Determine the authenticity of the photo online. How to check a photo for theft from the Internet

Hello friends! We all know that website promotion primarily depends on unique content. Content should be understood not only as text, but also video and images. Search robots determine the relevance of an article to a particular query by the uploaded images. Therefore, it is important to know how.

You will probably agree that the "hackneyed" images "plague" the eyes of visitors. Novice webmasters mostly download them from other sites, add an entry and consider that the picture is unique. Many people simply do not know how to check a picture for uniqueness, unlike services to check a text for uniqueness.

How to check for uniqueness of a picture

You can check the picture for uniqueness with online services. I use the tineye.com service.

Image verification can be set in two ways. Upload a file from computer 1 and indicate link 2 to a picture that is already on the Internet.

In a matter of seconds, the picture will be checked from over 18 billion! options and the service will give an answer in the form of a list of sites on which the image and the picture itself are located. As you can see, there are no completely identical pictures. They have been edited in the editors. But the main thing is that the robots have learned to read the electronic code. And to achieve uniqueness you need to "sweat".

How to check a picture for uniqueness google

Tineye.com isn't the only verification service. Google and Yandex have even more opportunities. The check here is identical, so I'll show it using google as an example. Go to the service check images on google.

Click on the camera icon. And you can also choose to download a picture from your computer or specify the website address. Google will show even more matches than tineye.

As you can see, you can do it in three clicks.

Instructions

Image search is carried out by such giants as Google and Yandex. If you need to check the uniqueness of an image posted on the Internet, right-click on it and select "Copy link to image" from the context menu. On the Google home page, click on the "Pictures" link in the upper right corner, then click on the camera icon at the right edge of the search bar. Right-click on the "Specify link" field and select the "Insert" command, then click "Search by Image". The program will display the number of copies found and links to resources where these images are located.

To determine the uniqueness that is stored on your computer, click on the camera icon and go to the "Upload file" tab. Click "Browse" and specify the path to the desired image. If the program does not find the exact same picture, the output will result in images with similar colors and composition. Enter images in the search bar on the results page to narrow your search, for example, "Shrovetide Pictures".

The Google Chrome browser can also appreciate the uniqueness of an Internet image. Right-click on the picture on the website and select the "Find this image on Google" command. The result will be similar to the display of Images.Google.

The service Pictures.Yandex works in a similar way. On the main page of this search engine, click "Pictures" and click on the camera icon at the right border of the search bar. To determine the uniqueness of a picture posted on a web resource, enter a link to the picture in the input field and click "Find". To determine the uniqueness of a photo on your computer, follow the "Select file" link and specify the path to the desired image. However, Google is more accurate at recognizing the image and, accordingly, produces more results.

The TinEye service is often used to determine the uniqueness of images. Enter the web address of the image in the Enter Image Address field and click Search. The program displays the number of matches found and web pages with a similar image. If you want to evaluate the uniqueness of an image stored on your computer, click Browse and specify the path to the file.

You can check the uniqueness of the image using the Etxt Antiplagiat service, which is offered by the etxt.ru content exchange. Download the free program from the main page of the site and select "Image uniqueness" in the "Operations" menu. Click on the button with dots to the right of the search bar and specify the path to the file on your computer, or enter the web address of the picture in the search bar and press Enter. The search result will be displayed at the bottom of the window.

If the photographer registers the copyright for his images or does not release the photographs into the public domain, then he is the sole and automatic copyright holder. The use of such images without the permission of the author is a violation of copyright, well, unless you comply with the terms of "fair use", which is unlikely. The easy availability of an image on the Internet does not mean that you have the right to take it and use it.

However, stealing images is super common. Therefore, it can be a useful skill to be able to check a photo for uniqueness.

Checking Copyright Information

The easiest way to validate an image is to look at the embedded metadata about the author. You can download images and check metadata using your operating system, but it is faster and easier to use an online metadata viewer like Metapicz.

Right click on the image you want to check and press the button Copy image url... Please note that the exact wording of this command may differ in different browsers, but you will definitely find this command.

Go to Metapicz, paste the copied URL into the line below and click the Go button.

You will see all the metadata embedded in the image (if any). The copyright information will be at the top center.

However, this is not an ideal method. You can strip out any metadata and add your own copyright information. So, the lack of copyright information does not mean that the image is not copyrighted.

I find it amusing when my photos end up on other sites and the copyright information remains embedded.

Use reverse image search

Another good way to find out if a photo has been stolen is to use reverse and some detective work.

