In this article, we'll talk about how to record audio from a computer without a microphone. The methods that will be given below allow you to record audio from any sound sources - players, radio, and the Internet.

We will use Audacity, UV Sound Recorder and Free Audio Recorder to record. All of them allow you to achieve the desired result, but differ in functionality and complexity in handling.

Method 1: Audacity

Audacity is a free but very powerful program with its own editor. Has many functions for sound processing and supports the installation of VST plugins.

Installation

Recording

Please note that to export audio in MP3 format, you must additionally install a library called Lame.

Method 2: UV Sound Recorder

In this section we will introduce a program that is much easier to use than Audacity. Its main feature is recording sound from several devices at once, while the tracks can be saved in two separate files in MP3 format.

  1. Launch the program and select the devices from which you plan to record sound by checking the appropriate boxes.

  2. Use the sliders on the right to adjust the recording levels. There are no clear instructions here, so you have to experiment. It is necessary to achieve an acceptable ratio between the loudness of the source and the background noise.

  3. Another slider below allows you to adjust the bitrate of the output file. If speech is recorded, the required minimum is 32-56 Kb / s, and for music it is better to set the value higher - from 128 Kb / s.

  4. Next, select a location to save the output files by clicking the browse button with three dots.

  5. We decide whether to split the tracks into several files, and set the switch to the desired position.

  6. Settings made, you can click "Record".

  7. After completing the recording, click "Stop".

  8. We open the folder, which was indicated in point 4, and we see two files, one of which will have a track from the microphone, and the second - from the speakers.

There is one caveat when working with the program. She may not record the second track. To prevent this from happening, before starting the process, check if the level bar rises near the selected device. If not, restart UV Sound Recorder.

Method 3: Free Audio Recorder

This method of recording sound will be the simplest of all described in this article. The Free Audio Recorder program has a minimum of its own settings and at the same time copes with the task.

  1. After starting the software, select the format into which the final file will be converted. MP3 and OGG are available.

  2. Go to the tab "Recording" and first of all, we select the device from which we will write sound.

  3. We adjust the bit rate and the number of channels.

  4. We determine the frequency.

  5. The bottom two lists are for selecting the quality separately for MP3 and OGG.

  6. The rest of the necessary settings are made in the section of the system sound parameters. You can quickly get there by pressing the button with the microphone icon.

Paragraph Volume Mixer opens standard "Volume mixer", in which you can adjust the playback levels if you plan to record not from a microphone.

If you press "Config Device", a window for system sound settings will open, where you can enable devices if they are not in the list, assign defaults and change other parameters.

  7. We start recording by clicking on the red button.

Choose a place to save the file, give it a name and click "Save".

  8. After the recording is finished, click "Stop"... You can also pause the process and then continue as needed.

We've covered three ways to record audio from a computer. Which of the presented tools to use, decide for yourself. If you need to quickly record a speech or track from the Internet, UV Sound Recorder and Free Audio Recorder are quite suitable, and if there is a need for processing, it is better to turn to Audacity.

Thanks to the abundance of torrent trackers and other free resources, you can find and download almost any multimedia content to your computer. However, there are exceptions here. What to do, for example, if the broadcasting is in streaming mode and where is the guarantee that the online audio transmission, which you would like to have recorded on your PC, will then be posted on the Internet? In such cases, it is better not to rely on chance, but to take and record sound from the computer yourself.

There is nothing difficult in this, you do not even need special programs, however, their use would be preferable. Let's first consider how to record sound from a computer using the system itself. Popular windows versions there is such a useful tool as "Sound Recorder", which allows you to capture the audio stream from both a microphone and a sound card. But before you get down to business, you need to check the availability of an appropriate recording device on your computer.

Recording sound on a computer using Windows

Right-click on the sound icon in the tray and select "Recorders" (or "Sound Devices") from the menu.

