"Creating an online store on Prestashop" is the first video course in Russia on one of the world's most popular CMS online stores - Prestashop.

In the video course, we will create a real online store, and consider the process of managing it.

Creating an online store on prestashop 1.6

Professional online store in a few simple steps

LET'S GET ACQUAINTED

Hello!

I have been working in a web studio for about 8 years, specializing in creating online stores. I can create online stores on 4 different platforms, as well as program myself.

I decided to combine my knowledge of working with CMS Prestashop and record a video course in which we will create a fully functioning online store selling smartphones, tablets and other electronics.

Why Prestashop?

When creating the course, I proceeded from the fact that you need an engine that allows you to create an online store without special technical knowledge, i.e. so that any merchant who wants to create an online store can do it in a few simple steps. Prestashop fully meets this requirement. But ease of use does not mean limited functionality. Prestashop is one of the leaders today. In 2011, it was recognized as the best CMS for creating online stores, and since then the system has evolved and improved. Prestashop is used in over 200 countries around the world. And to date, about 250,000 online stores have been created on this engine. Prestashop is a solution that allows you to create professional, modern online stores with good functionality. It has a large number of modules and templates.

Prestashop is easy to learn, unlike for example Magento, Goomla Virtuemart or Ubercart. Goomla Virtuemart is quite difficult to master, and it initially has limited functionality, and additional modules for it are paid. Virtuemart also requires knowledge of PHP at least at an intermediate level. This is not suitable for a merchant who wants to start his online business. Ubercart is also very difficult to learn and use.

The second reason is that there is no full-fledged information and courses on Prestashop on the Internet, there are bits of information that cannot give an idea of working with this engine.

The third reason for choosing Prestashop is that the developers of this CMS are constantly working to improve it, new updates and extensions are often released, the official Prestashop Addons store has a large number of templates for every taste. Also, modules and templates can be found on other resources on the Internet.

It is also a plus that the Russian-speaking community of users is quite large. There are Prestashop support forums in Runet.

In a few words, Prestashop can be described as: an easy-to-use engine that has high performance.

Benefits of Prestashop

  • One of the world leaders among the CMS of online stores
  • No technical knowledge required
  • Online store adaptability
  • High security
  • Regular updates
  • The presence of Russian-language forums in Runet
  • Quick creation of an online store
  • A large number of modules to increase sales
  • Extensive statistics
  • Quick connection of payment systems
  • Setting up a flexible discount system
  • Convenient interface for work
  • Availability of all necessary documents, invoices and invoices
  • Convenient and understandable graphs and charts
  • Professional Support
  • Over 2500 modules!

All these strengths make Prestashop one of the most popular online store CMS in the world today.

In total, about 250,000 online stores have been created on Prestashop.

Benefits of this course

With this video course, you will learn how to create modern, functional online stores.

The video course "Creating an online store on Prestashop" is the first video course on the Internet on CMS Prestashop, which has no analogues. And in which the whole process of creating and managing an online store is clearly explained.

I tried to write this course as clearly as possible, and in order to use this knowledge, it is enough to have a computer at the level of an ordinary user, and no technical knowledge is required. Of course, knowledge of HTML, CSS and PHP is desirable in order to understand how the code is formed, but not required.

The knowledge gained after studying this course will allow you to create online stores for yourself if you plan to do an online business; you can also do online shopping to order. Fortunately, the crisis and sanctions did not really affect the entrepreneurial spirit of our citizens, business in our country is slowly but developing, including online business, the demand for creating online stores is high, and you can easily apply the acquired knowledge, for example, in freelancing, getting a job in web studio, or organize your own website development studio.

The cost of creating an online store starts from at least 40,000 rubles, and more, up to several million rubles. The knowledge gained from the course "Creating an online store on Prestashop" will allow you to save a lot.

In November 2016, Prestashop version 1.7 was released. Creating an online store on it is not fundamentally different from version 1.6. The changes are not significant. After completing this course, you will also be able to work on Prestashop 1.7.

Brief Description of the HTML Block

A web page is a system of blocks of HTML elements with its own content (content) in each block, for example,

Price: 20 rub.

