The smartphone can still be found on sale; it remains an interesting option, since it has a good design, functionality, and price. All those qualities for which people love and choose new devices.

There are not many changes compared to the previous solution. The first thing to consider is that the kit comes with a 2 GB card, and not 8 GB as before. The camera has also changed: now it is 5 megapixels versus 8. Otherwise, the models are similar, the design remains untouched, inside is the familiar proprietary shell. At the same time, an update to Android Ice Cream Sandwich has appeared here, so you can look at the already updated interface.

Appearance

The case dimensions are: 116x57x13 mm, weight 126 g. Among Android solutions, the device is not the largest, but not the smallest. Although there are already a few more subtle solutions on the market.

The design of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V has not undergone any changes, so it is easy to confuse both versions of the Neo. The model has been on the market for almost a year, during which time it has remained just as original and easily recognizable. The smartphone is not like other devices, and its pretty appearance will appeal to most.

The smooth lines of the body give the model unique features. There are sloping transitions at the top and bottom ends, and matching silver-colored inserts on the sides.

As before, the smartphone is available in several colors. Moreover, the range has expanded and now the following range is available to choose from: blue, silver, white, red and gold. The coating is of high quality, it does not peel off over time, the smartphone will retain its original appearance for a long time.

At the top end, which has a curved shape, there is a 3.5 mm jack in the very center. It is used to connect the supplied headset or any other headphones. To the left of it is a microUSB port. A cable is connected to it for synchronizing and transferring data to a computer. On the other side is a connector for an HDMI cable. Both slots are closed with folding plastic plugs and are reliably protected from possible dust.

At the bottom you can see the microphone hole and a notch that helps you remove the back panel.

There are no elements on the left side; there is a completely smooth silver plate.

On the right side, closer to the top, you can see a small round silver button. She is responsible for locking the screen. Below there is a large volume rocker key. On a small ledge there is a two-position camera shutter button. It is also worth mentioning the presence of a light indicator, which is located on this part of the case. It signals missed calls, new messages, lights up when charging - a very useful thing. It glows brightly and is hard to miss.

At the top, in a small oval hole, there is a speaker. Next to it is a camera for video calls and a proximity sensor.

Below the display there is a block of mechanical keys. It is made in the form of a curved strip, which consists of three large silver buttons. The first button helps you return to the previous menu item, the central one directs you to the desktop. Also, if you hold it down for a few seconds, it will activate the Application Manager. The last key calls up the context menu.

They do not have a backlight, but thanks to their large size, accidental clicks are excluded. The buttons are comfortable, pressed softly, and the action is accompanied by a soft click.

The back of the smartphone is curved, comfortable and ergonomic. It is painted in a metallic shade and looks beautiful.

Here you can see the bell speaker, corporate logo and camera lens. It’s easy to notice the LED flash next to it.

The smartphone is assembled tightly, reliably, without any play in the panels. Under the removable cover there is a compartment for a microSD memory card, to replace which you do not need to turn off the device. The SIM card slot is blocked by the battery.

Display

The display diagonal is 3.7 inches. It is made using Sony Mobile Bravia technology. Its feature is improved color rendition - when this function is activated (it can be disabled in the menu), the contrast and sharpness of the image increases - the picture is natural, natural, and alive. The resolution is 480x854 pixels, up to 16 million colors are displayed.

Of course, the screen is capacitive and supports 4-point multi-touch. He responds well to touch. The smartphone has an accelerometer, it allows you to change the picture, you just need to turn the phone. The proximity sensor turns off the screen when the phone comes close to your face during a call. There is no automatic brightness control sensor.

I would like to note the presence of a special coating on the display, which should provide protection from scratches. The screen coating is something between glass and plastic; it can be found in many other modern solutions. A special film will initially be glued to the display, which will serve as additional protection. It is glued very neatly, it is difficult to notice. If you don’t know about its presence, then you may not even notice its existence.

