Before PIXI, I had only one smartphone - Microsoft Lumia 535, and before Lumia I had good old LG KP500. I loved the latter very much, the telephone worked properly and endured all the hardships of life without a cover and, in general, any kind of accuracy on the part of the owner. People switched to smartphones a long time ago, and I still carried an old friend in conjunction with the ASUS Fonepad 7. It was not very convenient to carry the tablet all the time, after all, you can sit on social networks, listen to music and watch some short video on a small screen.
In the end, I firmly decided to buy myself a smartphone. The selection criterion was a balanced set of characteristics, budget (up to 10 thousand) "golden mean". There were enough options, but after an Android tablet I wanted to try the device on Windows Phone, so the choice fell on the Lumia. I bought it in the summer of 1915 and walked away literally three months, right up to the accident - I dropped it into the water. It was a sad moment, I really liked the gadget, even if its "axis" was a nightmare for "usability" - I think many people know all the numerous shortcomings of the "eight".
I wasn’t going to stay in the thriller directed by Microsoft anymore, the next smartphone was supposed to be on Android. For a while I walked with LG, and in the spring of 2016 I acquired the culprit of this story. The budget was very small, but the selection criteria remained the same - a balanced device for your money. I wanted to try a smaller screen diagonal, so that it would be convenient to use the smartphone on the road (listen to music and check messages without pulling your pocket), and so that it would be convenient to use it in the store (I often use a shopping list written in my notes).
The smartphone was bought in Beeline for 4000 rubles, initially it has a SIM-lock, so do not be lazy to ask for a jailbreak if you need another operator.
In total, there are several PIXI3 4.5-inches, they can be divided into two camps: with and without 4G. 3G will be simpler - less RAM, an older processor, and a smaller battery. In the 4G camp, you can choose between the two-symbol version and the one-symbol version. In this case, I will talk about the one-symbol variant (5017X).
Appearance
The package bundle is the most common: charger, USB cable, simple headphones. The latter are unlikely to fit for listening to music.
Remember the smartphone "templates" that are often shown in screenshots in PlayMarket apps? Usually, it is a black rectangle with rounded edges and geometric keys. So, the appearance of PIXI came down to us from these pictures. Faceless or ascetic? For me, rather, the second, there is a certain sympathy for such simplicity. Another plus is that all the connectors and a few buttons are located in obvious places, you don't even need to get used to it. A headphone jack, a call speaker (without a mesh), an event indicator and a front camera are at the top, a USB port and touch keys (without a backlight) are at the bottom, lock and volume keys are on the side, the main speaker and a camera with flash are at the back.
I did not notice any backlashes, blockages, creaks of the case, the assembly is good.
Alcatel's dimensions are compact by today's standards, yet smartphones less than 5 inches are no longer perceived as hulks. Weighs 125 grams - not a heavyweight, but not quite a fluff either. Plump. It is convenient to wear both in shorts in summer and in a jacket in winter, since the pockets are not pulled back, but there is no feeling that the phone has suddenly disappeared from the pocket. The device could have come out more compact, for example, if the touch keys were software.
The color of the back cover is proudly called "volcanic black". But in general, you guessed it, it's a boring black and gray. Not for the first time I notice that the simplest colors reach the shelves of our stores, although there is a whole rainbow of them on the official website. It's a shame. The lid is made of soft-touch matte plastic, the smartphone does not slip out of your hands. Unfortunately, the panel collects scratches very quickly. Removing the lid is very simple - no latches, the shape is very similar to those on the Lumia, they envelop the body. In general, a simple and convenient solution.
In addition, a branded cover was bought, which is also a back cover. The materials are pleasant and non-marking, except that the cover collects scratches very quickly.
No surprises inside. The only thing that is not good is that you can't do a hot swap of a SIM card.
Screen
Diagonal 4.5 inches, resolution 854x480, TFT. Pixelation is not striking, although you can always take a closer look. Of course, I would like a larger screen resolution, but with such a diagonal it is not so critical. In the sun, the screen is seriously faded, turning the brightness to the maximum helps a little. The lack of automatic brightness control is upsetting. Multi-touch just two touches, on the other hand, how often do you need more? Perhaps in games, I think.
Most likely, there is no oleophobic coating - prints are collected quite quickly, but they are easily erased. The finger does not slide very willingly, but it does not even reach frank discomfort (I immediately remember the finger stumbling over the screen on the Lumia). The screen is responsive, I did not find any dead zones. In general, not like the old Alcatel touchscreens with oak screens from the past. It looks like both protective glass no, in a couple of months, two small scratches remained on the screen (and this is when worn in a case).
In general, the screen does not reach outright pornography, but now more and more ultra-budget smartphones with IPS-matrices appear, you should think about it before buying.
Iron
Chipset MT6735M with a frequency of 1 GHz, four cores. 1 GB of RAM, about 300 MB available. The smartphone turned out to be very playful. You can't play heavy games, but something not very demanding (puzzles, strategies, platformers) is easy. Watch the video, open several tabs in the browser - no problem. The interface works smoothly. Perhaps, it would be too much to dream about more in the case of a budget device.
If the smartphone is heavily loaded with applications, then heating will occur in the area of \u200b\u200bthe main camera with a flash. Warm, but not hot.