Super hook module

The example shows two blocks highlighted in green and orange in different colors. Each block, in addition to the content inside (Price: 20 rubles and the Super Hook Module), is framed by so-called tags. The first tag is the opening block, the second with a dash is the closing one, in our case it is

and , which in turn have their own identifier (id) and class (class). They are intended for visual design (stylization) of the site page using CSS technology, where they are called the id selector and the class selector.

In order to distinguish them in CSS, they are denoted using signs. For id, this is a hash mark #, and for class, a dot. For example, in our example, id='cena' would be denoted as

And class='nazvanie_product' will be denoted as

Name_product.

Also, these selectors are used in JavaScript and jQuery in order to bind the script to a specific block.

In addition, CSS uses type selectors. These are the parts of the tag. In our case, this is a div type selector and a span type selector.

Defining a selector using the Mozilla FireFox browser

The easiest way to define a selector is with Mozilla. I'll show you how it's done. We open the page with the product and this time we will transfer, which is now under the button to the basket, above the price tag of the product. That is, we need to define the block selector with the price of the product as the parent block and the module selector as the child block. Opening an additional panel in FireFox is the same as in Chrome, the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl + Shift + I. Then in the menu of the additional field on the left we find the arrow (select page element) and click it. Now, swiping the cursor over the site page, we see the selection of blocks. Hover the cursor over the block with the price tag and when selecting this block, click on it. Now the beginning of the html block is highlighted in the additional field

We click on it with the right mouse button and in the window that appears, select the item "copy unique selector".

We do the same with the module Additional information

in the module settings field Module selector or HTML code, enter the child selector.block_wnd

Select the position in relation to the block “Inside the block below” And save the result.

Defining Selectors Using the Google Chrome Browser

In the Super Hook module, you need to specify the block selector (parent block) to which we want to bind the module block (child block). These selectors are very easy to define using the Google Chrome browser. To do this, open the developer tool in the browser using the key combination Ctrl + Shift + I or simply hover over the site page and press the right mouse button. And in the drop-down menu, select View element code. An additional window will open displaying html code and a small window on the right with CSS code. The window has a menu with a mobile phone magnifying glass and tab names beginning with Elements.

At the bottom of the selected field, we see a footnote with the selectors we need to configure the module. The picture shows a div type selector, an id selector

#short_description_content

The following are class selectors separated by a dot, but we are not interested in them. We are only interested in the main id selector. It will be needed as a pointer to the parent block. In the module settings, in the Block selector field, write this block identifier

#short_description_content

Now let's attach the payment logos module to this block, which is now under the add to cart button. To do this, we need to define a logo block selector.

And I'll show you the second way. Let's switch in the lower window in the developer tools menu to the Elements position. And hover over the payment logos module. Right click. In the drop-down list, select the lower tab View Element Code. In the developer window in the HTML code, move the mouse cursor until the logos module block is highlighted in blue and you see the opening div tag with id='product_payment_logos'. This is the child ID. Let's write it in the module settings in the "Module selector or HTML code" field as a selector

#product_payment_logos

Let's select a position in relation to the block in the settings with the value "Under the block" and save the result.

Go to the site page and see the result

Video instruction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5UafCGsr-U

Thus, we can move the module block, and not only the module, to any place on the site page. Wrapping is limited only to the page itself. Transferring to another page is not possible.

Additional module features

As you can see, there are a few more fields on the settings page that we did not fill out. I will describe what they are for using an example. The module allows, in addition to transferring blocks, to supplement the page with its content using HTML, JS and CSS technologies. For example, let's add the VKontakte group widget to the sidebar of the site to begin with.

So let's define a parent selector. For example, I suggest the categories module in the sidebar.

Copy the HTML code

< div id = "vk_groups" > < / div >

and paste it into the "Module selector or HTML block" field

The PrestaShop engine requires a MySQL database to store information. Before starting the installation of PrestaShop, make sure that the MySQL database has already been created. You can do this through your hosting control panel using the phpMyAdmin tool.

See detailed instructions on how to create a MySQL database. If you have any difficulties at this stage, then contact your hoster for help.

