Where is the city of kolobrzeg located in poland? Resorts of Poland

11.05.2021

For half my life I have heard enthusiastic stories about the Kolobrzeg resort from my Polish relatives, friends and colleagues. Finally, I decided to go myself: what if there really is something special there?

Yes, the city turned out to be beautiful: forests and clean sandy beaches, lakes, sea, healing air ... There is even mineral water in Kolobrzeg and healing mud, which are very favored by older men.

Pros of staying in Kolobrzeg:
  • Convenient location. It is very easy to get to Kolobrzeg by train or bus. There are regular flights from all major cities in Poland.
  • Treatment. The natural features of Kolobrzeg help to heal skin diseases, have a positive effect on metabolism, the general tone of the body, and the nervous system. Many health and wellness programs available in Kolobrzeg cannot be replicated in other health resorts.
  • Beaches. In Kolobrzeg, wonderful conditions for recreation have been created. A wide sandy beach stretches for 12 kilometers along the coast. There are rental shops for sun loungers and umbrellas, water sports equipment, cafes and bars everywhere. The beach is very large, and even with the influx of tourists, it is not particularly crowded and noisy.
  • Cultural life. Music festivals are regularly held in Kolobrzeg: Interfolk, Soldier's Song Festival, Musical Summer. Connoisseurs of classical music come to the city in October. At this time, the Kolobrzeg Chamber Concerts festival takes place.
  • Cleanliness and tidiness. Kolobrzeg is a very clean and well-kept city.
Cons of rest in Kolobrzeg:
It is inconvenient to get there by plane. The nearest airport is in Szczecin, 115 kilometers from Kolobrzeg.
Kolobrzeg health programs are unacceptable during pregnancy, all types of tumors and active tuberculosis.
Prices. Hotels in Kolobrzeg are very comfortable, but not cheap. A four-star room costs about 80 euros per day.
Few attractions.

Lack for an amateur, but for me personally - one of the defining ones. There are many establishments for fans of nightlife restaurants in the city, so it gets very noisy in the evenings during the season. Young people walk until morning both on the streets and on the beaches.

I advise:
If you do not like noisy and active rest, go to the “velvet season”. By that time, there were noticeably fewer young people and families with children in Kolobrzeg, and musical events had already taken place.
Take the city map from the Lontów tower. By the way, the old tower, where the tourist information office is located, is the powder warehouse of the former medieval fortress!
Take a boat trip to the German islands of Boriholm and Ruggia. Very exciting! You can take this excursion both in hotels and directly at the port.
If you love fishing, you will love Kolobrzeg. All conditions have been created there for fishermen!
Fans of fish and seafood dishes are highly recommended to visit local restaurants. Each of them offers a stunning assortment of "seafood". I liked the Smażalnia Ryb U Mirka restaurant. They serve both "sea bastard" and Polish cuisine.
Separate advice for those who came for treatment. Mineral and salt springs are great and they suit everyone. But for men over middle age, I advise you to pay attention to Kolobrzeg peat. By official version- it is used to treat rheumatism. Locals claim that it has the effect of Viagra. Doctors also agree with this.
Kolobrzeg, despite its history and antiquity, is not rich in sights. The city was badly damaged during the wars, and after the Second World War it was rebuilt. However, there are interesting places there too.

Go to the "New Old Town". These are quarters, rebuilt in the twentieth century, but stylized in antiquity. A very good solution!

The southern part of the city will appeal to lovers of antiquity. Interesting Gothic buildings have survived there - the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the 14th century, where organ concerts are sometimes held, the old town hall, which now houses a gallery of modern art, the house of the Schlieffen townspeople of the 15th century, where now there are residential apartments.
Visit Fort Ustye - a fragment of an ancient fortress, where a museum is now working. There is also a restaurant and souvenir stalls, and observation deck.

Of course, the lighthouse next to the fort immediately attracts attention. It was built recently, after the Second World War, on the foundations of its predecessor. The old 17th century lighthouse was blown up by the Germans in 1945. The new lighthouse is 26 meters high and is open to the public. The ticket price is PLN 8.

Not far from the lighthouse there is a rather strange monument "The Betrothal of Poland with the Sea". They say that if you go through its arch, your wish will come true.

Museum of Polish Weapons. Perhaps this is the most popular place among tourists. The museum has two branches. The main building is next to the Schlieffen house. There is a part of the exposition in the open air, and in the halls are presented: medieval edged weapons, firearms, naval weapons and devices, an exhibition of ancient costumes. There is an exposition dedicated to the uprisings of the 18th-19th centuries. The branch located in the Braunschweig Palace usually hosts temporary exhibitions. There are also permanent ones - they are dedicated to the history of the city and the entire West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Thematic botanical gardens. In the Kolobrzeg suburb of Dobrzyce, there is an amazing botanical garden consisting of 28 themed zones. This is the only themed garden in Poland. The Hortulus Gardens are decorated in English, French, Japanese, Italian and other styles. I strongly advise photography lovers and those who want to relax in a paradise.

I do not recommend:
If you are coming to Kolobrzeg during the season, you should not come without prior hotel reservation. Especially during festivals, it is impossible to settle in the city.
You should not come to the sanatorium without a health card. Let it be in Russian, but it will be. This will help doctors navigate the appointment of procedures.

Don't go to nightclubs or restaurants without company. Locals love to "run up".

So, to go, or not to go? The resort, of course, is not for everybody, but for the sake of interest, of course, you need to go. If you plan a trip between musical events, or during the "velvet season", you can have a great rest and put your health in order! A bit of history

Once upon a time, on the site of a Slavic fortress, a city arose, it was named Kolobrzeg, which means "near the coast" in Russian. It is located on the shores of the Baltic Sea, not very affectionate, but very clean and beautiful. In fact, it is one of the oldest Polish cities. Kolobrzeg remembers many dramatic events, many rulers and pretenders to rule. In the old days, starting from the 7th century, salt springs are known, of which there are many in the vicinity of the city. The salt was evaporated and exported by sea to Scandinavia and Western Europe. It was the export of salt that allowed the city to become rich and prosperous.

At the very end of the 19th century, the Spa House was built on the seashore, an imposing building in the style of the German Renaissance. The spa house has become a perfectly equipped and very comfortable sanatorium with 1000 beds. It was here that the most authoritative International Medical Congress took place in 1911, which recognized Kolobrzeg as a resort of the highest category, which attracted the attention of many people. In the period between the world wars, up to 50,000 people a year rested here, and the resort was named “The Pearl of the Baltic”.

During the Second World War, Kolobrzeg was turned into a huge hospital, and the battles for it at the end of the war turned the city into solid ruins. In 1945, Kolobrzeg was returned to Poland, and a very difficult period of restoration and healing of the city's wounds began: by 1950 there were 7,000 inhabitants in the city against the pre-war 30,000. Only by the 60s of the 20th century, the population began to grow, large-scale construction and the revival of Kolobrzeg as a resort ...

Of the sights that are worth seeing while relaxing in Polish Kolobrzeg, it is worth recommending a few.

Or "Bazylika konkatedralna Wniebowziecia Najswietszej Maryi Panny" - a Catholic church in the Gothic style, built in the fourteenth century, badly damaged in 1945 by Soviet troops, but restored in 1957 by the Catholic community, and in 1986, erected in the status of "Small Basilica". The most valuable objects kept here: a Gothic four-meter candlestick, created in 1327, weighing up to nine hundred kilograms, a wooden altar from the fifteenth century, tombstones with epitaphs and images on biblical themes.

Or "Ratusz" - a historic building in the city center, where the city administration is located, and in the basement there are cafes with the "Adabar" music club. The town hall building was built in 1833, in the neo-Gothic style, designed by the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel from Germany. But the original structure was destroyed in 1807 during the siege of the city of Kolobrzeg by the soldiers of Napoleon's army. The siege lasted four months. The current building was erected on the ruins of the old town hall.

The main tower is decorated with a clock and the coat of arms of the city of Kolobrzeg. From the first building, only a shameful pillar of the sixteenth century, decorated with a carved mask, has survived to commemorate the future measures of the city that one should not abuse power, like their predecessor, the mayor of the city, James Adabar, who was beheaded in the same building of the town hall after the uprising of the local nobility. Fortunately, in 1945 the town hall building was not damaged at all.

Or "Fort Ujscie" - a fortification installed on the banks of the Parssenta, near the confluence with the Baltic Sea. It was built in 1774 to replace the ancient earthen castle that had been used in the defense of Kolobrzeg since 1627. Since the nineteenth century, a lighthouse has been erected on the territory of the fort. The fort also came in handy in the Second World War: behind its walls the small defenders of the city bravely held their defense. At the end of the war, the lighthouse was replaced by a structure that was not just a landmark for ships at sea, but also a monument to the honor and valor of the soldiers who liberated the Polish city of Kolobrzeg. The bastion is surrounded by a high wall and offers excellent sea views. Near the entrance gate there are souvenir shops where you can buy something to remember your vacation in Kolobrzeg.

Or “Muzeum Oreza Polskiego” - a very popular city museum, consisting of two branches, founded in 1963. It initially housed a modest collection of historic weapons, with a few heavy weapons in front of the building. But now the number of exhibits has increased several times and now there are: cars, helicopters, airplanes, cannons, howitzers, armored personnel carriers.

The main museum collection is located on Gerchak Street: ancient weapons - pikes, swords, rapiers, cannons, catapults, costumes of medieval warriors, a collection of firearms with rare and very valuable specimens, weapons and devices in any way connected with the sea. There is a historical exhibition here that tells about the uprisings of the inhabitants of Kolobrzeg from the eighteenth to the nineteenth century. Another branch, located in the Braunschweig Palace, hosts temporary exhibitions, but there are also halls with a permanent exhibition, where exhibits tell about the history of the city of Kolobrzeg and the West Pomeranian Voivodeship of Poland, in general.

Or "Hortulus Dobrzyca" - this unique botanical garden is located in the suburb of Dobrzyca. It operates all year round and includes twenty-eight thematic zones. Hortulus Gardens are divided into areas in Japanese, English, French, Italian styles. Very often, festive banquets, weddings, birthdays, photo shoots for various fashion magazines are held here. There are natural corners for every taste: heather fields, alpine meadows, Japanese rock gardens. And then there are gardens that affect the human senses: in the garden for sight - plants grow that have a single color range; in the garden of smell - there is a rose garden and thickets of a garden of fragrant herbs; in the garden for hearing - there is a water element, with its quiet splash and the rustle of meadow grass is heard; sensory gardens - delight with stunning landscapes and plant species. The theme park is expanding and constantly delights visitors with new bright expositions.

We told you about the excellent rest and treatment at the resort - Kolobrzeg, about its excellent hotels and sanatoriums, beaches and interesting sights.