With a high degree of probability, in the window that opens on the "Recording" tab, you will find only the microphone, which, however, does not mean that other recording devices are not available. Right-click on an empty space in the window and select "Show disabled devices" from the menu. If “Stereo Mixer” or “What U Hear” appears in the list, great, that's what we'll use to capture audio. Right-click on it, select "Enable" from the menu first, and then "Use as default".

After saving the settings, run from the Start menu standard application Sound Recorder or Voice Recorder (in Windows 10).

We suppose there is no need to explain how to use it, all the work here comes down to pressing one button. Audio will be recorded from the speakers, but if you need to record sound to the computer from a microphone, instead of a stereo mixer in the settings of the "Sound" window, select the microphone by default. Naturally, the latter must be connected to the computer.

Programs for recording sound from a microphone and sound card

The above method is simple and convenient, but, alas, it is not suitable for everyone. The point is that the Stereo Mixer device may either not be implemented at the driver level, or it may be blocked by the sound card manufacturer. The sound from the audio card, however, can still be recorded, but for this you have to use third-party programs. There are many such programs, both paid and free. One of them is Audacity Is a simple yet powerful program for recording sound and editing digital audio.

The program can record sound from an external and built-in microphone, mixer and Line In channel. On some models of audio cards, it is possible to capture streaming Internet radio, that is, the application can be used as a means of recording sound from the Internet to a computer. There are many other features in Audacity, but in this case we are interested in sound recording. The procedure is as follows. Launch the program, select Windows WASAPI as the signal source, and the device you need as the sound source, that is, a microphone or an audio card.

Unfortunately, for some reason, the names of the available devices in Audacity are displayed in cracks, but this is not such a problem, in the end, you can make test recordings from both outputs, determine the best one and continue to choose it. To capture the audio stream, press the red round button, to stop - the black square. To save the recorded data to a file, go to the menu File - Export and select the desired format.

To save the recording to MP3, you may need to install the lame_enc.dll library

A good alternative to Audacity is a simple program for recording sound from your computer. VoiceRecorder allows you to record sound from an audio card, microphone and audio card / microphone at the same time, the required mode is selected in the drop-down menu. The program supports recording to MP3 and WAV, cutting out silence, choosing the quality of the output file. Sound is captured by pressing the "Record" button, saving - by pressing the "Stop" button.

From paid applications, you can recommend the program AudioMaster, especially if you need to record sound on a computer from a microphone. To do this, in the menu, click "Record sound from the microphone", in the window that opens, select, if necessary, a sound recording device and click the "Start new recording" button.

Upon completion of the recording, AudioMaster will offer to edit it - change the voice parameters, increase the volume, add effects and more. However, you can save the recorded voice without preliminary editing. Click on the save icon located on the toolbar and select the appropriate format in the wizard window.

Recording audio using online services

And in the end, we will consider the third option, namely, how to record sound on a computer through a microphone using special online services. Designed for the widest range of users, they are simple and customizable. Some of the more popular microphone recording services include OnlineVoiceRecorder, VoiceRecorder, Vocalremover, and Dictaphone.

OnlineVoiceRecorder allows you to record audio from the built-in and external microphone and then save it to an MP3 file. The tool is free, practically devoid of settings, has a simple, intuitive interface, and supports previewing the recording and cutting it.

Similar functionality is offered by another free service. This online voice recorder can capture data from a microphone and save it to a WAV file (without loss of quality).

- a good online voice recorder that allows you to record from a microphone, followed by basic editing and saving in MP3, WAV and OGG formats to choose from. After recording, the audio can be listened to, the effects are available to change the tone and size of the "room".

Analogue Vocalremover is a free service that allows you to record sound from a microphone. It differs from previous resources in the ability to overlay audio tracks and save the recording on the server. Additionally, the online application supports moving through the recording with the mouse, undoing and redoing actions. When saving a recording to a file, only one format is available - MP3.

This, perhaps, is all. These were the main ways of recording sound from speakers and a microphone to a computer, which one is better is up to you. In our opinion, it is more universal to use third-party desktop programs that allow you to record sound even when the mixer is unavailable, as for online services, their capabilities are limited, in addition, for correct operation they may need to enable Flash technology, the use of which is considered unsafe today.

