Slightly overestimated, as for the Moto X Play model, the price will not allow you to purchase a smartphone at a low level of income, so this model will be optimal for business, but it can be a great gift to your beloved person. The choice of the target use of this model is truly unreasonable, so it all depends on you, desire and affordable budget.
Moto X4 revives the Moto X line, but this is not the Moto X, which we once knew. Now he has become a mid-level telephone and if it is completely honest, the only thing that Moto X4 connects with Moto X from the past is a name. Moto X4 design
Unlike the previous phones of the Moto X line, which had the possibilities of customization with the help of the choice of the backbone and the color of the parts, you will not get anything like that with Moto X4. Instead, Moto X4 design almost fully complies with the design of the Moto Z series devices, with the exception of Moto modules. Moto X4 is predominantly made of glass, like most modern phones, with glass panels from Corning® Gorilla® Glass front and rear and a smooth metal frame from anodized aluminum surrounding the device around the perimeter. The angles are beautifully rounded, and the back side is slightly narrowed around the edges, which allows the phone comfortably lying in hand.
Many glass phones look quite boring, but Motorola used a fairly interesting trick to make the device more attractive. If you look at the rear panel Moto X4 under a magnifying glass, microscopic curved arcs are noticeable from the back side of the glass panel - it creates a 3D surface effect of a much more complex shape than in fact, causing the refraction of light. Therefore, if you consider Moto X4 on bright light, then the glare will bend on its surface. Of course, it is best noticeable on the model in a silver-blue color, but also a black version - it looks impressive. A similar effect is used in the design of the chamber module, which due to radial glare resembles the dial of expensive hours.
The phone is not so big, so it is much easier to use in one hand compared to most other phones in the market. Of course, a glass back panel means that fingerprints will remain on it, so if you care that your device looks clean, I would recommend carrying a cleaning napkin.
Otherwise, in the design of Moto X4 there is nothing extravagant because it looks pretty standard in other aspects. Edging along the edges of the medium-sized display, and the camera from the back acts as on the other Moto devices, except that it is just a design element that has no goal as on the Moto Z rule.
Display Moto X4.
The Moto X4 screen does not extend from the edge to the edge and does not have curved faces or rounded corners. This is an ordinary smartphone without frills. This is an LCD display, the diagonal of which is 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels or Full HD and a density of 424 PPI. This is not the display that will affect your imagination, but it is great for daily use, and I did not have serious complaints on the screen during my testing.
The colors are pretty pleasant for the LCD display, the viewing angles are good, and visibility was not a problem even with bright sunlight. However, the levels of black are not as good as on amoled displays. This should be expected, but at Moto X4 there were no common problems with LCD displays, such as uneven lighting around the edges of the screen.
Productivity and hardware Moto X4
Moto X4 falls into the middle class category, and therefore is equipped with the Snapdragon 630 and 3 GB processor or 4 GB of RAM to start applications and multitasking. We had a version with 4 GB from Europe. On paper it may not be the most powerful phone, but, as well as the display, this is more than enough. Moto X4 perfectly showed himself in everyday use without delays or lag.
The applications were quickly launched, the multitasking was excellent, and demanding of the chart of the game, such as Need for Speed: No Limits or Marvel's Contest of Champions, worked quickly and smoothly.
As for the hardware, Moto X4 offers standard features for Android database. There are versions with 32 GB and 64 GB of integrated memory and the microSD card slot provides up to 2 TB of additional space. For review, we used the European version with 64 GB and the support of two SIM cards, but as the other Motorola phones - Moto X4 received a combo slot, which means that the second SIM card you can only refuse a memory card. Fingerprint scanner is typical of the Motorola site at the bottom of the screen and it works with sufficient reliability and speed. I also like that you can use it to immerse the phone into sleep or instead of navigation buttons, as well as on the other moto phones with a fingerprint scanner.
Unlike the Moto Z, Moto X4 series smartphones, received a headphone jack located on the bottom of the phone, so to use your favorite headphones the adapter will not need. Moto X4 became the first Motorola phone certified by water protection and dust IP 68, which means that the device may be at a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. Considering that most of the flagships in 2017 were protected from water and dust, this is a fantastic function for the phone at this price.
Moto X4 received a pretty good battery for 3000 mAh, and, although the time of its autonomous work is not phenomenal, this is enough for everyday use during the day. Just do not expect that the active screen time will be incredibly high, since I never managed to get more than four hours, and these numbers most likely will be lower if you play heavy videos or watch video.
Moto X4 uses the new Wireless Sound System software developed by the French start-up, which allows you to play music simultaneously on four devices with Bluetooth support. The software is built into the Moto X4 operating system, and means that the phone can broadcast music to any new or old Bluetooth device if it supports A2DP music profile or its equivalent.
Moto x4 camera
Double Basic Camera is the main feature of this year's smartphones and at Moto X4, Motorola offers this double camera in a more affordable device. But, unlike Moto Z2 Force, Moto X4 has an additional wide-angle module, while Moto Z2 Force got a monochrome sensor.
The main module - received a 12 megapixel sensor and a lens with a diaphragm F / 2.0, and an additional - 8 megapixel with a wide-angle lens with an angle of capturing 120 degrees and a diaphragm F / 2.2 with autofocus with a phase definition. Unfortunately, no one of the lenses have no optical image stabilization. An additional module having a low resolution is also quite unsuccessful, since the difference as is easily noticeable, but this wide-angle lens provides more interesting landscape pictures and makes it easy to shoot large groups of people.
The Moto X4 wide-angle lens has pretty strong distortion on the edges of the frame, which makes pictures of the photographs who have taken pictures with Gopro cameras, which personally seems to me quite interesting.
Moto X4 also uses an additional chamber to create a background blur effect in portrait mode, as on other competing smartphones, and I like that Motorola software allows you to use interesting effects, such as cutting an object in the foreground and replacing the background or replace the background on black White image.
However, the effect of depth works not so effectively as on many other smartphones. On Moto X4, the results look not very convincing. As for the quality of the pictures, with good lighting you can achieve excellent results with precise color reproduction. But without optical stabilization, photographs taken with weak lighting, do not have high definition, and white balance can be distorted.
However, when shooting the main lens, snapshots are quite decent, which cannot be said about a wide-angle lens. As expected, with weak lighting, the wide-angle lens is much worse than the main and photograph usually turn out more noisy. This is due to the fact that the smaller resolution of the chamber and the larger diaphragm.
On the front panel there is a 16-megapixel camera with a diaphragm F / 2.0 and a pixel size of 1.0 μm, which allows you to shoot excellent selfie while shooting with a low level of illumination, thanks to the adaptive Low Light mode developed specifically for this.
As the main and front cameras can shoot video with a resolution of 4K, at a speed of 30 frames per second or 1080p video, at a speed of 60 frames per second.
Moto X4 software
Motorola has always offered simple and clean software with a small number of current supplements. Moto X4 runs on the basis of Android 7.1 Nougat from the box, we hope that the update to Android 8.0 Oreo is not to make yourself wait. Like other Moto, X4 series phones also support Moto, Moto display and Moto voice.

In general, in our opinion, Motorola turned out to be an excellent sub-flagship - a simple, compact, reliable and affordable and minimized by additional colors. Moto X4 perfectly copes with any tasks, and you will not find a lot of smartphones at this price, which will provide you with the ability to work with two cameras, protection against water IP68 class, excellent specifications and quick software updates. It can be a big step away from the previous Moto X phones, but Moto X4 is definitely still worthy of your attention.
