Articles and Lifehacks

The samsung s5830 galaxy ace smartphone, which will be reviewed today, is another bestseller of the company. It is qualitatively different from its predecessors. Due to the fact that there are too many "top" smartphones, many manufacturers are striving to expand the line of mobile devices in the middle segment. The Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace is the direct successor of the commercially successful Samsung i5700 Galaxy Spica, which is also known for its reasonable price/functionality ratio.

Overview of design, controls and packaging Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace

The Galaxy Ace smartphone has a very attractive design, which is a bit like the appearance. However, the unique style of Samsung devices running on the Android platform remains easily recognizable. There are 2 options for the back cover - white and black. There are no complaints about the build quality.

The device is a classic monoblock design. The back cover has a corrugated surface, and the edge around the perimeter is chrome-plated. Its body is made of plastic - both matte and glossy. Thanks to the enlarged display, it is extremely convenient to work. The screen itself supports multi-touch and responds well to finger touch. The weight of the mobile device is small, and the design as a whole is not only ergonomic, but also organic.

The Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace has minimal hardware controls. More often than others, 2 touch buttons located under the display will be used. Between them is the mechanical Home key. On the left of the sidebar is the volume control button, and on the right is the screen lock (off) button. At the top end there is a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, as well as a micro-USB port. On the front side are the speaker and the proximity sensor.

The package includes a battery, charger, USB cable and a 2 GB micro-SD memory card.

Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace Specifications Overview

Let's continue to study the samsung s5830 galaxy ace smartphone, the review of which will now touch on the hardware "stuffing". The device supports HSDPA, GSM and GPRS/EDGE communication standards, as well as wireless services such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It runs on Android 2.2.1 operating system.

The Qualcomm MSM7227 processor has a frequency of 800 MHz. The amount of RAM smartphone is 278 MB, and built-in memory - 158 MB. There is a slot for micro-SD memory cards up to 32 GB. There is a built-in camera of 5 megapixels, with flash and the ability to record video. The physical dimensions of the device are 112.4 × 59.9 × 11.5 millimeters, and the weight is 113 grams. Supported Internet browser is Chrome Mobile.

Battery Galaxy Ace lithium-ion (Li-Ion), with a capacity of 1350 mAh. This means that the device can work up to 11 hours of talk time. For comparison: the battery of a smartphone can withstand only 7 hours in a similar mode.

The touch capacitive display of the device is made using TFT technology, has a resolution of 320 × 480 pixels and a diagonal of 3.5 inches. It should be noted that for models of this class, this is considered a kind of record. The screen is covered with Gorilla Glass, which is scratch resistant. At the same time, the display has good viewing angles, and in bright sunlight it is able to display text quite readably.

    1. The workmanship is good. With a careful attitude, no scratches appeared. The buttons do not play. 2. Appearance and price. 3. Good processor. 4. Battery keeps 75 hours. Because 3G and WiFi turn on only when necessary. 5. You can save money on the navigator in the car. But you need, of course, auto-charging, because. ZHPS eats the battery like a plague.

    Great build! Be sure to hold it in your hands before buying! Thoughtful design, the flash drive can be changed without removing the cover. The side buttons are tight and not pronounced. The screen is clear, the polymer coating, but the transparency is very high. Touchwiz 3, coupled with Android 2.2, is a very advanced and thoughtful shell. Very fast inclusion of wifi and gps, very pleased, in general, the performance is on top. High-quality external speaker and headphone output (of course, in the segment of android communicators). I have not tested the camera seriously, but it works quickly, the flash is very good, the focus clearly works. There is no separate photo button.

    good camera, android is not bad, the screen was on fire, adequate gps

    2 years ago 0

    the processor is fast, the screen is quite enough, not as big as a note fits into your pocket

    2 years ago 0

    Terrible battery, little RAM.

    2 years ago 0

    The disadvantages include, of course, the battery charge, if you often use applications, it only lasts for a day. If it's purely for calls, and so somewhere something on the case, it will last three days. The camera was also disappointing, I expected a great color rendition and the quality of the shooting leaves much to be desired. Previously, there was a Samsung L700 with 3.2 megapixels, it shot exactly the same, no worse ...

    2 years ago 0

    quickly discharges (the problem of all androids), poor equipment: a memory card of only 2 GB, no headset, disk with software (you have to download it yourself), no Flash, no separate key on the end to start the camera, you can’t switch tracks in the locked state either, about I can’t say gorilla glass - just in case, I stuck a film, because. many people say that the screen is still scratched.

    When drunk, it's hard to type messages. You have to make a squint.

    2 years ago 0

    Little memory, eats a lot of battery power, weak Wi-Fi, disgusting sound in the headphones. no more flaws.

    2 years ago 0

    terrible quality, high price for nothing, in fact

    2 years ago 0

    The most important thing is the phone freezing when waking up from sleep with wifi turned on (it seems to have been fixed in 2.3.5). The processor is overclocked, the memory is not enough.

    2 years ago 0

    1. Phone memory. And this is a significant minus. It is very small. The bare minimum of necessary applications will fit even for unpretentious users. Given that there is not even a smooth increase in volume, therefore, for this trifle you need to install an application. And not all applications can be transferred to a memory card. Constant hemorrhoids with saving phone memory space.
    2. WiFi. Podglyuchivaet occasionally when you turn it on, that is, it simply refuses to turn on WiFi. It is treated by rebooting the phone. And yes, it crashes often.

    Built-in music the player is a rare crap, and his equalizer is even more crap than he is. If you listen to music, then from paid poweramps, from free mortplayer for example. Of the relative disadvantages: a plastic case, but the plastic and coatings are very high quality. Of course, the kit comes with a bunch of all sorts of unnecessary programs that cannot be removed. There is not enough memory for prog, try to use programs that are transferred to a memory card. Slightly overpriced and currently exclusive to Euroset.

    I have not found any major drawbacks yet, only disappointed that the battery is quickly discharged

Samsung Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830) was officially presented by Samsung only today (at 2 am Kyiv time). It is designed to strengthen the position of the manufacturer in the middle price segment, where today Samsung has a slight "sagging". I had the opportunity for a week to walk around with a pre-sale sample of this, of course, an interesting device. He has all the ingredients for success, but can he become as popular as the legendary Galaxy Spica model?

Excursion into history

At one time, the Android-smartphone Samsung Galaxy Spica (GT-i5700) produced the effect of an exploding bomb on our market and became the most popular device running the Android operating system. The "blame" for this was an excellent combination of price and characteristics, and neither some technical problems nor an uncertain situation with software updates could affect the popularity of the phone. The Galaxy Spica was quickly discontinued, both because of the technical problems mentioned above, and because the device turned out to be too successful and potentially cannibalized the sales of more expensive Samsung phones, in particular, the then-upcoming bada- flagship Wave (GT-S8500). The logical continuation of the super-popular "Spokes" was a device called Galaxy 580 (GT-i5800), which, however, did not become popular, since its characteristics were partially degraded compared to its predecessor. In particular, users were indignant about the reduced screen resolution (240x400 versus 320x480). Competitors, meanwhile, did not doze off and presented very interesting Android smartphones in the same (and even lower) price category - within just six months we saw Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini and Mini Pro, HTC Wildfire, Garmin-ASUS A10, Gigabyte GSmart G1305, LG Optimus (GT540) and finally Optimus One (P500) which is currently the most balanced and attractive offering on the market. A smartphone called Galaxy Ace, which is designed to return the company's leadership in the middle price segment, has become a response to competitors' encroachments. The name - Ace - was certainly not chosen by chance, it is such a trump card that the company pulled out of its sleeve at a decisive moment. As with the Galaxy Spica, the balance between price and specs is key, but the company has been careful to build the phone carefully enough not to hurt sales of older models.

Specifications

With the Galaxy Ace, the company ditched its own S3C6410 processor and opted for the Qualcomm MSM7227 platform, which is a complete solution for budget smartphones. The Qualcomm MSM7227 combines an ARMv6 processor core running at 800 MHz with an Adreno 200 GPU, which has the most comprehensive support for Android gaming to date. The full specifications of the smartphone are as follows:

  • Ranges: GPRS/GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS/HSPA 900/2100.
  • Form factor: keyboardless monoblock.
  • Operating system: Google Android 2.2 (Froyo) with TouchWiz 3.0 interface.
  • Display: TFT, 320x480 pixels, 16 million colors, touchscreen (capacitive matrix).
  • Camera: 5 MP, autofocus, LED backlight, geotagging, video recording (320x240).
  • CPU: Qualcomm MSM7227, 800 MHz clock; integrated video accelerator Adreno 200.
  • RAM: 384 MB.
  • Flash memory: 158 MB + microSDHC cards (up to 32 GB).
  • Multimedia features: MP3 player, FM receiver, YouTube integration, Find Music service (similar to Track ID in Sony Ericsson phones).
  • Wireless technologies: Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.
  • Interface connectors: microUSB, 3.5 mm headphone output.
  • GPS: yes, support A-GPS, support Google Maps.
  • Dimensions and weight: 112x60x11 mm, 115 grams.