Behavior in the sun is average; in bright light the data is not very visible. If you do not manually set the display brightness to the maximum value, there may be problems with the readability of data on the screen.

The screen is dim, which is easy to notice when comparing the smartphone with its analogues. For example, the backlight adjustment margin is significantly higher. Maybe for some this will be a plus, because in this mode the battery energy is consumed more slowly. But at the same time, those who prefer bright, contrasting images will bypass this model.

Platform

The smartphone has a Qualcomm MSM8255 processor with a frequency of 1 GHz, an Adreno 205 graphics chip. There is 512 MB of RAM, as well as about 300 MB for user needs. The device will come with a 2 GB card. The performance is flawless, the smartphone is fast and does not slow down. All users can already upgrade to Android 4.0.3. Therefore, it was especially interesting to try the Xperia Neo V with the latest firmware.

Menu

At the top of the screen there is a service line, which displays the time, battery charge, and signal reception level indicator. Active connections and other data are also displayed there. By pulling it down, you can find out in more detail what programs have been downloaded, what messages and letters have been received, or what files have been received via Bluetooth. If music is playing, the control buttons will appear on a separate line. It's easy to delete unnecessary data; just swipe your finger across the line.

As a design element, it is possible to use both preset images or branded wallpapers, as well as your favorite pictures. In addition, shortcuts and folders are placed on the desktop.

Widgets are selected and can also be added to the desktop. There can be 5 virtual screens, and an interesting function works: you can swipe two fingers from diagonally opposite corners, all desktops will be reduced and displayed on one screen.

From additional features For customization, you can highlight the presence of built-in themes of different shades.

The smartphone menu consists of several work areas. If you install additional applications, then over time there will be more such areas. There are 16 icons on the screen on a translucent background, under which you can see the wallpaper installed on the main screen. Icons can be arranged in a way that is convenient for the user. There is also sorting by several criteria: alphabetically, frequently used, recently installed.

When the screen is locked, the display shows the date and time. To unlock the screen you need to swipe from left to right. If you do it the other way around, the camera starts, as indicated by the additional icon. If a player is playing in the background, then music control buttons are displayed here. Answering a call is also easy, just pull either the green or red label.

Phone book

The smartphone has a convenient assistant for importing contacts both from a SIM card and from Facebook and Google accounts; they are displayed in a single list. Created backup copy list of numbers onto a memory card, the data can later be restored.

When you add a new contact, many fields are created. This includes various types telephone numbers, email addresses, means of quick communication (AIM, ICQ, Gtalk, Skype and others), residential addresses and others (nickname, note, Internet call).

The smartphone has a list of letters of the alphabet located on the right side of the screen. If you press your finger on this line and move it down or up, a letter pops up on the screen - a kind of quick search, which helps in cases where the phone has several hundred or even thousands of contacts. The search works by the first letters of the contact name for both language layouts. There is a menu of favorite numbers where you can add frequently used contacts.

Call log

Straight from phone book You can access the call log - it is highlighted in a separate tab. There, a single list contains dialed numbers, received and missed calls; for clarity, they are marked with icons of different colors. By clicking on a line, you can delete a number from the call log, add it to a contact, or perform some other actions. By selecting a number from the list, detailed information about the call will be displayed.

By viewing your call history, you can not only make a telephone conversation with the selected subscriber, but also send him an SMS or an email from this list without going to another menu. Dialing is carried out using a convenient virtual keyboard. There is an automatic search for numbers that highlights suitable numbers where the order of the entered numbers matches.

Messages

For SMS and MMS there is a common folder where received messages go. When sending, adding various objects to the SMS can automatically convert it into an MMS. Messages are grouped by recipient into a correspondence feed. While typing, a small field reserved for characters will be displayed. The longer the message, the more the space allocated for the character set increases. The device can copy, cut and paste text (and not only into the messages themselves, but you can also add it to a document or email). A convenient cursor is used for navigation, which helps to correct typos and highlight the necessary sections of text.