When creating a MySQL database, you will need to specify the database name, username, password, and remember the address of the database server. Save all this data as you will need it when installing PrestaShop.

Installing the PrestaShop Engine

1. Server requirements

Make sure your hosting meets PrestaShop system requirements:

  1. System: Unix, Linux or Windows. Unix is recommended.
  2. Web server: Apache Web server 1.3 or later, Microsoft's IIS Web server 6.0 or later, and nginx 1.0 or later.
  3. PHP 5.2 * or newer.
  4. MySQL 5.0 or newer.
  5. At least 32 Mb RAM on the server (64 Mb is better, the more the better).

PrestaShop will work with PHP 5.1 and later, but versions prior to 5.2 contain bugs that may cause some functions to not work (incorrect time zone selection).

2. Loading

To install PrestaShop you will need to download the engine from the official website www.prestashop.com/ru/download

Enter your name and e-mail in the download section and click the button "Download".

Make sure you download the version of PrestaShop that meets the requirements of the template you choose. All versions of PrestaShop are available on.

3. Extract files

After downloading PrestaShop, you will need to extract the files and folders from the archive.

You can do it with programs WinZip(PC), StuffitExpander(MAC) etc.

See the following instructions for extracting files from WinZip (PC) and StuffitExpander (MAC) archives.

Attention: if the function is available in the control panel of your hosting "Unpack" files, you can upload the .zip archive itself to the server and unpack it there.

4. Uploading PrestaShop Engine Files

In case you unpacked the files locally on your computer, you will need to upload them to the hosting server.

This can be done using the File Manager in your hosting control panel or using FTP managers like FileZilla, TotalCommander, CureFTP, etc.

You can watch the video tutorial How to upload files to the server or How to upload files using cPanel (WebHost Manager, WHM) .

5. Installing the PrestaShop Engine

When all the necessary files are uploaded to the server, you can start installing the PrestaShop engine. Open your browser and in the address bar write the domain name and the path to the folder with Prestashop "domain_name/path_to_PrestaShop_directory" and go to this page. You should see a welcome page. Follow the instructions on it to install PrestaShop.

Step 1: Installation Assistant (Language Selection)

Select installation language

Attention: the installation language will not affect the language of your store. By default, the installation is offered in English. You can install localization packs to change the language of the store.

Step 2: Installation Assistant (License Agreement)

Read the license agreement.

Once completed, click the "Next" button.

Step 3: System Compatibility

Check PHP settings and folder permissions. In case of any errors, contact your hoster for help.

If there are no errors, click the "Next" button.

Step 4: Store Tincture

At this point, you'll need to set up the store. Specify: Store name, currency, time zone, upload a logo, etc.

All this data can then be edited through the PrestaShop control panel.

Step 5: System setup

You already have a MySQL database. Specify the data to access it in the appropriate fields.

You can get the necessary data through your hosting control panel or by contacting the host.

Once completed, click the "Next" button.

Step 6: Finishing the installation

This is the final stage of the installation.

To be safe, you need to delete the folder /install/ from your server.

Starting from version 1.5.4, PrestaShop takes care of changing the name of the folder containing the control panel: it contains the word "admin" followed by four random numbers, for example "admin8814". The name change happens the moment you enter the "admin" folder for the first time: PrestaShop will rename it and then move to the folder with the new name.

Log in to your PrestaShop control panel by going to the newly renamed "admin" folder and you can start populating your store.

In case of any difficulties, you can refer to the official PrestaShop instructions.

Installing a PrestaShop Template

If you do not want to waste your time installing a template, you can always order a template installation service using our chat.

The Dump.sql file can be installed through the phpMyAdmin tool or your host's database panel. You might find the How to import a SQL dump guide helpful.

Make sure your version of PrestaShop meets the requirements of the template you are installing. Otherwise, the database will be damaged.

After the import of the dump.sql file is finished, you will need to activate the template.

In your PrestaShop dashboard go to Preferences > Themes, select the desired template in the section Themes and press Save.

3. Adding a language to the store.

After installing the multilingual template, you will need to install the required languages (English, Russian, French, Spanish, German). This can be done like this:
