What is the screen of the iPhone 10. What is the diagonal and screen size of the iPhone X in inches? Only a new iPhone can be better than an iPhone

01.11.2021

The most long-awaited and most leaked iPhone in history is released on November 3. They called it iPhone X, but many do not know what its name sounds like: iPhone 10 or iPhone X.

This is perhaps the topic of today's article. I will tell you which of the options is correct to speak, based on the information that Apple gave us at the presentation on September 12.

iPhone X is 10 (ten) or X?

So, let's start with the fact that 2017 is an anniversary year for Apple and it was 10 years ago that the very first iPhone appeared, which could turn the whole world.

In honor of this event, they decided to create something unique and thus the iPhone X was born. We knew that there should be a unique model that would be different from everything that was before.

Starting in June 2017, we were simply bombarded with leaks, and almost every one of them said that it would be the iPhone 8. Therefore, all articles about the leaks were devoted to the iPhone 8 with photos of the iPhone X.

Only the last month gave us some information about a completely different name. Many were so wrong that it would be an iPhone X and we learned the truth only at the presentation.

Three models were born: iPhone 8, iPhone 8 PLUS and iPhone X. The iPhone 8, if you think logically, should have been called the 7S. But the company decided otherwise.

Returning to the topic, it turned out that the iPhone X is "IPhone 10" or IPhone Ten... Actually, this is the right thing to say if you want to follow Apple's information.

As practice shows, many still call it iPhone X and I think if you speak in this way, people will still understand you and this is perhaps the most important thing.

IPhone X or 10: which is right? Will the tenth version follow the anniversary X version, or is it the same name for the smartphone? The official presentation calls the iPhone of the latest generation "the tenth", but among people (both in Russia and in the United States), both expressions are used in everyday life. "X", "X", "ten", "ten", "ten" and even "Ha!" - the managers of the salons of cellular communication are no longer surprised at anything.

As for the correct spelling, the official name of the model is iPhone X. In this case, X is interpreted as the Roman numeral 10. The company deliberately took this marketing move - the model after the "eight" does not carry any special cardinal innovations, and the "X" in the subconscious of people are also perceived as a "mystery". And it worked: despite the high price, the smartphone began to be sold intensively.

What's next - iPhone 9 or 11?

What will happen after the tenth iPhone? The company has already unveiled the iPhone 9 concept, which is supposedly due out in September. The device will have a triangular shape, the physical buttons will change, in terms of appearance and characteristics it will already be a fundamentally new solution. However, demoing the concept can be a simple joke aimed at confusing journalists and causing another round of buzz.

On the other hand, the release of the 9th version can be regarded by the audience as the release of an older model in comparison with the iPhone X. So it is completely unknown whether the new version will continue the old order.

By the way, there is also another alignment. Model X could take, like the SE, to become a 6-inch phone. And there will be versions X.1, X.2 and so on.

Therefore, if we consider how correctly the iPhone X or 10, then there will be "ten" or "ten", but in everyday life any variants of the name are allowed.

Today will be unusual iPhone X review... How the device shoots, where which button is located, what processor the device has - all this is already known. However, few people talk about real-life experience of use. We correct the situation immediately.

I've been using iPhone X for a month. During all this time, I have found a lot of both pluses and minuses. A smartphone has something to love and something to hate. At times you flap your ears with delight that you are using a ten, and at times you want to ... put it aside and be with the device separately. Yes, the iPhone X is exactly that - incredibly cool and at the same time the most controversial iPhone in history.

Here are my ten for buying an iPhone X

1. Design

Of course, any of the iPhones is markedly different from all other smartphones. The iPhone can be seen from afar, and the X even more so.

Chrome frame, vertical dual camera module, bezel-less screen. As soon as at least one of these elements flashes in someone's hand, everyone understands what kind of apparatus the character owns. Against this background, the flagships on Android look extremely funny - that in the distance, that close, few recognize in the hands of a person or some.