Intellectual text input is available, when word correction and auto-completion systems help you type text at a fast pace, allowing you to avoid wasting time correcting errors. Possible word options are shown in a separate line above the keyboard. There is Swype, which makes correspondence even faster, practically eliminating typos.

Email

To work with e-mail it starts automatic setting mailbox(unless it's Gmail, which connects immediately after the email address was entered during the initial activation of the phone). It includes entering basic information (login, password). The phone perfectly understands various encodings and supports loading attachments in familiar formats.

When creating a letter, you can also attach various files from the device memory to it. The function of copying text and automatically checking the mailbox works (the interval is set manually). Sorting mail by date, subject, sender and size works.

Camera

The smartphone uses a 5-megapixel module with autofocus and LED flash. To launch the camera, use a dedicated key on the side of the smartphone. By holding it down for a few seconds, the shooting mode starts; this can be done from any application; it is not necessary to go to the main menu.

The screen displays auxiliary icons that make it easier to set up photography modes and conditions. 5 small icons are displayed on the side - the phone shows the last received frames. Pulling the icons to the side opens a gallery of captured images.

Various options are available:

Image capture mode: normal, scene recognition, front camera, panoramic view, 3D view.

Flash: auto, off, fill, red-eye reduction.

Photo resolution: 5M (2592x1944), 3 MP (2048x1536), 2M (1600x1200 pixels) 16:9 or 4:3.

Timer: 2.10 seconds.

Smile detection: big, medium, small.

Geotagging.

Shooting method: On-screen button, touch shooting, key only.

I think that for clarity, it makes sense to show the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V next to the Sony Xperia U, so that you can evaluate the shooting quality of both smartphones on automatic mode. The quality is good with sufficient lighting.

On the left is Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V, on the right is Sony Xperia U:

Gallery

Photos and videos stored in the smartphone's memory are displayed here. The gallery works in both vertical and horizontal orientation. Working with files is accompanied by nice animation effects. Working with files is fast, image previews are generated without any special delays. Pictures are displayed in a 2x3 or 3x2 grid, depending on the position of the device.

The preview folders contain smaller pictures, so that not 3, but 4 pictures can be placed vertically. The image opens in full screen, scaling works using multi-touch. Files can be sent via email, Bluetooth, SMS or posted to Picasa. You can assign images as desktop wallpaper or assign them to a contact. It supports rotating pictures, reducing their size, and also displays additional information about a specific file, and also shows the place where the picture was taken if geotagging is working.

Images are shown both in folders (for example, received via Bluetooth, photo section) and ordered by date. This makes it very convenient to view photos - there are several sections in the same folder. You can scroll either using the bar displayed at the bottom of the screen or by simply touching the screen with your fingers anywhere on it.

There is also a second gallery option, which is available on any Android ICS device. It works faster, I like its design better. The functionality of the applications is similar, but the second one is equipped with a built-in photo editor that allows you to apply various effects.

The video is played from the gallery, where a separate folder is allocated for the videos. There's nothing special to say about the phone here. There is no support for the DivX and XviD codecs in the smartphone, so the capabilities for playing video out of the box are quite modest. You won't be able to watch anything without an additional player, so it's worth visiting the app store.

Timescape

Timescape combines tabs that combine messages from different social networks: Facebook, Twitter. In addition, there is data on phone calls, SMS and MMS, and email. The displayed data can be customized, and unnecessary data can be hidden. The update is also installed: manually or automatically.

Messages are presented in the form of translucent panels on which the name of the sender, the text of the message itself, as well as the source where the message came from are written. The ability to customize the background has disappeared; now it is a constant blue color. The list scrolls very quickly, without a hint of delay. In general, the thing is beautiful and interesting, the main drawback is related to the not very beautiful design - if the author of the message has an avatar, then this image will be displayed stretched across the entire width of the transparent panel.