There is one more small minus, at least for me. In the settings, you can choose to automatically switch between all three communication formats, but between 4 and 3G you cannot.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are, of course, in place and work flawlessly.
Let's not forget about the good old "call". I did not find any unpleasant surprises here - a confident signal, the interlocutor is well heard, as well as you, in both cases the ears remain at rest.
For fast internet and telephone calls, PIXI will recommend itself on the good side.
Interface and multimedia
Lollipop 5.1 with Alcatel launcher. There are very few changes, and this is more of a plus, I like the standard "Candy" interface. Basically, the changes are purely cosmetic.
The last left desktop is occupied by some analogue of HTC BlinkFeed. Here you can see the weather, the latest reviews and applications from the company store. The main catch is that you can choose a maximum of 3 topics for news. Why is this limitation here? I never thought of it. At least this news screen can be removed in the settings.
Built-in applications are a necessary minimum, they are all very "usable". Initially, games and a couple of applications from Beeline were installed, which I could easily remove (I use MegaFon).
I often listen to music on my smartphone. The sound, in general, is not bad, most likely at the level of other budget smartphones. I use third-party players, this is my habit; if you don't care about the number of supported formats and there are no special requests for the interface, then the stock will do. The radio, quite predictably, only works with headphones. Videos are played cheerfully, but films, for obvious reasons, I would not recommend watching, after all, the screen size is not designed for long viewing.
The standard browser works flawlessly, briskly, but when there are so many good, fast alternatives, then it makes little sense to use it.
I wonder if Alcatel will update the model to Android 6 "and, in theory, the hardware still allows.
Cameras
Let's go to the sore spot of the PIXI. I rarely take pictures, so the assessment will be very subjective.
The main camera is 5 megapixels, without autofocus, with a flash, the front camera is 0.3. I think that by looking at the numbers, you've already got the big picture. The front camera is only suitable for video calls. The quality of the main camera is not at all important, it feels like there is interpolation from 3 megapixels. The camera interface is as simple as possible, there is no macro photography and other priblud. More or less bearable shots are obtained only at close range. There is a QR code scanner.
To begin with, I will list the pros and cons, all based on the fact that the PIXI is a very budget smartphone:

2-3 years ago, budget smart phones were a real wagon and a small cart of compromises. For the sake of a small price, manufacturers sacrificed literally every component. Each of these state employees had at least a few big drawbacks: outdated hardware and a screen, symbolic cameras, skinny batteries, sometimes the body assembly itself. It should be noted that A-brands were especially guilty of this.

As you can see, the device fits in the hand quite easily (and conveniently). The body is made in the form of a monoblock on the front panel of which there is an earpiece and touch control buttons in the form of a triangle, a circle and a square. The smartphone comes in three colors - black, white and pink. We got black, or rather volcanic black (Volcano Black), as it is correctly called by Alcatel. After the first turn on, the device, as it seemed to us, was initialized for a rather long time, however, the initial setting for connecting to wiFi networks and Google account did not take long, and a working android table 5.1.
