides: original firmware(firmware) from HUAWEI -,

program for generating FLASH and NCK - codes by modem IMEI -,

Connection Manager software (dashboard) 1_huawei_e173_dashboard_utps_11.300.05.21.343_B416_v.3.17.00_by_helpower.narod.ru.exe + 2_huawei_e173_dashboard_utps_11.302.09.15.209_B416_3G Internet.exe and instructions for flashing the firmware and dashboard of the modem from Megafon - (download links - right after the instructions).

2) After everything you need is downloaded, we write off the IMEI code from the modem, run the program huawei_unloсker_by_souhail_gsm_and_maverick_lp28.exe and enter the previously written off IMEI, then click Unlock. Data like this will appear in a black window:

(that's an example, of course, in each case, the numbers will be different!)

We need data for flashing Souhail_gsmNck: 58304566 , save it!

ATTENTION! ALWAYS exit all programs, turn off the antivirus, the Internet. FLASHING is necessary WITHOUT SIM CARD and memory card!!! We extract everything from the modem !!!

It is highly advisable to flash on a laptop or netbook, or on a PC with an uninterruptible power supply - otherwise, in case of an emergency power outage, you risk losing your 3G modem !!!

3) Run the firmware file -huawei_e173_e173u-1_firmware_update_11.126.85.00.209_B427_win_mac.exe

If the firmware program IMMEDIATELY does not ask for the unlock code, then follow the instructions of the program, wait further (Next) and further, your entire path is sequentially shown on the screenshots below:

At the end of the installation, a message will fly out "Update Succeful! Your IMEI and current firmware model"

4) Disconnect the modem from the PC and reconnect. 5) After the firmware, remove the modem from the PC / laptop and insert it again. A window like this will fly out:

Introduce NSK code that we generated earlier.

Voila, the modem is jailbroken! It remains to install a convenient and pleasant Connection Manager!

6) Disconnect the modem from the PC and reconnect. Stitching Connection manager(dashboard) of our modem ONCE AGAIN, but with a DIFFERENT firmware, more successful!

7) READY! Your the modem has been successfully unlocked to work with any operators+you can add your own, local or new telecom operators!

Let's say under the settings of Tajikistan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Ukraine (Utel, Kyivstar, Beeline, Life) or for example, take a modem with you on a trip to another country, Finland, for example, and use it there with a local sim card?

I answer. There is least 3 ways:

1) Find a connection manager (dashboard) with local profiles of telecom operators and flash the modem. The advantages of this method - it will not be necessary to re-drive the data on access points when changing Windows or computers. Cons - there are very few such dashboards. I at least for HUAWEI E173 could not find any ...

2) Find the firmware, which has the ability to add your own operator profiles and drive in manually. Pros - any telecom operator can be driven in in a couple of minutes. Cons - you need to know the settings of the Internet access point of each operator you need, and after reinstalling the OS, all settings will, of course, be lost, and if the modem is transferred to another PC, they will also have to be driven in again. But, in general, the method is not bad.

For myself personally (although I have not had such a problem yet), I would choose path number 2 (especially since the current firmware recommended by me supports this option) - would drive in a new profile in 2 minutes and that's it, voila, a new telecom operator WORKS! :)

How to unlock an OLD Huawei modem?

If you have a relatively old model that you bought a couple of years ago, then you can unlock the modem by its IMEI - an individual number assigned by the manufacturer. It is easy to find it under the cover of the device.

Also, IMEI is usually found on a sticker or label included in the box with the modem. Now, by this number, we can get the unlock code of our megaphone modem, and we will get it using several programs from third-party developers.

Basically, all the "branded" modems on which the logos of mobile companies flaunt are actually produced by the Chinese company Huawei, so we will use the utilities specifically for the devices of this company.

Downloading the Huawei Modem program

We go to the site huawei.mobzon.ru and download one of the current versions of the program for working with Huawei modems. Choose any assembly - they differ only in functionality, you can read in detail about each of them directly on our website.

She will replace standard program from the operator, which was installed when the modem was first connected to the computer. Since you have already used it, it should have been installed, as well as the driver from the modem. If you removed them, you will need to reinstall it - for this, insert the device into the computer and confirm the installation. Or manually run the EXE file from the internal flash memory of the modem.

Also, before downloading, make sure that your specific model is supported - the list will be at the bottom of the page. And the model number of your modem is also usually indicated on the packaging or in the instructions.

So, if everything fits, download and install the program, then insert the modem with a new SIM card into the USB port of the PC and launch it.

A window should appear asking you to enter the unlock code.

In some models of modems, the same window appears when using the standard software from the operator.

Huawei Calculator Program

Fine! The first part of the epic is over, now we download another application called HuaweiCalculator. Unzip it on your computer and run it. In the first field, we need to enter the IMEI already known to us, and then generate several other ciphers by clicking on the "CALC" button.

Of all of them, we will need NCK - this is the unlock code of the modem, which will need to be entered into the same window in the first program. In my version, this value is “34994905” - let's remember it.

Huawei Modem Terminal

It happens that when connected to USB, the window for entering the unlock code described in step 1 does not automatically open. Then you will have to download another program - Huawei Modem Terminal to communicate with the modem through service commands.

Open it and select here the item labeled “HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G PC UI Interface” and press the “Connect” button.

After that, enter the “AT” command in the lower field in order to check the connection with the modem. In the main window, if the outcome is successful, an inscription should appear

“Send: AT
Recieve: OK ”

If yours is OK, it means that we can now control the modem using the so-called service AT commands.

There are actually a lot of them, but we need exactly those that are required to unlock the modem. Here they are (when writing commands, the quotation marks “” are required!):

On the last request, the modem displays the following results:

CARDLOCK: A, B, 0
A - “2” means that there is no symlock, “1” - if the modem is locked

B - the number of remaining unlock attempts.

The new modem has 10 of them.

In our example, the modem is locked (1) and there are still 10 attempts left, that is, no one has tried to unlock it before. It remains only to enter the code AT ^ CARDLOCK = "nck code", where "nck code" is the value of the same NSK code that was received earlier in Huawei program Calculator. I have it equal to “34994905”.

2 way to unlock - for OLD and NEW modems

For those models that are not supported by the previous program, there has recently been another one - Huawei Unlock Code Calculator. In addition to two unlock codes (V1 and V2), it also has a password for the firmware.

V1, or OLD Algo Unlock Code - unlock code for modems with old version firmware,
V2, or NEW Algo Unlock Code - for modems with new firmware.

Let's try to use this utility with my modem - enter IMEI and generate codes.

As you can see, the value “v1” coincides with what the previous program gave us - it is this that we need to use, since the modem is old and the firmware on it is also old.

3 way - universal PAID

Finally, for the very lazy who do not want to bother with finding the IMEI, determining the unlock code and other nonsense, there is one universal way which is suitable for most modems.