Player

To listen to music, you can select tracks organized into several categories: artist, album, tracks, lists. In the latter case, there are automatic playlists (recently added, popular tracks, never played), and manual listening lists are also created.

From the list with music, you can add songs to a playlist or send them via MMS, Bluetooth or email. The screen displays the name of the artist, the name of the album and the song being played. In music playback mode, a large album cover is displayed (if it was assigned previously), and there are playback control buttons on the screen. If desired, the song is set as a ringtone. Equalizer settings are also available. These are the following presets: normal sound, classical, dance, flat sound, folk, heavy metal, hip-hop, jazz, pop, rock. There are no manual settings.

While listening to music, you can find information about the artist - a list of videos available for viewing on YouTube is displayed, learn about him, and see the lyrics of the song.

The sound quality is very good for the Android segment. There is sufficient volume reserve, the mid frequencies are well developed, and the lower range is also quite good. Fans of deep bass can try playing with the equalizer, which will help change the sound image, albeit not without some distortion. It can also be noted that a widget has been added to control music when the screen is locked, which was previously missing.

Radio

The smartphone has a radio receiver that has the function automatic search stations. You can also save several dozen frequencies in the phone's memory. You can easily switch between your favorite stations by clicking on a small icon that will automatically move between the saved waves.

TrackID allows you to identify a melody playing on the radio on your smartphone or somewhere nearby. Not only the song title will be displayed, but also the album title, artist name and cover art.

Organizer

The calendar in the device is made in a traditional style; the display of information for a whole month, week or a specific day can be configured. You can set the alert type and tone for recorded events and meetings. There is a division of information by storage location, each option has its own color label.

While creating new entry it is given a name, a period and a place. You can specify which calendar it will be synchronized with; you can send invitations to contacts from notebook. The repetition period is set (every day, weekly, monthly, yearly). A reminder will help you not to lose sight of the recording; the alarm will go off in advance.

Alarm

The smartphone allows you to save several alarms in memory. The repeat can be set either once or every day, only on weekdays or weekly. You can also set specific days. The signal melody is set, you can add a vibration alert and a text file to it. Sets the period for the signal to be triggered again.

The phone screen can display the weather forecast, date and time in large characters.

The calculator works in both portrait and landscape orientation. It is equipped with an additional menu.

Works in a smartphone Google search, which searches both the contents of the device and through the browser. Recent queries that were entered on the computer may also be displayed; the phone will use the account.

Among the rich assortment Google Play the buyer can evaluate thousands of applications and select the necessary set of applications. There is a convenient search function, as well as dividing programs into categories, which greatly simplifies browsing. You can look at the reviews, evaluate the rating and express your opinion about the software. Each application is provided with a brief description and images for greater clarity. Purchased applications are displayed in a separate list, which is convenient: if purchased new phone, you can immediately install those programs that you previously purchased.

YouTube is a standard application for most modern devices that allows you to view videos and search among them. The application runs in full screen mode.

The Facebook application will allow you to communicate on the network of the same name directly from your mobile device.

Google Talk chat is working.

The file browser is useful for various operations with data in the smartphone’s memory.

News and weather are displayed.

DLNA support allows you to view photos and videos wirelessly from compatible devices.

There is a built-in Office Suite application that displays files in “office” formats, but does not have the ability to edit them. If necessary, you can buy full version.

Browser

A convenient application is used for Internet surfing. A navigation bar is displayed at the top of the screen, and to the right of it there is a shortcut that allows you to bookmark the page. The phone remembers the most visited pages and has a log of pages viewed.

Several windows open, search for words on the page, highlight text, as well as a practical function for changing the screen brightness directly from the browser. Thanks to multi-touch, pages can be easily scaled (virtual keys also work to change the size of what is displayed). The font size changes, password saving works, flash is supported.

For thrifty users, there is Opera Mini, which uses traffic sparingly, while at the same time speeding up data loading.

GPS navigation

For navigation, Google Maps is used - standard software for all Android phones. The only drawback is that the program requires constant network activity, which affects the amount of traffic consumed by the device. Traffic jams are displayed, so the application has become fully functional and convenient not only for pedestrians, but also for car owners.

There is a function for determining the current location, calculating the route from the starting point to the ending point, and specifying the method of movement: by car, on foot or public transport. The route is laid out on the map, and key places are indicated in the form of text messages, which are displayed on the screen in the form of a column; you can switch between them: view the route in advance or vice versa, go back and plot another path. Scaling works using multi-touch or virtual buttons.

Settings

There are standard settings that are present in any Android smartphone. This section allows you to manage the capabilities of your smartphone in terms of modifying the interface, as well as change various phone parameters. The smartphone offers you to use a convenient proprietary application that will configure all key parameters. If you don’t use it immediately after purchase, you can return to it later.

Connections

The smartphone operates in the GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS 900/1700/2100 bands. There is Bluetooth 2.1 with support for EDR and A2DP, in addition to support for other generally accepted profiles.

Wi-Fi b/g/n works at the usual level. The smartphone remembers entered passwords for networks and can automatically connect to them while within their range. Modem and access point modes are provided. MicroHDMI allows you to connect your smartphone to various external sources (TV or monitor) and broadcast media content to them using the included cable.

Working hours

A lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 1500 mAh is used. Official data on operating time is as follows: up to 7 hours talk time, up to 430 hours battery life standby time, up to 31 hours listening to music.

On average, the phone works for a day, sometimes a day and a half with a light load. With 20-30 minutes of calls per day, 20-30 photos, 2 hours of listening to the player, 30-60 minutes of using network applications (browser, Twitter), as well as using continuous synchronization with Google services, by the evening there was about 15-20% of the battery fully charged in the morning. In this case, the screen brightness was set to the maximum value.

During continuous movie playback with the following settings: maximum level display backlight, synchronization turned on, Wi-Fi working, the smartphone lasted 9 hours 15 minutes. An excellent result, but it is worth remembering that the screen is not nearly as bright as its analogues. Accordingly, this helps him work longer, all other things being equal.

Conclusion

The speaker is good, there are no problems with volume, there is enough sound reserve for various conditions. The vibration alert is rather weak and cannot always be felt. But it is compensated by sonorous melodies with which the phone notifies the owner.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V differs slightly from . Among Sony products, it occupies an average position: somewhat more expensive than the popular one, but at the same time cheaper than the recently introduced new products in the Xperia line.

In this case, it turns out to be direct competition with the Xperia U. Which smartphone is more interesting? In terms of design, I like the Xperia U better; it also wins in terms of screen quality. It has a modified player, and there will be an update to Android version 4. But at the same time, the main problem of the device is the small amount of built-in memory. The Xperia Neo V has no problems with this; installing a card of the required size is not difficult. The devices are similar in speed and functionality. The cameras are also of a fairly close level; you can safely put an equal sign between them.

They ask for about 10,500-11,000 rubles for the device, which is quite adequate based on the qualities of the smartphone. Users can upgrade to new version Android and Sony keep their promises and release new firmware versions. Sony also has a smartphone with a memory card in its arsenal; this is a new one, which costs about 14,000 rubles. This is already a full-fledged replacement for Neo and Neo V, so buyers have a fairly large choice between the company’s models. Neo V - for those who want everything at once for a minimal price, Xperia U with an emphasis on design and Xperia Sola, which offers both the style and functions of the 2012 line.

The line of smartphones released by Sony Ericsson, over time, increasingly ceased to meet the requirements of modern consumers, who were constantly watching the technological innovations of other companies. Over time, devices such as the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, which were based on Android, began to come out.

In the wake of the great popularity of this operating system, many companies tried to succeed (and not unsuccessfully) and released their flagship devices based on it. The manufacturer's plans for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo were exactly the same, as a result of which, in addition to this device, three other smartphones from a fairly high price segment were also announced.