The iPhone X design may or may not like it, but it's definitely recognizable.

2. Of course, the screen

You use your tenth iPhone and you realize that the future is already here. Right here in your hand.

Yes, of course, the display here is not entirely frameless in the absolute sense of the word. However, the top ten clearly stands out from all the other competitors with chins.

Just look how cool and neat the dock looks with basic app icons!

All previous iPhones have always used IPS panels. These are quite pleasant and high-quality displays in terms of color reproduction. However, Apple was able to calibrate them perfectly. This was especially noticeable against the background of devices from with their Super AMOLED screens and "eyeballs" color reproduction. Galaxy screen photography and reality are two fundamentally different things.

The iPhone X was the first to use an OLED matrix. One could be afraid of the same thing as in smartphones from Samsung, but the True Tone algorithm helps out, which softens the picture and adjusts it to the ambient light. As a result, the display respects both the eyes of the users and what is displayed on it. There is no immersion in an unrealistic world of fierce contrast.

3. Body materials

Nice, high quality, nothing to complain about. Tempered glass front and back. The company itself does not admit what kind of panels are installed in their smartphone, but there is unconfirmed information that this is a special series from Corning - Ion-X. The perimeter of the frame is not of any anodized aluminum alloy, but of smoothly polished steel.

In all of this, Apple is a trendsetter. They started producing metal smartphones, everyone rushed to make their products the same. We switched to 7000 series aluminum, the rest did exactly the same.

The situation will be the same with steel. The only difference is that while everyone else is just developing their devices, the owners of the latest iPhone are already using the device with new case materials for the market.

4. Bangs

I don’t know why many people criticize the smartphone so strongly for “bangs”, “humps” or simply “protrusions” from above. First, it doesn't bother you. Not in videos, not in games, not anywhere else. 10 seconds after the video is turned to full screen, you simply immerse yourself in the content and do not notice anything else.

Secondly, the TrueDepth camera has become a distinctive feature of the novelty, the design highlight that sets the device apart from other frameless cameras (see paragraph 1).

Doubt? Look at the rumors regarding the release of some devices from Chinese manufacturers. are already trying to "be like the iPhone X".

In addition, Apple did not offend the owners of dozens of screen sizes - it is really large, with a diagonal of 5.8 inches. Even with a protrusion at the top, a lot of information is placed on the display.

5. Gestures

It is comfortable, functional and elegant.

Another example of when the market is oriented towards Apple.

Gestures have existed before in some Android devices and custom firmwares for them. All sorts of swipes, swipes, and so on were supported, but nowhere was this normally implemented.

In the top 10, Apple ditched the Home button. It was necessary to find a new way to interact with a smartphone. With a bezel-less display, you can't really roam, so we settled on gestures. Moreover, they brought the control to the level at which everything just works and there are no false recognitions.

Following the "apple" company, gestures were introduced, while in beta mode, but this is only the beginning. I think many will follow the path beaten by Apple. We are waiting for the first swallows from the main copying machine of iPhones - Huawei.

6. Better iPhone can only be a new iPhone

It would seem that only inveterate Apple fans think so, who do not see the world around them. But no.

Most of those who have used an iOS device can no longer get used to something else. And that's okay. This is human nature. You get used to one and use it as long as you can. Why leave your comfort zone when everything is fine.

No, I am always in favor of trying something new. For example, to go to a new country, and not to Turkey for the twentieth time, visit a new restaurant, discover a new sport - this is something new. And changing one phone to another is not something to leave your comfort zone for, if opportunities permit. And even more so to argue about this on the Internet.

7. Technology - Face ID

Face unlocking was in smartphones long before the release of the iPhone X - on some devices still running on shaggy Android 4.4.

Of course, cool photos alone wouldn't be enough if the smartphone was otherwise bad. Fortunately, this is not our case. You get a handy gadget with a great built-in camera. This is the plus.

9. Video filming

There is simply nothing to talk about. iPhone X Shoots 4K Videos Best! And it's not even that videos are recorded at 60 frames per second. Overall detail, white balance, perfectly working stabilization (in the iPhone X on both modules) - thanks to all this, a dozen shoots head and shoulders above all other devices.

In addition, Apple was the first to switch to Slow Motion in its products at 120 FPS at 1080p. For exactly one year, none of the manufacturers even bothered to do the same. And when someone did it, Apple went further and hit 240 FPS at 1080p.

Yes, it occurs in nature, which is capable of writing cool Slo-Mo at a frequency of 960 frames / s, but this is the very case when a smartphone has one cool function, but everything else is somehow nondescript and not very interesting.

10. Wireless charging

Yes, the Cupertinians were "slightly" late with the introduction of this contraption. In addition, having implemented wireless charging in their latest generation of gadgets, they did not add anything new, did not improve or reinvent the technology, as they usually know how to do it. Nonetheless, wireless charging is extremely handy.

The smartphone is always charging, and not lying around just like that. Therefore, you should definitely train yourself to put your smartphone in the same place (it takes a day or two). It is already impossible to wean it later. At the exit, we get an always charged device.

You can buy two at once. For example, I have a Belkin and a test Mophie. The first one can be placed in the workplace, the second next to the bed. As a result, the smartphone does not lie around for nothing, but charges at any convenient moment.

Something else

Of course, many of the advantages of the iPhone X are left behind the scenes. However, I have highlighted what is most important to my taste. Something for which you can buy the top ten and use it with pleasure every day.

10 reasons why you should think three times before buying an iPhone X

With the merits sorted out. It was time to look for flaws and, unfortunately, I didn't have to dig deep. They discovered themselves.

1. One SIM card

There are two types of users. The first ones have one SIM card in stock and they just can't figure out why buy a second one at all. The second type is the holders of two or more SIM cards. This category of citizens includes those who like to separate personal and work, personal and very personal (if you know what I mean ...) and constantly selling something on the Internet.

Personally, as a matter of my profession, I have several cards from different operators, besides, from time to time I sell something on Internet sites, and leaving my personal number there means facing not the most pleasant consequences in the form of spam.

However, I don't want to carry two, three or more phones with me. Unfortunately, I do this anyway, since I am engaged in reviews, but if I were a simple user, this nightmare would quickly get me.

Buying two iPhones is too cool. After all, I'm not some sheikh from the Emirates. Therefore, you have to put some Android budget employee on the table for such a pretty iPhone X.

Two iPhones

2.iOS 11

Tragically, iOS 11 is the biggest headache.

In the past, iOS or iPhone OS was Apple's biggest pride. Especially against the background of constantly slowing down Android devices.

Today the systems have changed places and there are enough glitches in the 11th revision of the Apple system. Rare, but all-such crashing applications, periodically non-pressing buttons in a particular window, endlessly non-working AirDrop, and so on.

Moreover, the whole point is that some users never come across anything like this, while the other stumbles on iOS sores all the time. For example, while I and I have not caught almost a single glitch. Meanwhile, crowds of indignant users raged on the Internet, whose system lagged at every turn. In the iPhone X, I was faced with the fact that the software is constantly buggy, and on the web they say that in the next iOS update, everything that could be fixed has already been fixed.

At the end of everything, the screen suddenly started to turn on. On one's own. There is a phone for itself, no one touches it, and then the display lights up. And no, this notification did not come. The display just lights up and doesn't go out anymore.

3. Restrictions are reasonable and not so

I have iPhone X for a month. While I was busy testing other devices, I gave a smartphone to my girlfriend for a week. She entered her Apple ID, downloaded music, applications - in general, she used the device to its fullest.

Later, I took the top ten for myself, set it up (more on this later) and it turned out that I could not download a single song, even the one I bought earlier in Apple Music, in memory of my iPhone.