There are several services that can search for images. Google is the most famous, but Bing isn't bad either. An interesting and effective search algorithm is shown by TinEye, but, unfortunately, many sites do not crawl it. For this article, I'm going to use Google.

On the google home page, go to the picture search by clicking "Pictures" in the top bar, and then click on the small camera icon in the search bar.

Paste the URL or download the file from your computer.

Google will show you what it thinks of the image, as well as some visually similar photos that may be copies of the image you specified.

  • Which photo was published first; it's not a perfect test, but it's one of the best.
  • Which site seems to be the most authoritative. This is another imperfect but often reliable test.
  • Where an image is available in the highest resolution it is likely to be original.
  • If color versions of the photograph exist, or another less edited version, it is likely the original. Removing text from a photo or adding color to a black and white image is a lot of work.
  • Does the image appear on any photographer's portfolio? While some photographers steal photos and claim to be their own, it is far more common for random people to steal photos from photographers' websites.

It is more and more common among people who steal images to make small changes to the photograph. I checked a reverse Google image search to see how it responds to simple photo changes, and to be honest, it surprised me.

I checked:

  • Black and white version of the photo.
  • Cropped version of the photo.
  • A shortened black and white version of the photo.
  • Cropped version of the photo with added text.
  • Cropped high contrast version of the photo.
  • Cropped high-contrast version of photos with changed colors.
  • Cropped, reverse version of the photo.

Google failed only in the latter case. It didn't matter if I changed colors or added text, it still returned the same results. It's just incredible. Someone really needs to make an effort to reshape the image so much that Google can't catch it.

Stealing images - or more accurately, using an image without proper permission - is a big problem on the internet. It can also be very expensive. If you use someone else's photo without permission, you can face a fine of thousands of rubles. Just be careful when using someone else's images and don't know where they came from.

Hello, friends! Ekaterina Kalmykova is with you, and today I would like to ask you: how do you check the uniqueness of the pictures that you use in articles and should they be checked at all?

My answer is very simple, of course you need to! After all, we care about the quality of the written post, namely the text, why should it be different with other data? Therefore, in the article we will talk about how to check a photo for uniqueness online.

Why do you need to check?

I think it doesn't take a long time to explain the importance of unique content. I will highlight three key points:

  1. So that search robots put you in the top results;
  2. For your promotion to work correctly;
  3. To make it pleasant for the reader not only to read the unique text, but also to watch interesting images that he has not seen before.

How to check a photo for uniqueness online?

Let's talk about what services you can check your pictures.

Google

It would seem that we are used to perceiving it only as a search engine. But over the years of development, the company has created quite a lot of services that allow you not only to follow the life of your project, but also to make it special. For example, I use Google and it is very convenient for me.

Google, like the rest of the systems that we will talk about today, carries out verification in the following way - it checks how often the document has been found on the network, and how many times other users have used it.

So, how can you check the uniqueness:

Go to the page google.com

Click on the camera icon.

In the pop-up window, you can choose to search by link or download your file and check in this way.

We will choose the second option "Upload File".

Now we see the bottom line.

The picture I checked was used about 520 times. It will be too much 🙂

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in checking with Google. Everything happens quickly and without any problems. I think it's understandable that the fewer times a picture has been used, the better.

Yandex

It turns out that the Yandex resource is not only a search engine, but also a multifunctional assistant for many bloggers. We have already talked about a huge number of useful services on this site, including about, and one more is a free online check of illustrations. The principle of operation for Yandex is the same as for Google.

We go to the service Yandex.ru.

Click on the camera.

In the opened tab, we transfer the photo we need to check or enter the address of the picture.

And now we enjoy the result.

Yandex showed us all the sites where the same picture is found.

Tineye

And the last option, which will help you find out how unique the picture is, is tineye. The way of working does not differ from Yandex or Google, so it will be very easy to understand it:

We go to the service tyneye.com.

Now we select either search for an image by url or download.

Here's our total: 183 results. It is up to you to insert such a picture into an article or look for something else, but I would not use it.

As you yourself can see, not all services show the same result, so I would recommend checking in different systems to be sure of the information. The fewer times a picture has been used, the better.

Here are some tips on how to keep your content unique:

  • It is best to use unique images. They can be found on a variety of resources that provide an opportunity to buy pictures or use personal photos.
  • If you don't feel like buying, try changing the tone of the photo.
  • You can also take some part of the image.
  • Alternatively, flip the image, put it a little upside down, etc.
  • Add your own elements to the photo, for example, arrows, pointers, some shapes, highlighting certain parts, etc.

In these simple ways, you can check the uniqueness of the images that you want to add to your post. If you upload all the photos from your own "Vacation - Gelendzhik - 2015" archive, you don't have to bother checking. But if you really liked the picture from someone else's resource, make sure that it is not plagiarism, otherwise you may suffer.

Illustrate your articles with the most interesting and individual drawings! And everything will be cool!

How do you check the uniqueness of the images used?

Ekaterina Kalmykova

Hello friends! Recently I was concerned with such a question - how to check a photo for a match on the Internet? It's no secret that search engines are very sensitive to unique texts. They are also not indifferent to photographs, since they believe that copyright has not been canceled yet. After reflecting on the topic, I realized that there are several ways to find out how “clean” a photo is and whether it has copies on the World Wide Web.

I want to say right away that truly unique photographs can be found exclusively on specialized sites. They are called differently - photobanks, stocks, and so on. Only there are copyright photos that you can buy or download for free. It depends on how generous this or that photobank is, how popular it is and how much the author of the photo or picture appreciates himself and his work.

What are the ways

After analyzing the situation, I realized that I could talk about three different search methods in detail and in detail. All of them, as a rule, are effective and give good results. Which one you choose is a personal matter for everyone. My task is to tell you about everything in maximum detail. So let's start:

  • search engines Google and Yandex;
  • tineye.com website;
  • Etxt Antiplagiat program.

Let's dwell on each point in more detail.

Google and Yandex search engines

Very often Google in the minds of people is a search engine. A little less often - mail. However, the service contains a lot of interesting things for both an ordinary user and a webmaster. One of his such "tricks" is just checking images for uniqueness. The algorithm for searching for matches is quite simple - the system simply monitors how often a particular image was found on the network according to a sample specified by the user and gives out approximate matches (among which the desired picture or photograph may appear).

To check the image for uniqueness, you will need to go to the site https://images.google.com. In the familiar search bar on the right side, you will see a small camera icon.

By clicking on it, you will be offered two options: provide a link to a picture on the Internet or upload your own file. For example, we need to find out how unique the image from our hard drive is. By clicking on the second option "Upload file", you will see the line "Select file". When you click on it, a small dialog box will open in which you will be asked to find a photo on your computer and upload it for verification. After selecting the desired image, you should click "Open". After that, the system will load the picture and start searching by the photo. It usually takes a split second, and after that you will find out if there are copies of that image on the network or if it is unique.

It is important to take into account that Google can show very similar pictures, but this does not mean at all that your photo is not unique. You just need to carefully review the results of the issue and everything will immediately become clear.

The situation is approximately the same with the domestic one. To search through it, you need to go to https://yandex.ru/images/.

To check the picture, you need to drag it to the search bar. The system will think a little and give out a similar picture or "say" - nothing, they say, has not been found.

As for me, Google works a little faster than Yandex, and its result is, as a rule, more accurate and better.

Website tineye.com

To search through this Internet resource, you need to go to the site https://tineye.com/. It is very simple and has an intuitive interface. Right in the middle, you will see a small line. On the left side of it there is a button for uploading a file to the site and subsequent verification, and on the right there is a search button. It is used to check how many references to the desired image can be found if you enter the URL of the photo.

The site differs from among similar ones in that it works very quickly online and is easy to learn. After uploading a picture, it will show how many times it appears on the Internet. Interestingly, he almost never shows similar images. Although it may be that I was just always lucky - I don’t know. Either unique or not, there are no other options.

Etxt Antiplagiat program

If you are too lazy to constantly open your browser, click links, upload photos to the network, then you can use a free program for computers called Etxt Antiplagiat. This is the official utility from the etxt.ru content exchange, which once specialized only in texts and translations, and now tries itself as a photo bank. Any user can put up for sale his or her own photographs or painted pictures, but all of them are tested for uniqueness within the system. We just need to check, not put up for sale, so we download the program from the official website: https://www.etxt.biz/antiplagiat/ and install it.

After that, go to the "Operations" menu and select the "Image uniqueness" item. Next, you will see a button on the right side of the search box. By clicking it, you will open a dialog box where you can find the original image on your computer and upload it for verification. The program works well and reliably. The only negative is that sometimes the search can take a little longer.

Etxt Antiplagiat is a program for checking the uniqueness of text and graphic information. In the search results, it displays the addresses of sites on which fragments of matching text and the desired images were found.

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in checking images for uniqueness. But if you are sure that there are no such pictures anywhere else, then you will definitely not be afraid of penalties from search engines or, even worse, lawsuits from copyright holders!

What means of searching for similar pictures or photos do you use? Be sure to write in the comments. Perhaps your method will be more effective.