Story

It is worth noting the fact that, by coincidence, the demonstration of this device was postponed in Japan, despite the fact that at that time it was one of the most widespread devices in the future. Initially, the company planned to launch this device in April, that is, to launch shipments of Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo and Xperia Arc simultaneously, but they rightly decided that in a situation of a serious shortage of components, it is best to give priority in production to more expensive devices, which are currently sold at a price of approximately 25,000 rubles. It is worth noting the fact that the cost of Neo was planned to be around 19,000 rubles, and for this price this mobile phone could be called a very, very balanced device, the characteristics of which it was practically not inferior to its flagship counterparts, not counting the different design and not so large display.

How relevant is it?

For most Sony users Ericsson Xperia Neo represents the golden mean, since it is unlikely that you can find at least one other such device that, at its price, would have approximately the same characteristics. For example, if we take into account the HTC Desire S, the technical characteristics of which are close to this model, then its price is 22,000 rubles, and smartphones from Samsung also have approximately the same cost.

Design

Thanks to Sony phone Ericsson Xperia Neo is equipped with a 3.7-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 16:9, it can be called a fairly compact device, as a result of which it will definitely appeal to those people who are not used to carrying too large mobile phones. The body width of this phone reaches 57 mm, thanks to which it has become especially widespread, since similar models from other manufacturers were at least 1 cm wider, which is not such a small difference for most people.

If you take a closer look at the characteristics of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, you can pay special attention to the thickness of the body of 13 mm, which is especially smoothed by the oval profile and beveled ends. In principle, in terms of design there are no quarrels with this device, since it is a slightly modernized design of the Vivaz phone, which has been somewhat modified with the help of very, very successful elements. The end result is a very good device that stands out among other smartphones using this operating system.

Frame

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo smartphone has a body that is called Human Curvature, that is, its main advantage is that it fully matches the shape of a human hand. This case is made of specialized smooth plastic, and the phone range includes several colors: red, black and silver. It is worth noting that user reviews of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo specifically note the dirtyness of the black phone of this model, while the red and silver devices are more stable in this case. Perhaps this is why red phones of this model are most widely used, since they do not have any fingerprints.

Control

The controls are almost identical to those used in the previously released Vivaz device, that is, there is a round button on the right side designed to lock or turn off the phone, and there is also a long button that can be used to adjust the volume if necessary. At the top end you can find all the necessary outputs (HDMI, micro-USB, 3.5 mm headphone output). It is worth noting that the headphone jack in the similar flagship Arc is located on the side, so the ability to more conveniently connect headphones in this phone can be called an additional advantage.

Below the screen there are three buttons that many users are familiar with from Arc. If you take a quick look at the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, you will see that there is no dedicated search button, which will be an advantage for some people, but a definite disadvantage for others. Above the screen there is exactly the same set of components - these are light and proximity sensors, as well as a standard earpiece.

Front-camera

What immediately catches your eye is that it has a fairly large lens, and this can be called another advantage compared to the flagship Arc model of that time, because in principle it completely lacked such a camera. This camera has 1.3 megapixels, that is, it is quite enough to make video calls with acceptable quality, and if at that time video calls were not yet in such great demand, today the use of such a device is quite relevant and can hardly be called a mere tribute to fashion. .

Screen

It is worth noting the fact that even at that time Sony Ericsson could hardly be called a leader in terms of the quality of the screens used, because it did not produce any models that used an AMOLED display. On the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo photo you can see that the company began to use specialized software solutions, such as the Sony Bravia Mobile Engine, which showed themselves quite successfully in the company’s TVs, where they were used for signal pre-processing. Thus, the overall quality of images and videos during viewing is greatly improved.

If we take into account the fact that the device uses a specialized Live Color filter, the picture of this smartphone is much more contrasting, clear and realistic, but we should not forget that this feature of this device is not hardware, but software, as a result of which it can be turn it on or off in the settings, and at the same time it works exclusively with graphics, that is, you will not notice any changes in the menu.