Appearance and design features

Personally, I categorically dislike the direction in which the design idea of Samsung is developing: the phones of this respected manufacturer with each new iteration are becoming more and more similar to the iPhone. And don't tell me that the touch devices are all the same, it's not true: the same Spoke had its own and quite recognizable appearance, while Ace looks like a Chinese fake for the iPhone 3GS.

At the same time, the case materials are quite good: the front panel is covered with solid glass, and the battery cover is made of decent-looking glossy plastic. The only element of the case that inspires concern for the safety of its appearance is the plastic edging painted with silver.

It is worth noting that recently Samsung has begun to remove a separate camera button from its phones: it was absent in the Galaxy S, it is not in the Galaxy Ace either. In my opinion, this is inexcusable, because it makes taking pictures with the phone as inconvenient as possible.

Screen

Galaxy Ace uses a 3.5-inch TFT-screen with a capacitive touch surface with a resolution of 320x480 pixels. The screen is bright and contrasting, viewing angles can be called satisfactory, but nothing more. In my opinion, in terms of screen quality, the Galaxy Ace is somewhat inferior to the same Optimus One. Apparently, there is an oleophobic coating, since the screen is reluctant to slam and then it is easily rubbed off.

There is no light sensor and, accordingly, automatic brightness control.

autonomy

The smartphone is equipped with a 1350 mAh battery. Autonomy is typical for most Android smartphones, that is, with heavy use and a large amount of mobile Internet traffic, it can work for a maximum of one and a half to two days. It takes about 2.5 hours to fully charge the battery from the mains charger, while the phone charges slightly more slowly from USB.

Performance

Initially, I had information that the Galaxy Ace would be based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7230 chipset (800 MHz Scorpion processor core and Adreno 205 GPU). Unfortunately, this information has not been confirmed, the smartphone uses the “budget” Qualcomm MSM7227 solution with Adreno 200 graphics, but the processor core is overclocked to 800 MHz. In HTC Gratia and Samsung Galaxy Mini smartphones, the same processor is used at its “native” frequency of 600 MHz.

Despite the budget chipset, the phone performed well in the Quadrant and Neocore benchmarks. Even 9 months ago, such performance was available only to buyers of top-end Android smartphones, and today it is already the lot of mid-range solutions.

Firmware Features

The phone runs on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system, on top of which the proprietary TouchWiz 3.0 shell is “stretched”. In general, the interface is not much different from other Samsung Android smartphones, such as the Galaxy S.

The Galaxy Ace has finally almost fixed the long-standing trouble of Samsung smartphones, namely, incomplete localization. In particular, the Cyrillic alphabet appeared in the quick navigation bar for contacts, which allows you to quickly search for contacts with names in Russian or Ukrainian. True, Cyrillic input is still not provided in the Phone application, so if you need a T9 search for contacts, you will have to install the Dialer One application (luckily it is free).

You can use both the standard Samsung keyboard and Swype to enter text. In the Samsung keyboard, layouts are now switched as follows: you need to press the space bar and swipe right or left. Swype also has innovations, the main of which is support for the Ukrainian language.

The Galaxy Ace, like other Samsung Android smartphones, comes pre-installed with the ThinkFree Office office suite.

The smartphone has a very good (convenient) MP3 player and FM-receiver, which has good reception quality. Of course, there are standard Android 2.2 options for connecting a mobile phone as a modem and using it as a Wi-Fi access point for distributing mobile Internet.

Camera

The Galaxy Ace uses the already familiar 5-megapixel camera module with autofocus and LED backlight. The quality of photos during the day on the street is very good, at night and indoors it naturally falls, but overall the camera is pleasant.

But Samsung frankly squeezed the video recording: the maximum resolution of the videos is 320x240, the movement in them is frankly twitchy, as if the frame rate does not exceed 15 fps (although QuickTime shows 25 fps in the properties of the video file). Also, note that audio recording starts about a second after video recording starts.

In the dry matter

No wonder Samsung called this smartphone "Ace", oh no wonder. Despite the controversial design and not the highest quality screen, Galaxy Ace is one of the most interesting offers in the price category up to 3000 hryvnia. It even surpasses even our current favourite, the LG Optimus One, in terms of features, especially considering the excellent 5-megapixel camera and high performance for this price segment. On the whole, I wholeheartedly recommend this device for purchase (although, of course, I would like to get acquainted with the “sales” sample). 6 reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy Ace:

  • high (by the standards of this category of smartphones) performance;
  • very good combination of features and price;
  • quality camera;
  • a good set of pre-installed programs - you can start using the phone immediately after purchase;
  • Swype keyboard with support for Russian and Ukrainian languages.

3 reasons not to buy Samsung Galaxy Ace:

  • secondary design;
  • no camera button
  • poor implementation of video recording.