The girl removed X from the list of her devices linked to the Apple ID, but this did not help. You still need to wait 90 days until the restriction is lifted, and only then will I be able to listen to music on my iPhone 10 as expected.

What if I legally bought this iPhone from another person or received it as a gift? I have a check, a box, I gave money for it. However, my new iPhone is still not mine. It will become so in 90 days. This is incredible, Apple!

4. Notifications are not received

I don't know what's the matter (I tried all the Apple recommendations from their website), but on the iPhone X everything is very sad with notifications. 70% of them simply do not come until you forcefully open the application and it is updated. The fact that all the priorities are set, the program hangs in the memory - all this does not bother the system. No notifications coming!

The most interesting thing is that on the Plus version there were no such problems at all.

It seems that those same saved 2 hours of autonomy were relatively achieved by disabling stable notifications.

5. Excessive security (and complexity)

Again about the software. And again, problems arose during the transition of the iPhone X from the girl to me.

Together we disabled Apple ID, removed the iPhone from her list of devices, returned the device to factory settings, and then it started.

I connected my girlfriend's iPhone X to iTunes and restored it from my backup.

The smartphone has recovered, BUT! The system did not want to recognize my absolutely correct password from my Apple ID. I thought that I was mistaken, but when for the 5th time the smartphone cursed that the "pass" was incorrect, it became no longer funny.

Additionally, it turned out that all my girlfriend's applications remained untouched, but my photos were tightened. But the adventure was just beginning.

An iPhone restored from my backup and previously deleted from the list of devices associated with someone else's Apple ID, did not want to recognize my face in any way, did not accept my PIN-code, and even more so it constantly asked for a password not from my account.

I had to completely reset my alien iPhone X. However, during the initial setup of the new iPhone, he twice asked for the password from the account of my half. How it is? After all, we untied everything, dropped everything!

Ultimately, it's easier to set up a smartphone from scratch than restore it from a backup. There will be much fewer problems. I thought so until I went through this whole procedure.

I reset, entered my data, set up my iPhone, BUT! At one point, Face ID did not work (then, most likely, I myself am to blame, so we will not blame the device). The system prompted me to enter the unlock pin code. I entered it and, it’s incredible, the iPhone didn’t accept it. I tried again - error. It turned out that in the device configured for me, completely reset, which I had been using for several days and everything was in order, the PIN code of my girlfriend was still hanging! How is this even possible ?!

I understand that all this is safety and for our own good, but this is too much. I'm ready to take risks, let me be warned about this three times by a pop-up window, but only if Apple would lower the nuts. So everyone would live a little easier to live.

6. Face ID

On the one hand, Face ID is cool. And it's really convenient to use it in winter, when your hands are in gloves and you don't want to take them off at all in order to bring the bare pad of your finger to Touch ID. I looked at the screen and it unlocked. The focus with notifications looks especially cool. A banner with a notification popped up on the screen, the text is not visible, but as soon as you look at it, the banner unfolds. Convenient and effective!

The frustrating thing about Face ID, however, is that it's slower than Touch ID. In addition, the smartphone is not immediately ready for use, even after successful unlocking, you need to swipe up from the bottom edge.

But it is especially inconvenient when you do not have the opportunity to pick up the device. For example, it is attached to the air conditioner grill in the car. And every time you have to pull your face to get it into the field of view of the TrueDepth camera. It would be much more convenient to reach with your finger, all the more, to do it blindly, without being distracted from the road. The situation is exactly the same when the phone is on the table: either you pick it up, or you get up from a chair and reach out to face your smartphone.

Plus, Face ID won't recognize you if your phone is landscape or upside down. There were no such problems with Touch ID.

7. Absence of Always on Display

The most gorgeous function of AMOLED screens, which is available on some devices on Android (,).

The display always shows some key information: time, date, notification icons. Such pictures consume very little energy (1-5% of the total battery charge), but they allow you not to pick up the phone when you need to, for example, just find out what time it is.