Neo and AMOLED

Of course, it is worth noting the fact that the image quality on this screen can hardly be compared in principle with what modern AMOLED taps provide, as well as displays on the iPhone, but progress is being made, and the overall impression of the device is much better compared to that which could be observed on the previous Xperia X10. It is worth noting the fact that this model does not have the greatest viewing angles, as a result of which the image on the phone fades significantly when tilted, but this is a completely standard limitation for all TFT displays.

Hardware platform

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo manual states that the hardware platform of this device is similar to the flagship Arc, which is its undoubted advantage, given its cost. The platform in this device is a Qualcomm QDS8255, the frequency of which is 1 GHz. Theoretically, the difference is due to low power consumption, as well as more efficient optimization, but in fact, practice has shown that, in principle, there is practically no technical difference. Regardless of any additional conditions, Arc was compared by the manufacturer with the most modern dual-core competitors, so for Neo such a hardware platform is more than optimal.

Battery

For any smartphone that is based on the Android operating system, power consumption is a particularly sore subject, and with increasing characteristics it only gets worse. The situation regarding the power consumption of these smartphones looks somewhat better, and at the same time, in practice, the device shows longer performance compared to competitors with similar parameters. Most likely, this is also due to the use of updated screen technology, as well as a simpler interface, however, in the case of fairly intense loads, the operating time of this smartphone continues throughout the daylight hours, and this is quite normal for Android.

Memory

The initial memory capacity reaches 512 MB, of which a little more than 300 MB remain free, that is, among analogues, these indicators are not advanced, but at the same time quite normal. Moreover, if there is enough RAM in this device, then using an additional array of built-in memory would be a good solution. In Android 2.2 and higher, you can install all kinds of applications directly onto the memory card, but in fact this memory is seriously lacking. Similar devices released by Samsung, Nokia and Motorola have a built-in 8-16 GB array, while the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo differs only in the presence of an 8 GB memory card, which comes standard in the kit.

Thus, this model It stands out quite well even among the vast majority of modern phones, especially considering the cost of this smartphone today. In terms of technical characteristics, the smartphone can compete with many modern devices, although its only drawback, in which it is definitely inferior even to devices of its time, is its display, since the company could already use a more modern type of screen.

Round table, the main people of Sony Ericsson discuss plans.

“Remember our SE Vivaz? It seems like a good device, and it takes excellent pictures, and the sound in it is good, and the screen, and the design, the design is so unusual and users liked it so much. One problem, our Vivaz is built on the basis of an operating system that starts with a bad letter and works the same way. Maybe we’ll take Android and put it there, and leave everything else as it was?”

No sooner said than done.

“About a year ago, the Finns showed a new flagship, Nokia N97 mini, and before that just N97. It looks really good, the keyboard is comfortable, the shape of the case, and the white color are interesting. True, the hardware and OS there are old. Maybe we’ll change the hardware and OS, and take the design?”

No sooner said than done.

Well, you yourself know about the Xperia X10, which was put under pressure and received Arc.

Of course, everything probably wasn’t like that, but after getting acquainted with the new “robots” of Sony Ericsson, this is exactly the picture that appears in my head.

Arc

We won’t dwell on the SE Arc in detail; we already have material on this device, and everything was known about it even before the start of MWC 2011. The smartphone reminds me of the Xperia X10 after the latter was taken out of the press or driven over it with a roller. Although it's hard to argue with the fact that Arc is actually very thin. And the noticeable area of the case only enhances the effect of its thinness.

The smartphone has hardware keys under the display, which is nice. A 4.2" screen is also a plus. By and large, Arc should be a work on the mistakes made when creating the Xperia X10. More precisely, on one mistake, the very, very crude final firmware with which the X10 entered the market. If Arc will be stable, it will not have banal glitches and bugs that we could see on the Xperia X10 - I see no reason for this smartphone not to become popular. But, of course, it will not become as popular as the next guest.