Recording sound from a microphone is a simple matter. In addition, a great many programs have been written that can record audio. Such software can be very different from competitors, but at the same time, it copes with its tasks quite well. Let's look at the most "capable" representatives of audio recording software.

A small, but rather powerful utility, "sharpened" for recording sound in MP3 format. It is for this format that the program provides a large number of settings. Free MP3 Sound Recorder records audio from players, instant messengers and other sources.

Free Audio Recorder

Another program for recording sound from a computer. Unlike Free MP3 Sound Recorder, it records (logs) all actions performed by the user. Logs can be used to diagnose and fix errors. This software supports all types of sound cards, including built-in, discrete and external devices.

Free Sound Recorder

In our opinion, this program for sound recording does not stand out among its kind. Regular functions and some marketing. However, unlike the previous representatives, it has a built-in scheduler. Free Sound Recorder supports a wide variety of formats and devices.

Kat MP3 Recorder

Quite old, but quite workable program that does an excellent job of its tasks. Has a simple and intuitive interface, includes many settings, has a built-in scheduler and archive. The software can write sound in rare formats, and the scheduler has a built-in function for recording audio using a link from the Internet.

UV Sound Recorder

Sound forge

Powerful paid software that, in addition to recording sound, allows you to edit it. The editor is professional, with many functions and support for third-party plugins. The arsenal of tools of the program includes batch processing of files, burning CDs, as well as recovery of damaged tracks.

NanoStudio

NanoStudio is a free music production software with a large set of built-in tools. The main ones are the TRG-16 drum machine and the Eden virtual synthesizer. Supports MIDI devices, has functions for creating songs, as well as mixing and mastering.

Audacity

A very similar product to Sound Forge, with one big difference - it's completely free. For Open source Audacity software has surprisingly powerful functionality. The program supports plugins, provides the ability to convert formats, supports any audio device.

These are the representatives of software for sound recording. Some can only write audio, some can edit, some are paid, others are free. It's up to you.

How to work with UV SoundRecorder

Device selection

To start recording audio, you must select at least one device. In the list (see picture above) there are two sound recorders:

  1. Microphone - Logitech Mic (Ultra Vision)
  2. Speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio

The first device, in this case, is the microphone in the USB webcam.

Opposite each device there is a current sound level. This, in particular, helps to determine which microphone is working (connected).

Each device can have several lines (microphone, line input, etc.). In some sound cards you can select only one line for recording, in some - several.

Recording level

The recording level (horizontal slider) determines the sensitivity (level) of the recording. If the level is too low, the sound will be quiet. If it is too high, then the sound will be too loud and with interference, noise. It is recommended to experiment with the recording level to determine the desired audio recording level.

If you record sound simultaneously from speakers and a microphone, then you can't do without a test recording. It is necessary to select the recording levels so that the volume of the sound recorded from the microphone and the sound recorded from the speakers is approximately the same.

Each track into a separate file

When recording from multiple sources, you can choose to save sound to one or several files. If you are going to edit the sound in the future, it is more convenient to save audio tracks in different files.

When recording audio to multiple files, "_1", "_2", etc. will be appended to their names.

Converting to mp3

Recorded sound file (files) can be automatically converted to mp3 immediately after recording. In this form, it takes up much less space. To do this, use the "Convert to mp3" checkbox. You can also convert manually using the "Convert" button. This takes into account the switch "To one file", "To different files". The only setting is the bitrate (in simplified terms, the sound quality).

If you are recording music, then the minimum is 128 Kb / s

  • The "Convert to mp3" checkbox and the bitrate can be set right during the recording.
  • A long recording can be converted for a rather long time (several minutes).

Listening to the recording result

After recording, the "Play" button will become available. You can listen to the result of the recording regardless of whether sound was recorded in one or several files.

You can also check out the program for creating videos and recording video from the screen