In the iPhone X, it was not implemented, apparently for the sake of power consumption. However, in future versions, we would like to see such a function.

8. Fast charging

First, here are the results of my measurements (29W PSU with USB Type-C connection from MacBook):

  • 30 minutes - 49% charge
  • 1 hour - 80%
  • 1.5 hours - 94%
  • 2 hours 10 minutes - 100%

So fast charging really works. However, it still cannot compare with the indicators that some flagships on Android (,) offer. And this despite the fact that the battery capacity of the iPhone X is 2,716 mAh, while, for example, a 3,300 mAh battery (full charge in 1 hour 28 minutes).

However, I put fast charging on the disadvantages for a different reason.

The set for the iPhone X, which costs either 80 or 92 thousand rubles, depending on the memory, does not come with a compatible charger. It needs to be purchased separately and the best option for a dozen is a 29-watt MacBook power supply. It costs 3,590 rubles separately.

Unfortunately, this is not enough to take advantage of fast charging. You also need to buy a proprietary Lightning power cable<->USB Type-C, which will cost another 1,990 rubles.

With all its advantages and convenience, fast charging should be available immediately, without overpayments and additional investments.

Horses on the crossing, of course, do not change, but in the next generation of the iPhone, we will definitely expect a quick charge in the kit.

9. Yellowness in the photo

iPhone X takes amazing pictures. Moreover, he does it in almost any lighting conditions.

However, in most cases, the photo gives off a characteristic yellowness. Yes, perhaps this was done on purpose to ensure that the photos from the iPhone were easily recognizable. However, in my opinion, the closer to natural color rendition, the better.

10. Price

What can you say here? The iPhone is expensive.

Yes, there are two non-intersecting worlds. In the first case, official price tags reign (79,990 rubles for the version with 64 GB and 91,990 rubles for the older model with 256 GB). In the second world, grayness reigns and the cost is slightly lower. The issue of savings, including on guarantees, is a separate topic for discussion. However, whatever one may say, the iPhone is prohibitively expensive for most users. And this is its main drawback.

conclusions

I'll start with where I started. The iPhone X, for all its pros and cons, is a very controversial smartphone. On the other hand, has it ever happened at least once in history that the next new iPhone was perceived unambiguously positively or completely and completely negatively?

I have been following the iPhone since the very first generation and believe me, the new generation of Apple smartphones has always garnered both sharp criticism and extremely positive reviews from happy owners. The iPhone X is no exception to this rule. And perhaps this is good.

22. Face ID can really be fooled

Apple promises that a random person will be able to unlock your iPhone X with a probability of 1 in a million, but stipulates that the probability of a mistake is higher for relatives and children. We tested Face ID with two twins. Their parents are not sure if their daughters are identical twins. The girls are very similar, but it is not so difficult to distinguish them. We scanned the face of one of the sisters with a smartphone and handed it over to the second - the device unlocked. The reverse experiment also gave a positive result.

About cameras

34. The main camera is one of the best

DXOMark - one of the most reputable camera sites of any kind - ranked the iPhone X second behind the Google Pixel 2 with 97 points out of 100. And its camera is even better than the iPhone 8 Plus: also 12 megapixels, also optical and digital stabilization, also 2x optical and 10x digital zoom, also 4K video recording at 60 frames per second, but the "Ten" has an f / 2.4 aperture versus f / 2.8 of the "Eight".

Apple released the iPhone X in early November, but insiders and designers are already speculating on what the company's flagship, which will debut in 2018, will look like. Pavel Gorodnitsky has collected all the rumors about new smartphones from Cupertino.

Different sizes

The first reaction to the iPhone X was, "Where is the iPhone X Plus?"

For three years, Apple has taught that an enlarged version of it comes out along with the main gadget, but the frameless device came out in a single modification. Most likely, this is due to the fact that the American corporation simply did not have enough time to develop the phablet - it was necessary to bring the 5.8-inch "top ten" to the market as quickly as possible, and not think about the fans of giant screens.

Now the time has appeared, there is no time trouble, so it is quite possible to wait for a large iPhone from Apple without frames around the screen.

Apparently, the diagonal of the screen will be 6.4 inches, which means that you need to count on QHD-resolution. The most daring analysts claim that Tim Cook may disperse and introduce the 6.7-inch iPhone Plus, but so far it looks like nonsense. Such a diagonal turns even a bezel-less flagship into a kind of tablet, and Apple really doesn't like it when ergonomics suffer.

Much more interesting to speculate about the mini-flagship. There are three facts to consider here. First, Apple has long been demanding a continuation of the super-demanded iPhone SE. Secondly, many fans of the company dream of the return of the compact glass iPhone (the memory of the iPhone 4S is still alive). Thirdly, there are already rumors that Samsung is going to present not only the classic Galaxy S9, but also a 5-inch mini-version.

All this leads to the idea that Apple can expand the lineup and bring to the market three frameless frames: small, standard and large. Then Android competitors will have a very hard time.

Incomprehensible name

In 2017, Apple went all out. Apparently, Tim Cook was so frightened by the hype around the Galaxy S8 that he dumped all the marketing trump cards on the table. The CEO of Apple not only mercilessly destroyed the frigid letter S (instead of the iPhone 8, the iPhone 7s was expected), but also used the Roman "ten" to:

a) emphasize the uniqueness of this iPhone;

b) celebrate a decade since the first Apple smartphone was released.

The short-term effect turned out to be decent, but Tim brazenly turned the whole philosophy of Apple's naming. In 2018, he will have to gracefully get out of this situation, although there seems to be no really elegant way to solve the problem. iPhone 9 - a step back. iPhone XI is bulky. iPhone 8s is just a clinic.

Usually, at an impasse, Apple simply introduces a new designation. It can be anything: iPhone X (2018), iPhone Air, iPhone Pro, iPhone Edition and stuff like that. There is nothing wrong with that - sooner or later Cook would have come to abandon the usual ordinal numbering anyway.

Next generation Face ID

Apple has been praising its facial recognition system with much and aggressive praise, but Face ID suffers from critical flaws:

1. iPhone X reads the face very poorly if the owner lies on its side (or even lies).

2. The flagship detects a face disgustingly even at a slight angle - regular refusals are incredibly enraging.

3. "Ten" is confused not only in twins, but also in relatives - for example, the iPhone X of a younger brother may well be unlocked by an older brother.

4. Face ID is not at all suitable for people with squint. For them, on average, every third attempt to unlock the iPhone ends in failure.

5. People with burns and other facial lesions shouldn't even try to set up Face ID - it won't work anyway.

At one time, Apple significantly improved Touch ID: the scanner not only learned to respond to a wet finger, but in general it became much faster and more accurate.

It will be great if Apple does a similar trick with Face ID, because now this system amazes only those who are ready to constantly bring their iPhone 30-35 centimeters to their eyes, observe the right angle and be glad that the device has finally recognized the face.

Seven more predictions that will surely come true

1. At the launch, Tim Cook will announce that the 2018 iPhone is much more powerful than the one unveiled in September 2017. It's unrealistic to miss: Cupertino is focused on equipping the iPhone with the most efficient chipset.

2. The camera will get better anyway. Apple, unlike Samsung, will not allow itself to ship the same module for two years in a row.

6. The 64GB version will die. In its place will come a 128 GB modification. There's still a chance Apple is announcing a half-terabyte iPhone X. This is the ideal volume to spin the 6.4-inch bezel-less phablet, positioning it as an ultra-versatile device.

7. The most important point of the vish-list is a screen with a refresh rate of 120 GHz. On smartphones, this has not yet been properly implemented, but in vain. When you use the new iPad Pro (it has such a luxurious display), it seems that you are literally touching the content with your hands.

This effect must be transferred to the most expensive iPhone - then everything will turn out absolutely perfect.