  • Screen: 4.2”, 480x854 pixels, LED-backlit LC, displays up to 16 million colors

Neo

This is the right Vivaz: with a cool camera, unusual design, multi-colored cases and high-quality sound. On the stable, pah-pah, operating system Android 2.3. Preview on the website. What else should I add? In the first Vivaz everything was good except the software component, if in the Neo everything except this very component remained from the first Vivaz, and the system was replaced, the device is simply bound to become a hit. Of course, at a reasonable price.

  • Interfaces: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR (A2DP), microUSB connector (USB 2.0) for charging/synchronization, 3.5 mm headset jack

Pro

You know, the black Xperia Pro does not at all resemble the Nokia N97. Judge for yourself.

But, on the other hand, the Xperia Pro is white – it reminds.

Or maybe it’s just me imagining it. It seems to me that the SE Xperia Pro, despite its attractive characteristics and design, is a pass-through device. Not because they made it that way, but because the form factor of QWERTY smartphones has been more dead than alive for many years now. Yes, the recent release of Desire Z showed that it is possible to make an attractive QWERTY slider. But Desire Z is also perceived as quality smartphone with an appendage in the form of a keyboard, and not like a keyboard smartphone. This is an exception.

The entire line of “robots” presented by the company evokes warm feelings in me. I sincerely want to believe that the new devices will be devoid of childhood problems inherent in the SE XPERIA X1 communicator that appeared two years ago and the XPERIA X10 smartphone a year ago. And then Sony Ericsson has every chance to become a significant player in the Android device market.

The top end of the device carries the entire communication load; there are MicroUSB and HDMI ports, as well as a 3.5 mm headset jack. On the bottom, in turn, there is a microphone hole and an eyelet for a wrist strap.

The dimensions of the device are quite consistent with the modern idea of what a touchscreen candy bar should be. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo fits well in the hand and feels just as good in the pocket. This, however, has already been discussed. And in general, this device can be given the highest rating for its external design and ergonomics. The glossy finish spoils the overall impression a little, but such a stylish appearance is achieved largely thanks to it. A matte finish would definitely make the smartphone less attractive. So you have to come to terms with it.

Hardware, camera, battery life

The heart of the smartphone is a single-core Qualcomm MSM8255 processor with clock frequency 1 GHz. By the way, the same hardware base is used in the flagship Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, and in many competing smartphones, for example, in HTC Desire S.

As you well know, this is not the height of technological perfection; dual-core ones are coming into fashion mobile processors. Still, the single-core Qualcomm processor provides sufficient performance for basic tasks. The Adreno 205 graphics core helps him in this, which takes care of video decoding, processing videos from the built-in camera and graphics in 3D games. If you compare the performance of the Xperia Neo with the performance of dual-core smartphones in synthetic tests, the difference is, of course, obvious. However, there are no slowdowns in operation. Xperia Neo copes well with displaying heavy websites, PDF documents, WVGA movies and HD videos from the built-in camera.

The amount of RAM on the smartphone is not as large as we would like - 512 MB, but the same amount, for example, is installed in the iPhone 4. So the amount of RAM in this case will not become a factor limiting performance. By the way, half a gigabyte is the ceiling for Sony Ericsson devices; the same amount of memory is available for Xperia flagship Arc.

Only 320 MB of memory is provided for data storage, but the emphasis here is not on it at all, but on the microSDHC card slot, which allows you to use cards with a capacity of up to 32 GB. In the box with the device you will find an 8 GB card, which you can get by with.

In terms of communications, everything is standard. There is a Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n module with the ability to organize mobile point access, Bluetooth 2.1. As for wired communication, it is provided by micro-USB and HDMI ports. The latter is used to connect external screens, but, as practice shows, connecting monitors or TVs to mobile phones is used extremely rarely. There is also navigation provided by a GPS module, which supports Assisted GPS (A-GPS) receiver cold start acceleration technology and, of course, is based on Google Maps.
