Yalova is a city and region in northwestern Turkey, the administrative center of Yalova silt. The city is located near the Sea of Marmara.

History

The first settlement in the Yalova region appeared in the prehistoric period, in the region of the 3rd millennium BC. NS.; the Hittites ruled here around the 2nd millennium BC. e., then the area was captured by the Phrygians (c. 1200 BC). The Greeks founded the city of Pythia (Greek Πυθια) here. In 74 BC. Pythia, together with the Bithynian coast, came under the control of Rome.

After the division of the Roman Empire in 395, the area remained under the sovereignty of the Byzantine Empire and the city continued to be called Pythia. The thermal springs of Pythia were often visited by Greek emperors. In the late Middle Ages, the name Pythea gradually fell out of use, but the subsequent Yalova, most likely, dates back to the Greek Yialos - "coast". Temporarily, from the 1070s to 1097, the Yalova region came under the rule of the Seljuk Turks. In 1302, Yalova was one of the first territories captured from the Byzantines by the Ottoman Turks.

In 1912, 14,894 Greeks, 5,000 Muslims and 1,000 Armenians lived here.

  • Lundemis, Menelaos (Greek Μενέλαος Λουντέμης, 1912-1977) is a famous Greek writer.

The thermal resort Yalova, famous for its springs and located in a mountain gorge, will help diversify your stay in Istanbul. Yalova is located south of the capital, on the opposite side of the Izmit Bay. The main advantage of the resort is a wonderful park, which contains thousands of unique plants and flowers and, of course, thermal water and the purest mountain air.

The history of Yalova begins in the prehistoric period: this town is more than five thousand years old. The Phrygians replaced the Hitites, the Romans and Byzantines came after them, and the city continued to interest everyone due to its geographical location. Greek refugees from Phrygia settled here and Venetians traded here. And the "father of the Turkish nation" Mustafa Kemal Ataturk loved these places so much in the last years of his life that he uttered the famous words: "Yalova is my city."

Yalova is a small town and is easy to walk around. In warmer months, Gazi-Pasha Street is most popular among both tourists and locals. Another focal point of city life is the local bazaar located opposite the ferry terminal. The market is only open three days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday), but the selection of fresh local fruits and vegetables is excellent.

In the so-called tea gardens along the coast, you can taste amazing balik ekmek fish sandwiches.

Entertainment and attractions in Yalova

There are not many tourist attractions in Yalova, and one of the main ones is considered to be "kyoshk" - the house in the Ottoman-Turkish style, where he stayed

I have some health-improving days of jam in Turkey. 2 years ago I was relaxing in the historic. It practically turned out to be a session of bath meditation. :)
And this year I asked my husband to take me to the thermal springs near Yalova, which I have looked after for a long time thanks to the all-knowing raksolana .

Photos on her blog promised a green, cozy paradise. But the reality exceeded ALL our expectations! We were just delighted with this place and certainly, definitely want to come back here again. Preferably in winter, when the snow is quietly falling around, and you are sitting in an open WARM pool with a view of the gorgeous forest and are in awe of how wonderful life is. :)

I rushed to Thermal in many respects for the sake of the actual thermal therapeutic baths. Well, I have never had such an experience in my life - to lie in a natural pool with "living" water. we didn’t like the overwhelming number of people per square meter of the pool and we didn’t honor it with our presence. Therefore, it was terribly interesting for me to plunge into the thermal baths, where Roman patricians still warmed their bones, for this place has been known for a long time - already from Roman-Byzantine times. And I got what a portion of impressions! And shocking.

The main surprise for me was the water temperature. Well, I never expected that + 34C would seem like a subtle kind of torture to me. I certainly love WARM baths. But the fact that the water is only plus 34C is SO hot - I did not suspect at all! Specifically asked the pool employee, is + 34C really? He confirmed. He said that he measured it an hour ago. What then, at + 37C, to which water from the local springs can reach? So it won't cook for long!

Unfortunately, we did not manage to enjoy the high in the OPEN pool with stunning views of the forest, slightly touched by the golden autumn. It was on this very day that it was cleaned and tidied up.

Therefore, we were content with a small indoor pool at our hotel ("Thermal" - on the recommendation of the same raksolana ):

Feeling the water with our feet, we slowly and carefully immersed our carcasses in the water. I watched in amazement as some brave Turkish couple - he and she in a bathing suit of Muslim special protection - jumped there in a big way, headlong, and even swam. Opensource projects This is what kind of health you need to have! The first time we were in the water, probably less than 10 minutes, which seemed like an eternity to me. I remembered how, in the tale of the Firebird and Vasilisa, the Wise Sagittarius, the good fellow, was bathing in boiling water. When I finally crawled out of the pool, I felt that my body was spreading into dough from relaxation, which fell on me like a large duvet. I fell to pieces on a sun lounger and felt like I was literally in a hammam, although the temperature was maintained there at + 40C. The second time was enough for me for an even shorter period. Later I read in the brochure, which was kindly lying in our hotel room, that we did everything right. When taking thermal baths at the beginning, it is recommended to sit in them for no more than 15 minutes.

There was steam in the pool with a rocker, and I did not take pictures inside. And there was nothing particularly interesting there - the pool was like a pool. Therefore, I will illustrate this post with photographs of the Thermal hotel itself:

Moreover, he deserves it!

Outside, the hotel is surrounded by greenery, which already sets you up for health improvement. :)
A tall and very beautiful Atlas cedar grows right at the entrance:

Classic respectable hall:

But back to our water treatments.
I have also looked at other tips for taking thermal baths:

First, before going to the water for treatment, of course, you need to consult your doctor. And that's true. For example, having plunged in, I immediately thought that such baths for the male reproductive system were not even good at all. Then I read on the Internet that hot water puts a lot of stress on the heart, therefore it is contraindicated in diseases thereof, as well as in tumors, because it activates metabolism, respectively, the growth of tumors too. Well, you never know what other sores are affected by the high temperature of the water negatively.

Once a day, such a "health bath" is quite enough;

Baths are not good on a full stomach;
And the restaurant in the hotel is decent. :)

The body gets used to the bathroom gradually. Therefore, the effect at first may be somewhat unexpected: overexcitation, irritability and even aggression. Insomnia may begin, or, on the contrary, a feeling of fatigue and lethargy will fall (as in our case :)). You may get a headache. In the first week of treatment, rheumatism may worsen. In general, baths affect everyone differently;

While taking thermal baths, you need to lie relaxed in the water (and not swim and jump, as I observed);

After baths, you should take care not to overcool (apparently, this is advice for cold winter evenings :)),

After the baths, lie down and rest, ”the brochure suggested carefully. That's for sure! Whether you want or not, the physical activity is definitely minimal after them. :)
- and in general, be relaxed! You are on a medical vacation! :)

We followed the advice immediately, returning completely exhausted to the room and lying on the bed to rest:

Finally, the brochure intimidated that, supposedly, after the end of the treatment course in 3-4 weeks, the kidneys, liver could make themselves felt, and gout attacks would occur. Well, fig such a treatment - I was indignant when I read it all! My husband reassured me: they say, all this is like in the instructions for the pills when you start reading them.
After testing with hot water, my husband ran and took a cold shower for his soul. :) And I made an unequivocal conclusion for myself that dousing-dipping in cold water is somehow closer to me. And the sensations of cold water are much more powerful and healthier. Eh, I remembered how in October my friend and I plunged into the font of the Zhirovichy monastery. That was the charge!
But in Termal I was delighted with the view from our window:
